I had an ultra account at 123ehost for several years and was relatively happy. The site went down every now and then, but nothing major. Then, in June 2010, without warning, they started shutting my site down every day. Visitors would get a message saying "bandwidth limit exceeded". The ultra account has no bandwidth limit - or at least it is advertised as such.
This was my conversation with 123ehost:
"
123eHost: It seems you've reached your bandwidth limit again
me: i have no bandwidth limit. i have the ultra account
123eHost: As long as it doesn't affect the server and the other customers.
me: and how is a customer supposed to know they are slowing down?
123eHost: After a while it becomes apparent, like it did in your case
"
So in other words...if you become vaguely successful, 123ehost will shut you down. Its false advertising on their part that that ultra account has no limit, it clearly does but there is no way of knowing what it is. How can you know if you're "slowing their customers down"? They're essentially penalizing you for their bad server design.
I got apology and it happened 3 times in 4 days, so I moved my website to Laughingsquid.com
I don't recommend 123ehost if you plan your web business becoming successful.

With over six years of experience, I can wholeheartedly recommend 123ehost. Their service has been entirely reliable, response to requests for help is almost immediate and courteous. We once were hacked and they helped right away with a fix. |
