I wasnt going to write anything, but just found out 5 minutes ago they tried to charge my credit card again after knowing my account has been canceled for 7 months. so here goes...
I was with Acehost a little over 5 years. In the beginning, they were great, then they kept removing features (and not saying anything about it). they kept disabling mods so all my ecommerce sites wouldnt work without notice as well. (nothing like the client calling to inform you that their site is broken and you not having a clue about it)
first time - they turned my sites off (all 150 of them) around 1 a.m. because they said I had illegal mp3's on ONE of the websites. I had no clue my sites were down until my phone blew up the next day. the 'illegal' material turned out to be a voice over - produced by ME - converted into an mp3. No clue why they did it unless someone was just in a pissy mood that night.
sites got shut down about 4 more times in the middle of the night without warning or notification for various rediculous reasons.. none made any sense. Clients were furious - lost a few becasue of this, so had to move on.
Enough was enough, I exported all sites to a new host and canceled my account. Luckily I canceled the credit card affiliated with that account because here it is 7 months later and they keep trying to bill me. THEY KNOW I CANCELED. I spoke to customer service, spoke to the 'supposed' BOSS and they even emailed asking if they could delete my files to make room on their server and STILL THEY KEEP TRYING TO CHARGE MY CREDIT CARD.
I've used Ace-Host for more than FIVE years now. As you can see, I don't recommend them, which makes you wonder why I used them for 5 years. Well, I was too lazy to change but I finally have now - thank god for that.
Over the 5 years they deleted my site 2 times (COMPLETELY DELETED, NO BACKUP), and total downtime of at least 1 month. However, the downtime isn't as bad as it seems. My site would work with no problems what-so-ever for a full year, however, when my site did go down, it went down for a very long time. One time my site was down for two weeks, finally they emailed me back and said they accidently deleted it.
My main problem is their pricing. It's expensive for what you're getting. Furthermore, their website is horrible. It's incredibly difficult to find their hosting packages.
Please, just don't bother with them. They aren't as bad as some hosts, but they're pretty bad.
Ace-Host definitely had a shaky past when they were first in business. There is no doubting that just by reading older reviews. However, In the past few years they have really redeemed themselves as one of the top Web Host's in the world in my opinion. If you take a look most of Ace Host's reviews are bad but also notice 99% of them are all 3 to 5 years ago. I have a theory that when people are happy and satisfied, their often quite because their not forced to waste time by writing hosting reviews. People normally only do this when their angry most of the time.
The reason why I think they have done a turn around in the past few years to be considered one of the best hosts ever? Look at the recent facts! Ask any of their active clients what their average response time is to get a response from Technical Support. I bet you'll get answers like "5 minutes, 10 minutes" from every single person you ask. Don't believe me, go ahead and submit a Pre-Sales ticket today at 3AM and time their response. I bet you it will be less then 15 minutes. Let's look at their uptime for shared hosting as a network. For all their shared web hosting servers, they have official SiteUpTime.com letter heads stating that they have 99% or higher uptime for all their shared servers. Visit their website and see for yourself.
This is a Web Hosting company that should be putting real fear into other web hosts to straighten up and start providing quality service. Dirt cheap web hosting that is always done or unstable is not flying anymore now a days. People know better, and people are smarter now. Any webmaster that has half a brain knows that a Uptime guarantee is MEANINGLESS! Why? If your website goes down a week, guess what's behind the magic door BOB? 1/4 of your monthly price in the form of a credit most of the time. If you're paying $20 a month for hosting, you got a whooping $5 credit for 1 weeks worth of downtime. Is a $5 credit to your billing really worth 1 weeks down time? Losing all your traffic trades? Looking like an idiot when your friends/clients see your website face down? NO, it's not worth it! People don't need a web host with a uptime promise anymore, they need a web host who has proven themselves worthy of real uptime, and 15 minute or less response time on Technical Support.
If you want to read more about this Web Host, I have written a full detailed review on my entire experience of being there for almost 4 years running multiple web sites and domains. If anyone is interested in reading it, I invite you to visit: http://www.computerquestionhelp.com/ace-host.html
I really can't understand the negative reviews for this excellent webhost. I have been with them for about 4 years and reluctantly I had to give up this webhost not because they were terrible but because I am not fully utilising their many features and I wanted to save some money. I am only a casual blogger and believe me it was a hard decision to make. So far my website has been down 3 times in the 4 years of service. Granted 1 time did ended up with deletion of my entire inventory but I was ok with it. The other 2 times were more or less 30 min downtime. The rest you can consider 100% uptime. So statistically it is 99.95% uptime as promised by them. What I love about my webhost is the affordable price that comes with unlimited subdomains, mysql databases and a very generous bandwidth that for someone such as I is more than enough. I have never had problems accessing the FTP server and I definitely had no problems with the customer support.
I am not sure about the phone in support but you open a support ticket and however dumb your questions may be, they're always politely answered in detailed explanation within max 20 minutes. Sometimes even in 10 minutes which impressed me since in my country response time is usually 2 weeks.
For the price, I am very very impressed with its reliability, quality and most of all the support that I have received. I don't want to give up the webhost at all but because of economic downturn I better save the money which isn't much to begin with but a start.
Give this webhost a chance. And if anything use the support tickets.
Having tried several hosting companies prior to Ace I know just how bad after sales service/support can be. Ace-Host cannot be faulted for their customer service, in my experience.
On the few occasions when I\'ve needed their help they have responded within minutes and following a quick volley of exchanges resolved the issue within the hour.
Pricing is fair. Although I\'m a firm believer in that one gets what one pays for - by the same token I like to get what I\'m paying for. And both are valid in this case.
On the reliability side; they had a server failure, quite some time ago (not total, but enough to slow my sites down considerably). But, a new server was installed and data transfered with hours. Otherwise there uptime is great.
I have been an Ace-Host customer for several years now, and this latest incident is the last straw. I run two web sites, both of which have been unaccessable all day. I have tried to contact the "support" staff all afternoon, but have not been able to. The so-called live chat is never live. I am always sent to a ticket submission page. This has been the case every time I have needed to contact support. When is their live chat actually live? I would venture a guess that it is NEVER live! I have to admit, when they are up, they're pretty good. I have noticed, however, that their servers do lag quite often. Their FTP is unreliable at best, and downright impossible at worst. I lost a lot of my files trying to upload one of my sites. In my opinion, Ace-Host should be used for nothing more than a host for personal pages, and then only if you don't plan on hosting any large files because you'll never get them uploaded. Then, if you do manage to get them uploaded, your page may or may not actually load. I'm one thoroughly disappointed customer, and as soon as I am able, I will be transferring my accounts elsewhere!
I have had a very terrible experience with this company. After signing up with them, I was unhappy with their services so I signed up with a different company and submitted an email to cancel my service. Any other company would have cancelled the service after receiving an email to cancel from their client or replied to me to let me know that I need to log on their website and submit a specific form. Two years later, I receive an invoice and so I go investigating and realized that the account was not cancelled. I tried logging onto the website account pages and find a difficult to find form that I submitted to cancel the account, but apparently I was cancelling for hosting for the next renewel term two years from now because I was still charged on my credit card. I didn't realize it though because the date was not clear on the cancellation form. They refused to refund the entire money and so I went through american express, but they sided with the company. so, now I am paying for hosting for two years even though they cancelled the account when I submitted a claim through american express. The company should not be allowed to keep my money. This is fraud and I will be reporting them to the better business bureau. They do not know what the term customer service means. Please do not get stuck with these people. You will regret it!!! THe automatic renewel thing is a scam. Two years from now when your term ends you will forget how to cancel and they love that because that's how they make money. It is a terrible business model.
I have Been with ace host for over 4 years. They have amazing customer service and i have had 100% uptime.
anytime i needed any help with anything they were there in minutes to assist me.
Trust me this is probably one of the best hosting companies out there. I have used over 6 hosting companies and they are nothing compaired to ace host.
Horrible service. My biggest mistake was purchasing the 3 year deal with them. Their host speed is horrible, always resulting on not being able to display my website, or taking forever to load (this also happens to their website).
And to make matters worse, they have really bad costumer service. Don't bother contacting them, because there's never anything wrong in their end, it's always the costumers fault.
Acenet's offer of lots of disc space and huge bandwidth look too good to be true, that's because the are BS. So many websites share an IP(mine had over 600 sites on it), most of the time webpages don't load and you can go days without being able to access your control panel or upload files.
Customer service is lame. If they don't like what you are asking, they simply don't respond. Why should they, they've got your money? To cancel your service, you need to fill out a webform to comply with their TOS, yet you have to ask them where to find the form on their website.
I can't wait to get my site on a real server with a legitimate company, who knows how much I've lost by being with these dirtbags.
If you go with Acenet, or Ace-Host, you're crazy.
I used them last year and they were ok for a while, however, I didn't need their service anymore and decided to cancel them. I emailed them and told them my request to cancel. Figuring everything was ok, I went about my business, only to get an email 8 months later from them telling me they could not process my invoice because my credit card was declined!
I give them a call, and they told me I never canceled the account even though I have an email record confirming that I sent them a request. They told me I never verified the "last 4 digits of my credit card", even though I never got the email explaining this because the email they sent to was the email under the hosting account which I canceled.
Any normal hosting company would just suspend and then cancel your account if they realize the credit card is being declined. These guys think it's good business practice to leave your account open and trying to charge your card every month, and when I called them to tell them they cannot think of charging me anything since I had canceled them 8 months earlier, they told me I never canceled with them and they will send me to collections 8 months for all the months I didn't pay them! What's worst, is I was not under any actual contract with these guys, they just decide to auto renew every month because they said I never officially "canceled".
I told them to go to hell because I am not gonna pay them for hosting I did not use and had canceled. Months go by, and recently I just noticed they were in fact able to get that on my credit. The collection company even went overboard and put 10 negative items on my credit report for $20 each, effectively doing their best to ruin my credit score.
I have used many hosting companies, and this is the only one I have ran into that will try to rip off a customer at any means.
I am not gonna pay them a dime, instead I will pay more to a credit repair company to disupute these items. If a customer stops paying you and there is no contract involved, most reputable companies will just suspend you your account. These people take it overboard, so make sure when you cancel you triple confirm that you did.
I tried using ace-host.net to set up a personal web page and email account for my wife, an author, in May 2004. Although we got set up and running quickly, and the price looked good, we ran into reliability problems immediately. Email was lost or bounced and the web page was down for several days during the first month. I cancelled the account and requested a refund under their 30-day policy, using the web form they provided at the time.
Not only did they not provide a refund, but one year later I got an invoice for the next year's service. I was unable to access their billing site with the password provided. I refused to pay the invoice, and several months later they contacted me, attempting to collect. Dealing with their support over this issue was an exercise in frustration, as nobody could provide an explanation for why my account had not been cancelled. I faxed in the results from submitting my cancellation request (which I had printed out at the time) but nobody seems to have received the fax or dealt with it. Each response from support seemed to be from a different person.
I don't really understand the negative rep on Ace-Host. I have been with them for a little over four years now, and I am thoroughly impressed. Currently I pay something like 3$ for a multitude of features, 100Gb bandwidth and 5Gb storage. The pricing is outstanding, and I have not been able to find anything to match it.
The customer support, although, wasn't always as great as it is now. I remember when they would offer to fix a script I had installed for 20$ when it stopped working, only because they did some updates on the server without informing me (something to do with file permissions, if I remember right). This is all in the past; just recently my php script started bugging me, and tech support fixed it in minutes without any hesitation.
Reliability has evolved. During my first year with them, there was a major issue with some ass who had shot down the servers from inside the company. I lost a lot of data, as my backup was quite old. However, to make ammends they have given me a year of free hosting. I could not ask for anything better. I love these guys; they have grown a lot.
I was with AceNet for about 6 months of a one year copntract. I was extremely disappointed with the downtime, slow loading and poor support. Each time I contacted support, I was always told it was my fault the server was loading slow even though my site was only using simple HTML at the time. They claimed it was a script I was using, but this domain didn't have any scripts running in it or in any other domain that would point to it. I dropped them and moved to another host making absolutely sure I removed my billing information and checking the box so that it would not auto renew at the end of my year with them.
They charged my credit card anyway 6 months later! Removing my billing info, what were they still doing with it? I contacted them several times and never received a response. After contacting my bank, I was refunded the money and even my banks investigator was not amused with AceNet after talking with them and getting their side. I had not even been to their site for 6 months and my site was no longer loaded in the directory and yet, AceNet claimed I was a satisfied customer geting several hits a day and they had a request from me on file to renew my account. Yet, when my bank asked to see this proof, they claimed they could not do that. My bank had all copies of e-mails I sent to them and yet, AceNet claimed they never received anything from me? I use ReadNotify and was able to prove they not only received my e-mail, but opened them and even Fwd'd two of them to other people. One e-mail was opened 5 times.
Made sure to cancel my membership SINCE 2005 and they have continued to charge me for 2 years straight and have given no means of cancellation and NO REFUND. WORST EVER! It is now 2006 and they have stolen a total of more than $200 USD. I'm thinking of taking legal action against them for doing this.
Just look at the other reviews here. We agree totally! Ace-host is awful!
We are a reseller web host that switched to Ace-host almost 2 years ago. At the time Ace-host seemed to offer everything we needed.
I accepted the problems/issues and tried to find ways to deal with it as I know every server setup has it's problems from time time and I believe in sticking with things. With around 40 client accounts, moving would be a big deal, but not anymore. Ace-host lost our business!
Ace-host has mostly gone downhill and never made any improvements.
Let me say first: pricing is the great. For those giving a 1 out of 5, I'll assume that's just the frustration. Pricing does not get much better.
The main problems we had that should be your reason not to choose them are:
1)
Ace-host kept on removing features with out any notice and give server load as the reason. Some of things they offered and then removed include:
- Spam Assasin. Apparently replaced with something else but my spam emails soon increased greatly.
- Web Stats. They just removed it and pointed me to a free one that offered next to nothing that I would have to install for each account. No Warning At All!
- Full Site Backups. This was available in cPanel but stopped, again because of server load issues. Apparentlt they cannot put limits, only stop services.
2)
We never received any notification for anything they did. Not when features were removed. Not when they did something to a specific account, or even after they did it.
They even changed to PHP 5 without saying so causing sites to not function properly. Now I like having PHP 5 and I can deal with having to modify some sites for it, but to not even saying anything beforehand!! ???
3)
Their support, while usually quick, is never very helpful. If it is not a packaged response to some issue then they simply say it was a server load issue and that's that. They definitely do not offer helpful advice.
Ace-host constantly suprised me and never in good way. All the issues added up gave me great frustration with their service so that even the smaller things seemed bigger. But it's all about service and if you want good service or need to give your clients good service, do not use Ace-host as your provider!
There are lots of other hosts - at least try one of them first.
2 words: REAL NIGHTMARE! If you hate someone recommend them acenet.
99,9% online my ass 15 offline in 6 month what about that? Got 3milliona visitors/year. No warning, no excuse, no phone service, ticket slow. Now they put me down supposly because of my forum and want me to upgrade to virtual server. All by ticket feel like am talking to a keyboard. They don't event listen to you. Cannot call them no phone. Treatent me to shoot it down again if I don't close the new group. Real reason they want me to upgrade my plan. How can i do it? . Cannot access FTP or either frontpage everything is down again! Modification are impossible to any of our 8 websites.
Today they are removed all the stats NO WARNING no back up NOthing just sended me a ready made email after i have inquired why. Less rensabilty for them more for me. They really think that customer are stupid. If i stay there i will have to upgrade 1000 pages to add a frre scrip for stats and also will have to pay since the free stas they offer a so basic.I HATE MYSELF SO MUCH TO HAVE TRUSTED THEM
Ace-Host tech support is horrible. If they have problems, they will blame it on your account using excess resources or some other lame excuse. If you call for help, you get a foreigner speaking very poor english. The worst of the worst. Trust me on this.
Their support is friendly, they're glad to help you et cetera.
But: the hosting sucks: they claim 99,9% uptime per month (which is still about 45 minutes per month offline) but from what I've measured you get about 97%, which is 28 HOURS offline time. This is huge!
If, and I say if, you wouldnt mind the downtime: watch out: they've lost two times in one year all the mysql tables en all the email setting.
It's just horrible. They "migrate servers" two times a year, without prior notice, they shut you down because your mailbox is > 50 mb without any warning. (when signing up, you were never told that that wasn't allowed)
I purchased hosting with Acenet because of the research I performed on Hosting companies. I ended up going with Acenet because I read more pros than cons, however, my experience with Acenet was a complete nightmare.
First of all, I went through the whole signup process including the telephone verification. After waiting 24 hours, I submitted a support ticket because I hadn't received my dns info. I was told that I had failed the security test and they needed me to fax over my DL and Credit Card (Front & Back). I do not have immediate access to a fax machine therefore I just asked them to cancel my account, I would look elsewhere. They told me no problem, funds would not be captured from my credit card and my account would remain inactive until I logged in to activate it, which I never did.
I purchased hosting from a new provider the same day. Within 24 hours I logged onto my online bank and seen Acenet billed me for $9.95. I immediately submitted a support ticket and asked them why I was billed after being told funds were never captured and I wouldn't be billed unless I faxed in proof of who I was. I was told I was in the wrong department and directed to the correct department. After finding the correct department I again explained the situation and the response I received was a copy and paste job of the Terms of Service. Nice customer service eh? I again, read the terms, followed the termination link and canceled the account that was never verified by me.
After all is said and done, I'm to receive $8.95 out of $9.95 back in 5 to 7 days. I'm disappointed that I was charged to begin with and highly upset that they got to keep my money after giving me the run around.
My suggestion, if it matters.... don't use Acenet. You'll get exactly what you pay for... Cheap Hosting and Cheap Customer Service!
I canceled my account with ace-host. Now do I feel stupid.
Compared to all these others I am trying, they are outstanding. It causes me to doubt all this rating stuff.
I have read the negative reviews of this host for a year, and posted one prior review.
Yes, they do get short with customers who ask things like,"Why won't this and that script do this?" They don't support scripts and such, and say so.
They do have strict rules, and TOS.
But they know Linux by gosh, and dang if I'm finding that anywhere else so far...
I think I will wind up crawling back with my tail between my legs before long.... I need server service, I can install my own scripts. If I knew enough nix, why would I ever use shared hosting?
Bottom line.. they know the servers, and I'm not finding that elsewhere, so far.
Ace-net is horrible. First their hosting is spotty at best. Second their customer service is the worst C/S I've ever dealt with. You can't even call them. If you do, they direct you to their online help desk acenet.inc/helpdesk - once you file a ticket, they say it takes 20 minutes. It may take 30 or more. Once they reply, they reply in this dialog box, when you reply back it can take another 20 or more minutes for them to get back to you!
My problem was they suspended my site. They said I sent over 200 e-mails an hour and that was a violation of their terms. Which is B.S. because I don't even use the e-mail from my site. Either someone hacked my account or they're lying. If someone hacked it, they obviously don't care to help find who did it. Or they are lying. Either way I'm very unhappy with their service.
So they pretty much extort me to pay $25 to bring back my website hosting. Unfortunately I paid for a 3 year service and I'm still in the first year. Needless to say, I'm going to look for a new host.
I wouldn't recommend these jokers to anyone.
******** BELOW IS THE B.S. THEY SENT ME **************
"Unfortunately your account was found sending in excess of 200 emails/hour. All of our servers have a 200 emails/hour limit enacted on them.
Any mail sent beyond this is automatically bounced and not sent out. However, it continues to build a load on our server. In the interest of keeping server load acceptable we were forced to suspend your account.
Please bring your email sending to below 200 emails/hour. If you are able to do so, we can unsuspend your account in accordance with our Mass Email Policy cited below. If you must send beyond this amount you will have to upgrade to a Virtual Dedicated Server or Dedicated Server.

Mass Emailing Policy
Each hosting plan is limited to sending no more than 200 emails in any 60 minute period. This policy is necessary to protect the quality of Acenets hosting service, as mass emailing can consume excessive amounts of server resources, which negatively impacts the quality of hosting service other clients receive. First violations of this policy will result in an Administrative Fee of $25.00 and immediate account suspension. To be re-activated , the client must provide a written and signed statement stating I have read, understood, and agree to Acenets Mass Emailing Policy. Any second violation of this policy will result in immediate account cancellation and imposition of an Administrative Fee of $100.00. Acenet shall not refund to Customer any fees paid in advance of such cancellation and Customer shall be obligated to pay all fees and charges accrued prior to the effectiveness of such cancellation; further, Customer shall be obligated to pay 100% of all charges for all Services for each month remaining in the Term. Acenet reserves the right to determine, in its sole and absolute discretion, what constitutes a violation of this provision."
i've not noticed any of the problems people have submitted, ive sent them two clients on their full package so far and no one has complained about them, ok just 1 problem but any one could have made it and was corrected in a timly mannor.
I am really pissed off by this host, currently they took my website offline stating that my site had hacking scripts and was attempting against copy rights and showed me over 10 supposely suspicious files that might be scripts for hacking.
Only one of those was a CD Crack I admit, however they didnt warn me at all and just wiped out my site.
They didnt want to give me ANYTHING, we didnt have backups, so I threated them with lawsuit and finally they agreed to give a zip of the main files of my sites, pictures, zips and such.
However they threated me again that if harming files are still present in my site, they would delete it again without previous warning.
So I am pissed off, and as I said before I am about to place a lawsuit to this company, I will need some help people......
Those who are willing to get a piece of them, you can email me with your experience and contact information, will be kept in the top confidentiality and hopefully I will make them pay!!!
Its outrageus that a hoster can abuse a customer in such way. But this will happen no more if I find enough material to prosecute the company.
My email is kaissah@gmail.com you can email me there. Best Regards.
Repeated downtime is terrible, but the worst aspect of my relationship with ace-host.net is their billing. They have ignored multiple cancellation requests, continuing to charge my credit card. Don't even think about disputing a charge; their ToS outlines a $100 fee for all disputed charges. Downtime aside, their pricing and site performance is great. I'm a pretty reasonable guy when it comes to my expectations from a bottom-feeder $5/month web host; unfortunately (for me!), ace-host.net has failed to meet even those low expectations.
The owner of The Best Fanpage in the Universe contacted me last week asking how to change DNS entries. I told him he had to contact the person that owned the domain name and get it done. He did. Little did I know what he was up against. He had accidentally ordered a new package from ace-host rather than renewing his existing one. He contacted them to make sure he only paid for one-and they ended up leaving him with the blank new web account rather than the existing one with all his databases/scripts. They refused, flat out, to admit that they did anything wrong. He's not a technical guy, and their normal tech was out so I stepped in and started putting everything back on the site. Mind you we're on a different one of their servers now. Once everything got back up (including some 'fun' restoring a 45meg DB backup) I noticed some odd files in the root of public_html. The server had been hacked. He contacted the host and they threatened to suspend his account and once again reset the webpage. They didn't even look into the source of the hacks-and the site was hacked yet again.
Needless to say they've cancelled the account and moved to a new server.
Fist time with a reseller . This is so desapointing 2 down times in 3 month first for over 7 days no real explanation no phone number to call them just tickets. Customer support 0/10 second one over 24 hours now still no customer service no answer on the phone mailbox full. loosing hundreds every day because of them. All my customer hosted with us are really opset but what can i say. I'm still withour answer after 24 hours.
Already looking for a better company only after 4 month with them real nightmare
Don't even thinking about getting service with "ace-host" the reason why I join is because of the price but ALL MY DATA + my vacation images was loss on my website and cannot be recover (everything is gone) Im really upset about this problem and will be looking for another host.
Forget these guys. They take your money, lose your data, take weeks to respond to your complaints, and then finally lose your accounts altogether. I'm giving up on ever getting a refund, or even getting the original services I paid for!
This company is a complete fraud. If you enjoy throwing your money away and wasting your time, by all means host with them.
It seems that i have been tricked into signing with this hosting provider just like the many others. I have had numerous problems with this hosting provider. But the last one is just too much to handle. I have lost all of clients websites and all of their email. I am trying to see what these guys are going to responde with.
I don't recommend this hosting provider to anyone.
Cheating people to get more money, yesterday they sent me an email that i have to upgread to higher server and pay $30 per moth or find another host company !!!!
My site is very poor no visitors att all just some people by chance from google and i have 5GB space 100 000 GB bandwdth that i just use 10 MB in space and 50 MB band width every month. I don't know why i have to pay $30 every month.
After i reject thir oreder thy susbened my account!!!!
i told them that i will trnsfer to another host compay and 10 monthers left for me with ace- host and i need credit but they say that you have no credit at all. go fuck your self !!!!!!!!!!
I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO WORST ANEMY FOR ME. THEY ARE THE WORST COMPANY I HAVE EVER SEEN. DON'T SIGN WITH THEM AT ALL AND DON'T EVEN THINK TO TRY.
I will try and make this my last conflict with them as you all have read from everyone else all the problems we go though. But I notice that neomail had dissapeared, but didn't much care since I like to use horde. But then horde dissapeared. This is the ticket I know my spelling is bad. I will now move to another server. Not just because of this but this was the last straw. I don't want to stay for the train wreck.

Where did Horde go. Is it being updated? If it is when will it be back?
There is only squirlmail and I really not into using that program at all. Horde works for us so please let me know what is going on.

Unfortunately we were forced to shut down horde. The horde software has been inefficient and abusive due to a certain bug within their software, because of this bug it was immensely slowing the performance of the servers and causing huge performance degradation. As soon as Horde fixes this bug we will be more then happy to restore this feature, however in its current condition we can not allow it to be accessed any longer. In addition squirrel mail is newer and provides all the same functions except the spelling checker. Which we believe this bug to actually be in the spelling checker, squirrel mail should be more then proficient to your needs.

That really is not an option. I use the email alot and squirrel mail simply isn't a 21 century program. I cann't even take looking at it. When I signed up there were 3 mail options and then 2 but I didn't mind because horde works very will. I am building a whole comunity of people to work on my project. I have spent way to much time and energy on the site and My software to be told that horde is now gone. I signed up for a server that had horde on it. You cann't just take it way because it doesn't suit you anymore. Or you feel that your not getting all you can out of the server. That is simply to bad. Horde will be more hardware intencive than squirrel mail. Squirrel mail would be just fine if we were living in the unix age of the 70's. Do not make lazy excuses because you want to sail more server space but horde is taking to much proccessor power. I don't care how it's done but I need horde. Every other server uses it, I don't buy into the fact that there is some bug stopping only you and your going to wait for them to fix it. That simply isn't true now is it. Put horde back on. It was in my package description.

Sir,
We have been seeing hanging Horde processes on shared hosting servers and they are definitely impacting the quality of service. Due to this, and to that fact that we offer another webmail program, we have decided to disable Horde. If this is unacceptable to you, we can close your account and issue a pro-rated refund, but we have an obligation to uphold the integrity of our service.

Jeremiah,
I know you appreciate a high quality of service, so we appreciate your support while we research this. As soon as we find the cause and a viable solution, you can rest assured Horde will be available again. However, would would appreciate if you could use Squirrel mail until we have this all worked out.
The people are right. This company covers their arse quite well, but what is legally right is not always morally right.
The story:
They accidentally deleted my account, i.e. I lost everything. I had backups of the files but not the databases. In my cpanel I downloaded backups every week because they do not backup their stuff. I used the link that said "Generate full backup", but for some reason that backup does not generate a db backup which I realized after I untarred one of them.
The result:
My money making website with 1000's of users and data was gone. To compensate they gave me a lecture on how they are not responsible for anything, and a link to the document which explains this. Oh yeah, they also compensated two months of extra hosting time. Whoopee!
they susbend my account after 40 days of susbcribe for a year. just because i contact my forum members by the forum mail list and they said that you have just 200 mails ber hars and i have to pay $25 ticket and next time will be $100 if you send again.
after a while a problem had happend in my mysql data base and i asked them to restor the last backup they have but they have nothing !!!!!!!!!!!!!
i had one and i tried to restore it and they susbend my account for using MYQL !!!!
i restored 20MB date base and they said you crash the server !!!! what kind of server they have. and i have to bay $50 fine or sign a paper for removing and not using VB forum in my site. i tried to terminate but thy say no refund you are more than 30 days and you have to pay the fine or no refund.
over all they want to milke money from you and then kick your ass just when the first 30 days pass.
I DON'T RECOMMEND IT TO ANY BODY UNLESS HE WOULD LIKE TO GET STOLE IN A SUNNY DAY.
in fact i don't speak english but the anger made me write this.
In the past month and a half I have had two hardware (disk) failures at Ace, which resulted in multiple days of downtime and corrupted websites after the hardware issue had been fixed.
Each instance was on different sites that I host, on completely different servers.
Support response was quick, but clearly the best support would have been to a) keep my sites up or b) restore them properly.
Ace-host.net has treated me more than fairly. Any host has issues at times.
The downtimes I have seen seem to have been due to upgrade issues, and I would have liked a little notice, so I could warn people that downtime might be on the way. Under the TOS, and other polices, they are under no obligation to do that, but, I agree, it would have been nice.
They are UPFRONT about their policies, if you take time to read them. They clearly stat that they assume that you have a basic understand of linux.
I bet 80% of you complainers do not even know how to create an .htaccess
file by editing your own. Do you have a basic understanding of bind, cron, sendmail, etc.?
My guess is that if it's not point and click, you are lost.
I would not recommend them for anyone who can't read policies, the rest of you go ahead, if as they CLEARLY state, you have a basic understanding of what you are doing.
If you want a mama to watch over you, then prehaps you would be happier somewhere else.
In conclusion, they give what they tell you they will, but that is assuming that you can read, which, by most comments here, most of you can't.
DON'T USE THIS COMPANY! I have been down for 4 days and still counting. They are too cheap to spend money on good equipment.
Can you believe they do not run backups on their servers each night. Let me repeat this again because I this is almost too unbelievable.... they DO NOT RUN BACKUPS ON SERVERS DAILY! They have no raid drives on servers either.
There is no-one to talk to. All requests are handled by on-line tickets. They do get back in touch w/ you quite rapidly, however, they their replies are inconsistent. One person tells me I will get my e-mails when the server comes up while anoter tells me that they are all lost.
STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS BECAUSE IT WILL COST YOU DEARLY IF YOU GO WITH THESE $&^@#)*&$!
Itīs the worst hosting company that i have ever tried, 2 days down, and they simple said that under those circunstancess i h only can wait, what is that kind of answer, and the guarantee is nos valid with them, is very bad.
DO NOT USE ACE-HOST! My biggest complaint with ace-host is that they are a company who tries to trick their clients in order to generate business. A quality company/host would not use such tactics. Ace-host sticks to their inflexible terms of service like no other company I've ever seen. This way their company is covered when you try to sue them. A good company doesn't need pulitzer prize winning "terms of service" to make money and keep bringing customers back. However, if you read their terms of service closely, you will discover that they will not refund you for any reason what so ever. Down time: too bad. Not their fault they say. No refund; look at their terms of service.
Before your term is up and you've already moved on to a better host, they send you an email invoice saying that your bill is ready. Don't try to reply to that email like I did telling them that you don't want to keep using their poor service, because that email won't go to anyone's inbox. You absolutely must terminate your service using a webform on their site before they automatically bill you for another term. Read their terms of service line by line because they try tricking you into paying and they will not refund anything.
Legally, they cover their behind. But a quality company doesn't trick a customer into paying for their services and then tell them no refunds.
Very poor uptime! I have been down for at least 72 hours in the last two weeks. One time I was down for 24 hours total because they said they needed to replace a hard drive on my server. All this happened without warning. No email from them.
They do respond to support tickets pretty fast but they do not give you the answers you need. Very general.
Way to much downtime. On average my site was down about 15 hours a week. My google hits for the first and second month were around 85 and dropped to 15 over the 6 months I was with them. Customer service is only by tickets or email and they respond only with prescripted notes.
I would not recommend this hosting company to my worst enemy.
First, I had a reseller account clubprocessing.com that caused me to lose a few customers because of frequent downtime. After I lost the accounts my card was declined for a month, which caused them to shut off the service. This happened in February. In June they charged my card for 5 months of service at $29.95 a month for the time that it was down. I disputed the charges with them and then I looked at their policies and they claimed that it was not disputable. I think that it it is ridiculous how they waited 5 months before attempting to charge my card again.
I had another domain ibizsystems.net that has been down for about 60 hours in the last month. This has happened in 24 hour increments. I had a demo for a customer yesterday at 3:00pm that I rescheduled for today. It looks like I may lose the potential client because my site is still down.
I signed up with a new hosting company thanks to the reviews at webhostingjury and I am hoping for better results.
I've had numerous downtime/poor loading spells with ace-host.net. The final straw came when they decided to shut down the server my website was on in order to change a hard drive.
This was done without notice, my website was down for over 20 hours, and is still down as I type this. I lost hundreds of dollars whilst my advertising continued to send visitors to this website, and lost hundreds of dollars in revenue from my website.
Ace-host's reaction to this? No compensation, no refund after terminating account. They had the cheek to offer a months worth of hosting for no cost, and that's about $5 worth. Hardly compensation.
After requesting to cancel my hosting and refund months unused, they refused. So I basically lost a lot of money with ace-host.com, and hosting fees were the least of it.
AVOID ACE-HOST.NET AT ALL COSTS! USE ACE-HOST.NET AT YOUR OWN RISK!

After you have the backups and everything else from your account, please follow our account termination policy to cancel your account. This policy and procedures are within our \"terms and agreements\". There is a link to our terms on the bottom of every page of our website.
Once the form has been filled out we can provide you with a refund for the time unused.

thanks for contacting us.
Me: Posted on 16 Jul 2005 01:56 AM
well, my account has been terminated a month ago now and i still haven\'t yet received my refund. Please let me know. Thanks.
Acenet: Posted on 16 Jul 2005 02:13 AM
Refunds are only provided within the first 30 days of account setup.
Please read our terms at the following link: https://ace-host.net/terms.html
Note: The above conversations are made between me and AceNet. Those are ACTUAL and I didn\'t change a word.
Evaluation: Actually I don\'t care about refunds, rather I just wanted to see what they were going to say! As you can see, they always say, \"please read our TOS\" all the time. I suspect that their TOS keeps changing from time to time because the first response clearly indicates that they would refund me for the months I didn\'t use. Thanks God I didn\'t sign up with ACENET for more than a year. I guess that\'s how they make money from customers. This is my worst experience ever in my life.
I was deliriously happy with AceNet for the first few months -- until they suddenly took my site down at the end of the business day and visitors saw a notice telling them the site was down and Billing should be notified. After several frantic emails, I was told the forum software I was running was "causing severe performance issues," and they demanded that I either change forum software or upgrade to a virtual dedicated server to the tune of $60 a month! After I checked around a lot, I discovered that my software could NOT be causing a problem, and sent them voluminous doumentation. Eventually, I was told "Your site is active now. We will monitor the server for troubles. Unless you wish, we will not force you to upgrade at this time. However, if we find that the server is having a high load and can trace the cause back to your forums, we will have to resuspend." IOW, I can prolly expect at some future date to find myself staring at a page that my account has been suspended again, being held for ransom, so I am in the process of moving my site NOW before this happens again.
Their support people had been excellent and *astoundingly* fast, and I was crazy about all the available features, but this extortion has me close to having a heart attack. I'm no longer recommending AceNet to anyone, unless the have just a site that sits there with pages for people to look at. If they're doing any processing (ie, running software), I suggest you look elsewhere so you don't find yourself being extorted at the end of the business day like I was.
Ace-host is my very first web hosting and I signed up with them because it is cheap ($4.95/mo), big space (2GB) and planty of databases. After a few months, my website was suddenly suspended without any valid reason. They said, "Excessive Server Usage" but my bandwidth usage is no more than 1GB for a month (out of 60GB plan). I couldn't believe it! And they have the worst customer service ever! The only way to contact them is by tickets and their replies are unprofessional, inaccurate, misleading and unrespectful. I was so disappointed with their service. They just kicked me out without any refunds or any kind of releveant explaination. Thanks God I only signed up with them for just one year.
My last advice: DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT GETTING THEIR OFFER!
When I purchased hosting Invision board was in there in offer package.
Few months after many down times somebody hacked server (that what they said) and they did not have any backup at all.... they did not have a backup! Cant believe....!
They told me backup was on server too and they deleted everything... Did anybody else keep bakup on the same harddisk and same computer? What a security...
I paid web desinger again to build my site!
After that site went down again but at this time harddisk broke. They resotred backup which is 3-4 months old...
After that I could not install my Invision board again because they pulled it up from hosting package...
DO NOT use Ace-Host use Lunarpages. I went round and round with these overseas support morons who kept telling me the problem was on my end. The issue was with FrontPage extensions not working. They worked fine for a month then suddenly stopped. Two weeks of these guys telling me it was on my end and my Troubleshooting and testing, finally I went elsewhere and everything was proven to work fine on my end.
TERRIBLE support that does not know what they are doing, email/web only/ no way to call and complain or talk to a person, etc.
Horrible. I've had ace-host.net for 5 days and I've had downtime 7 times already that I'm aware of. Customer service was pretty quick to respond, but only AFTER I sent in a ticket about the downtime...including twice after my site was down for several hours. Good thing for the 30 day money back guarantee I plan to take advantage of once I find a new host service. (In the process of looking now on this site for one.)
Ace-host offers a great value for the price they charge: 2GB of space and 60GB of monthly traffic for $4/month (if you pay 2 years in advance. I did...) + unlimited MySQL DBs, which was what made me decide in their favor.
Then the site went down for the first time. They took care of bringing it up fairly fast - but didn't care to say "sorry."
The site went down again - this time it took 24 hours (of lost business!) and "we apologize for the inconvenience." No explanation - just a canned phrase.
Three days ago the site died again - and this time they really pissed me off. For two days they kept telling me "we're working on it;" then suddenly they informed me I had used excessive resources and that they had suspended the site. To overuse 60GB of monthly traffic?! It takes an effort. I hardly use 3GB.
I guess what really happened was they lost a hard disk and did not have any backup - but would not admit it. They would not agree to return the money for the unused year either. In the final score, they just cut me out and are not replying to my messages.
I hope this gives you a clear picture of what to expect if something goes wrong. Feel free to contact me - labra[at]hotmail.com - if you need more juicy details or want to see copies of their messages.
