Compila is the worst hosting provider I have ever come across. Some say the prices are good BUT in my opinion I wouldnt even pay a penny for any of it.
Email is poor quality, our business relies on a lot of worldwide mail and it often gets bounced.
We gave up on the web hosting side of things a long time ago and purley use hosting to redirect to another provider.
And to top it all, they suspended our account on 30th December and 13:00 and their telephone lines close at 13:00. Yet the domain name was not in the list of accounts due to be renuewed.
And the 24/7 email support was complete incompetance even asking us to send them our login email and password to access the account. How unprofessional is that!
Compila is a complete waste of time and anyone who things they should use them because they are cheap is a fool! As soon as we get our DNS records changed we are our of there.
Server hacked on regular occasions. Even a simple HTML page with no scripts was hacked. 0 support. DNS changes almost impossibe. Uptime poor. DO NOT USE.
I have only been with compila for 4 days, but already I have cause for complaint. After registering a domain and purchasing hosting from them on their website, I found that I had been charged 3 times the amount I should have been. I clearly recall on submitting the transaction there was a warning not to click the submit button more than once, otherwise you will be charged again.. I obviously heeded this advice. On querying the overcharging, I was told that I had clicked the back button a couple of times, and was billed additionally each time I clicked it. As a web programmer myself, this seems to be poorly programmed. The representative I spoke to was patronising and unhelpful, responding with comments like 'well.. it does say on there...'. I don't recall seeing the warning. In any case, the fact that your order is duplicated by clicking the back button is incredibly naff. Add to this the fact that my refund will take up to 30 days, I am far from impressed. As for the actual product itself, I have had no problems. It was straightforward to set up and there have been no technical issues thus far. That said, with first impressions are not good. I do not recomend compila.
I would not recommend Compila hosting to anyone. I first signed up to them 4 years ago with my very first website, purely because they were the cheapest I could find. Over the years I have stupidly had a few different sites signed up with them, one of which (a client's site) is still with them.
Over the years they have tried to charge me to upgrade PHP versions, even when my version was waay out of date and I had paid to have my site upgraded recently. Eventually they agreed to do this for free, but told me my site was in violation on their terms of service.
Upon studying their terms of service closely I found a clause which prevents you from uploading any files larger than 1MB. Compila are the only hosts I know which do this, and it makes them unusable for the vast majority of my purposes.
In the past few years there have been two hacks to my site. The first one they told me was a server hack at their end, the second they claim was a guessed password, which seems unlikely from the level of password security I maintain for my sites.
Their prices are cheap, but this is irrelevant given you can get 50 times the web space with better features from a more reliable company for about 5GBP extra per year if you do some market research.
They say their bandwidth is unmetered, but there is still a monthly limit which I believe they failed (at my time of my signing up) to mention before signup.
All through this I have contacted Compila support many times. Their responses range from friendly to blunt, bordering on rude, and for more complex problems/queries you will bounce a few emails back and forth before getting the answer you need. Sometimes their answers are worded confusingly, patronisingly, or are just irrelevant.
I've hosted more than 50 sites with Compila over the past few years, including my own.
I've got hosting elsewhere with another 5 hosting companies.
Compila are very competitive on price, especially on more advanced packages with databases etc.
But the support is wonderful. There is no comparison with the others I use. Everything is addressed quickly, the uptime is by far the best - well over 99%, when there are glitches they really know their stuff and get it sorted fast.
Their downside is sales or general enquiries, these can let them down. But I would rather wait for a pricing query to be delayed than something that affects uptime or the running of the site.
I found terrible customer support. I dont live in the UK, and so my only choice of contact was via email. 5 emails sent and 0 answers is not a good record.
Well, they're okay, but don't expect them to update your php version without charging you, even though your ver of php is 2 years out of date and you last updated your account 1 year ago.
