Overall I'm very satisfied with BlueHost. We have switched all clients hosting through us to BlueHost (15 sites). We only experienced a single outage in the past 12 months ... uptime and support has been great. I especially like the live chats as typically I don't have to wait more than a minute or two.
I moved my forum database (not the domain) from another hosting site about 2 or more years ago because the backup utilities at the other hosting site were terrible and unreliable. Bluehost uses a Linux server and my backups are so simple now --- and they (Bluehost) also do their own site-by-site backups regularly for easy restore. I would have left it that way (My main dot-com still at the other site and having it re-directed to the forum at Bluehost). But the other company (don't know if I can name it here so I'll leave it out) then began to go south -- servive interriptions, very long tech support call waiting, shutting down sites without warning for Malware THEY should have blocked --- and becoming totally non-responsive. They lefy me no choice -- so with the help of a Bluehost technicician, I have begun moving all of my domains (DNS) to Bluehost and will also begin the process of switching all the registrations to them as well. I fgeel bad for Netfirms -- they were so fantastic for the first 6 years I used them -- but no lonher. I also think they have been "taken over" and that may explain the change? Not sure. But I AM sure that right now Bluehost has been wonderful and the tecj wait time is NOT 45 minutes -- more like 5-10. I strongly recommend them.
I've been using bluehost since 2006, and for a shared hosting environment knowing that my server is being shared among a lot of users, their services have been better than i initially expected. Given the load the reliability & uptime is also good! and the live chat is a very good and efficient way to get minor issues resolved.
However I do have a couple of things that any prospective client should look at:
1. This IS a shared hosting service, they will cap your bandwidth, your sites will suffer if another user on your "box" is experiencing problems and your sites will experience load issues.
be prepared for these when you go to any shared host!
2. The support is kind of slow, for smaller issues it doesn't show, but for anything out of their regular course of work they can stall you pretty long for support! (Not that i'm complaining , i still feel they are the best)
3. You get your hosting as is, even though they never deny you a lot of things and they'd allow you to install PECL extensions etc eventually this will have issues with other users on your server and they might have to remove these add-ons. That's ok for me. what is not ok is that they dont tell you that they did! I had APC installed on my server this September and they removed it in October without even bothering to tell me.
Other than that you can hardly find things to complain about BlueHost!
Oh, one more thing this might be useful,
In case you are experiencing uncommonly high server outages you can request bluehost to move you to another box (server) as there are some particular machines with higher loads or more demanding applications running. Try that before you think of changing your host. :)
I moved from Microsoft and then Yahoo. I have been happy overall with Bluehost. The customer services are good. You can get customer support via chat almost instantly thought some of the cusotmer folks are better than other. I have 3 websites with them and I have refered a few. They go down some times but overall are OK.
My html pages are getting hacked regularly. They are hacked to change enale pop us, change direction of the page & open another unknown website in the frame, install virus on client computers & on.These problems on these pages can be corrected if we upload the same pages & overwite them from our disk back up.
Their support chat response is "I cannot troubleshoot the code of your site, I do not know how they are getting into your pages, but they are not getting access via the server"
So you see, there is no technical support to write back home about. Can someone help?
I have about 12 websites (all php/mysql based) with Bluehost, and never, ever had a problem. Their customer service is very friendly and responds within minutes almost, and whatever needs you have (cron, ssl, you name it), it's there.
Bluehost is easy to use, and would be inexpensive at twice the price.
I actually wish Bluehost would charge more for their hosting, and invest in more tech support. Maybe it's just the noob questions I tend to ask, but rarely do I call their tech support without getting the distinct impression that the guy is gritting his teeth in irritation at having to talk with me.
I got 2 site host by blue host , now they had another plan is just make me signed another account with them 200GBstorage and 2000GB ....they are the best .
After my previous nightmarish experience with another hosting company, Bluehost is heaven. No problems at all. I have 4 domains on one account and have had no downtime. On the few occasions I've called their tech support I was thrilled to speak to someone whose first language is English and who actually knew what they were talking about.
I am hosting with BlueHost since 3 years and honesly I had enough of their promisses on fixing serevrs.Almost every weekend from 12am-6am the site is going down for what ever reason router, mysql server, cpu overload I mean this si a nightmare I cant wait to switch and I am so sorry for all the customers I refered to them. The plan looks awesome but once you there the harware does not work properly. They moved my sites to 3 diferent servers and still same crap.
On the surface Bluehost looks great. Tons of storage and bandwidth for 7 bucks a month. They also have a great support staff.
However, the good of Bluehost is out weighed by the bad. It would appear that they can not keep up with their growth and over selling. First they got DDoSed, but one of their features listed is "Denial of Service Protection (DDOS)" Next they had a power outage, and half their boxes went down even though "Diesel Generator Backup Power" is a listed feature only the half that stayed up were hooked up to the generators. Then the same thing happened again later that same week. Most recently they have been having network wide "bandwidth issues" regardless of their listed feature of an "OC-48 Backbone Connection” All of this has happened in the last two months. And while their support staff is great for normal support, they suck at communicating system wide problems to the customers. I am seeing a pattern of lies leading to downtime, and I am fed up with it.
I am in the process of actively looking for a new web host.
Things that bug me most:
- No secure login to the administration panel. I don't feel okay sending the username and password for administration panel in cleartext over the Internet.
- No hardcopy or PDF billing receipts. In most countries receipts are needed for documenting business expenses so they can be deducted from one's taxes. Hardcopy receipts would be best, but PDF ones will also do. Upon request, I only got an ugly ASCII text copy & paste of billing data in an email. Not very professional.
I also think the administration panel is somewhat kludgy and not very pleasing to the eye.
I also don't quite understand why the 3 different stat systems, each show different stats (e.g. hit counts) for the same periods of time.
My experience with signing up with Bluehost has been nothing short of a nightmare. They have a great plan on offer on the surface, but look under the hood and you will soon find some serious short comings with what they are really offering. Unfortunately for the unsuspecting you don’t find this out until you sign up and they have you by the short and curlies. For example they offer six (6) domains under one account. Well far from it, what you really get is one (1) domain and five (5) limited domains. Fixed IP’s can only be provided on the main domain and the functionality through the control panel is very limited. Their support is typically reasonable for basic things, but wait until you strike a real problem that actual requires someone to think for more than 10 seconds on it. My experience has been they will fob you off until the cows come home and then some. Buy beware!
This host is awesome! You actually get support! Don't you hate it when you call for support and you know more than the person you are talking to. This won't happen at bluehost. They also give you 2 gigs of space and 75 gigs of transfer. They even offer over 50 free scripts at the touch of a button. I have finally found a home for my site, and Im not moving anytime soon!
