Verdict : Happy so far. The free account is a great choice if you are learning ASP.NET because most other free sites do not allow access to directories and various server side ASP functions for so called "security" reasons. So far i have tried out a hit counter, reading and writing to Access DB, file upload using ASP.NET, SSI with Jscript and everything worked fine. I found support responsive to free account holders. There is good online help available as well.

That said, i would have serious doubts about signing up for a paid service based on the horror stories about e-mail, hijacking of domains, levels of availability from paying users. Management had better wake up, else they'll only attract some developers who want to try their stuff out free.

Verdict : OK, here's the skinny from a developer's point of view (Web development since 96):

I recommend them... with a caveat. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE THEIR MAIL SERVER. For almost a year, I could randomly be viewing someone's inbox - which meant that someone could be getting mine. Oh, yeah. Not kidding. We quit and took all of our domains to Godaddy. Goddaddy was cheap but too restrictive.

Brinkster allows for 5 application roots in the Pro Plan. That is enough for a developer. I have a Dotnetnuke install in one and our business web store in another. I have webservices running in a third. $10 extra for a 250MB SQL Server DB. (That's at little high.) But, I've found their MS ASP.NET web hosting to be reliable. I came back with all of my domains - DotNetNuke, webstore, and all. (Except my email - which is safely nestled in Google Apps.)

Brinkster pretty much lets me do what I want/need to do. Their technical staff, while not always the brightest, are always willing to help. I have never had a problem with support (other than email, but I've already said my peace about that).

Flexibility comes at a little bit of a price with Brinkster. But if you can put your email somewhere else... I'd recommend them.

Verdict : Brinkster once had good packages and competitive pricing. Today it isn't the case anymore. A lot of competitors offer much more for less. Their base package supports PHP and MS-Access, but not SQL, which is kind of weird.

Customer service is very efficient, they usually resolve your problem pretty fast. Only caveat, it's not 24/7. Besides, the account-creation process is not fully automated. I bought more than one package, and in every case, there were features that were not enabled, even if they were part of the deal. You'll have to go through customer service to activate all features.

Also, downtime is pretty high. About 20-25% of the time, there's something broken, be it your email server, web server, FTP, MySQL server, etc.

Still, they offer a free package. Try it out before you buy, and then decide for yourself. I know I won't buy another package from them.

Verdict : They have a package for every need, from personal to developer packages, also they have a 24 hour support service that rocks!
Even hough there is no cpanel like other providers, Brinkster control panel page is sorta friendly and has an online support chat that helps u in any way u need.

24 hour 7/365 support service, great hosting plans, awsome web space and plenty of other resouces, makes brinkster a great choice to host ur site.

Verdict : After loosing my patience I have decided to speak about the performance of Brinkster services. After of all, it is my HONEST ADVICE that NEVER THINK ABOUT BRINKSTER FOR HOSTING. It is totally unreliable and its support doesn’t tell you right thing.

I have been using it for the last 2-3 years and it was OK at the start but it has been worst since last 7-8 months. I am getting complaints from people whom I referred to use Brinkster. Its server remains down most of the time and they don’t care about it. Yesterday, it was down and luckily I get contacted with one of its support person. Upon my complaint, that support person answered that I should have upgraded my hosting package from shared to the dedicated one then I would not have any problem. That support person admitted him/herself that Brinkster had problems with its share hosting packages. I also have written to the sales and marketing team of Brinkster to stop selling shared packages and don’t waste customers’ time.

I hope you love your time and money and would not consider this trash for any sort of service. I am also looking for some good hosting service and I would move my sites from Brinkster very soon.

Verdict : I've hosted my site (irishrockers.com) on Brinkster for a few years starting with their free package and moving to the pro package when I started getting some traffic to the site and exceeding the limits of the free package. I find them to be decent and haven't experienced any problems like the ones mentioned in some reviews here. I actually find their tech support to be quite good, you can access pretty much anytime by online chat and usually without having to wait too long. I chose them in the first place because they were offering free Windows hosting and I did most of my server side programming in ASP. But they also provide PHP on their Windows servers and have Linux hosting also. I'm actually trying to find a new host now but thats because I want to find a cheap but reliable reseller plan.

Verdict : I was only mucking about with starting a domain at first and the pricing is what attracted me to Brinkster. It did seem like a strange name but was recommended it. I am in Australia and at the moment can't even get my site up, let alone Brinkster.com itself. I don't have any trouble with any domain I type in except brinkster related ones. This is totally unacceptable. Yes the mail server goes down constantly too. Now I need to really get serious and this company is anything but serious. You have to be able to get into the website everytime without trouble. Even sites in China and Russia are more reliable than this. Not recommended for anything.

Verdict : Brinster used to be the best. I was with them for years and very happy before I started having issues.
It started with the site being down contantly. Then they changed their interface, and half the features of the new interface didn't work on a Mac. Considering that Macs are the standard in the design industry, I felt this was a horrible mistake on their part.

Then they allowed my domain to be hijacked. There was no protection whatsoever on my domain. Someone requested a transfer from Brinskter domain hosting to GoDaddy domain hosting, and they allowed the transfer without contacting me. So I lost my domain and had to buy a new one, as well as have 1000 new business cards printed to reflect the changes.

Worst hosting company I've ever dealt with. I closed my account and will never deal with them again.

Verdict : I've been using Brinkster for more than five years. The realtime online support was good, admin interface was simple and user friendly, quality / price ratio was high. I recommended the service to many people. But one thing clouded everything: Their last email server upgrade. It's a complete mess. Now it's been more than one month and they are still working on it and we still can't use our emails appropriately. We were only able to use our mailboxes from time to time. Because of long queues we weren't able to reach online support nor use web based email interface. I'm sorry but I will not recommend Brinkster to anybody anymore.

Verdict : Please avoid Brinkster.
The control panel interface is awful and buggy.
The support has disappeared.
They charge your credit card for various things they don't tell you about when you sign-up.
Their webmail interface is behind the times and the new web mail interface is buggy and useless.
Whenever the need to make a change they manage to mess it up and you are down for ages.
They changed the service without telling you so many of my apps have failed and need to be rewritten.

Please avoid brinkster. I will from now on.

Verdict : Have been using brinkster for about 3 years. Started off as an excellent hosting company. All of a sudden, they are the worst in every way imagineable. Site down multiple times for extended period of time. Email server is completely irratic and unstable. Lose emails, sometime you can't send email, sometime you can't receive and sometimes both. What did their customer support have to say about it? Well, they told me that it was better that we get our own mail server for our company. At least they pretty much admitted that the quality of their product SUCKS! Yes, they are inexepensive. But, I don't believe in the phrase "you get what you pay for". You pay less with Brinkster...so, maybe you get less features or you are not priority on trouble tickets. However, does anyone really expect that when you pay less that you will get bad service and very poor quality? Of course not! But, that's exactly what you should expect with Brinkster customer service and product. Anyway, we are currently switching hosting company as we speak.

The price is ok is not good as others.
The services is not WOW, they need more and more features.
Customers services OR LiveChat is stupied, suck, rude and NOT helpfull.
They don't have all information they can support you with, and they are cheap in thier answer..

Verdict : GARBAGE!
Brinkster used to be the best! Now they're the worst, a total nightmare. I haven't been able to get anything done for months. Some of their support people admit there's problems, other's just fill you full of company lines.

What works at home won't work on their site so you'll have to edit the files on their site which is where you'll enter Hell! They claim to have two different ways to edit/save/create files....neither work!

I'm absolutely frustrated with these people.

Verdict : I develop and maintain a web site that has been hosted on Brinkster for several years; I recently redeveloped the site in late 2005/early 2006, so my experience with them has been only for 6-8 months. From what I can tell, the host was chosen almost solely because of the price level.

While I agree that Brinkster has low prices, you pretty much get what you pay for, especially when it comes to the horrendous customer service. (Apparently they had a review on CNET stating that "customer services is where [they] shine"...I'm darned if I can find this review.)

My client bought his business from someone else late last summer. While he updated all the contact info on his Brinkster account, he neglected to update the credit card, since he was still getting one issued with his company name on it. After the card came, he totally forgot about updating the info at Brinkster (something he freely admits to).

In the meantime, payment for his Brinkster account came due this spring, and the charge went onto the previous owner's card. Oops.

So the previous owner - instead of contacting my client - simply had the item cancelled on his credit card as a fraudulent charge, thereby eliminating payment for the hosting plan. Which, of course, killed the web site. (And yes, apparently, the previous owner knew exactly what he was doing.)

While I understand this could happen, and part of the fault is both with my client and the previous owner, not *once* did Brinkster contact my client and ask him about this problem. Not an e-mail, snail mail or phone call (and they had all the correct info for those avenues of communication). They simply cancelled the hosting. It took several calls and badgering to make them understand the problem and help us to fix it.

The kicker? While the site was down, everyone got e-mail (including tons of spam). When the site was put back online and the account renewed, the e-mail went away. We now have to wait at least another business day for it to be active again (I'm not holding my breath that it will take that short of a time). Did anyone warn us about this? No.

This interaction is pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back for my client and myself. Overall, I've got to say I have always found the technical support a bit snotty and ready to pass the buck, or assume that I'm an idiot (10 years developing web sites, almost a lifetime on computers - I know my way around troubleshooting and frame my questions with all the appropriate information needed for a tech to answer my question quickly). Billing has been nicer, but a pain in the butt, nonetheless.

My client and I are spending the few months assessing his needs for the Internet, and we'll be moving on as soon as we can.

I went to Brinkster only because it was referred in one MS press certification book hoping it should be good.
I used one of their promotional packages to upgrade my account to Professional.
I gave all my details including my credit card info. They even showed receipt page and asked to print it which I did. And I got an email also saying my account will be ready in 12 hours.
Waited 24 hours and wrote to support.
Then they say I haven't upgraded my account and they wanted me to upgrade the account again!
No thank you.
If they can't do something like that properly how can I expect them to take care of my site.
Thank God the transaction failed. :)
I am looking for some other host.

Verdict : Apart from being a good, reliable host, Brinkster has serious issues with money. Don't trust the website statistics in the Administration panel for keeping tabs on your bandwidth useage - its unreliable. I ended up having to pay $38 in ONE month because I went over my bandwidth limit, but I had no idea since the statistics in the Admin Panel were incorrect.

Also, if you live in Europe and are signing up for a new Brinkster account, watch out for the $10.44 in Tax you don't get told about until the money has come out of your account. For pages and pages, you get told you're paying X amount, but only when the money has left your account, you're told its actually X + $10.44

I'll never host with Brinkster again.
