The service is ok unless you get in to trouble. There hosting prices are ok. But there customer service is customer NO-SERVICE. Very bad and no help at all. Also the server would jame at least one a month. After 5 year with them i had to leave. My server kept jaming every 10 minutes they did not help repair the problem and did nothing to help for two weeks . Finaly to add insult to injury they said I had to pay $150 an hour to repair the server, or just go get another server. Well thats what it did but not with EV1. I when with Hostmonster. |

Everything goes ok until you have a problem with these guys. I can't even begin to tell you the hair-pulling steps I needed to go through to have server work performed. Mistakes pile up upon mistakes. Their Server Command console is a litany of bugs. Talking to tech support is like working with 5th graders.
Even when cancelling it took me 1 hour to complete. I could not change my billing email address in the control panelb(the old one was outdated) After taking 15 minutes to scan through their interface to find out WHERE to cancel my account, when I did so I had to agree to terms that I would call to confirm within 48 hours the 800 number sent in the email. The email never came because the wrong email was in the system! Three trouble tickets later and four calls, (the first couple calls I was put on hold & disconnected) I finally got through to cancellations dept.
Oh yes, and one time when we needed a data drive rescue (ie. where they restore your operating system and slave the old data drives if you have major server problem -- virus or hack) they completely replaced our drives and claimed we did not request the drives slaved in the ticket (despite the fact that the first tech recommended the solution to us in the first place)! Finally they found our old RAID drives and slaved them (it appears the tech people did not initially know how to slave the drives because the data was striped across 5 drives.) We had to beg these guys for three days to get our missing data back! (However, the machine we got restored to was a slower single CPU machine -- were paying for a Dual 3 GHz Xeon box.)
As I said everything is fine with these guys price wise / uptime-wise so long as you don't need any tech support. |

We've had a server with these for at least 3 years, the were called RackShake when we joined them.
Because our server is old we are looking to upgrade and any good business will assess whatelse is available before deciding if to stay with the current host or not, so that's how I found this site and why I'm writing this now.
We have a few domains hosted on this server. A Online shop using OSCommerce which get a lot of traffic and last year we hosted a computer games forum on there witout any degrade in performance.
To be fully honest any problems I've had with the server have been of my own making. I seem to recall one or two days when the server went down but that's to be expected from any host. The good thing is the support staff are willing and more then able to help, they also have a well informed customer forum for those tweeks and other advice. If you have an issue you can also contact the top man in person he has his own email address available to customers. Sure it's filtered but how many other companies do this.
They seem a honest company too, I'm based in the UK and they (USA) notified me that I can get a tax refund and provided the forms and process means to do that.
On my search I've found cheaper yes but so far none as cheaper that can also fill me with enough confidence to change hosts of my online shop. This is a pity as really I would like to cut down the hosting costs in a time when business is not that good. So you see if the is one as good and cheaper I want to find it.

Full Disclosure: our system is now in its 10th hour of being offline.
My experience has been overall that if things are going well then things are peachy, when there's a fire in the barn all the rats scatter.
Generally support is easy to reach but combersome as you cannot actually speak to anyone working on your system but instead your choices are to either speak to a customer service rep or submit feedback on your trouble ticket. It is alot like calling the IRS in that you always get a different person and everyone has to 'review your ticket' only to come to the same conclusion; that you have to continue to submit trouble ticket edits until resolution is reached.
On top of that your support ticket gets handed from person to person (I'm on my 8th individual) which leads to wasted time and inconsistent approaches to your problem. This may work for run of the mill issues but when the sh.. is hitting the fan you need to speak with those folks that can offer advice, present options concisely and clearly and then act on your decision immediately.
My current trouble ticke arrose from a simple RAM upgrade which was performed by someone that, it turns out, did not understand the software running on my server which lead to a mis-diagnosis of a problem whose proposed solution was drastic (replace the entire box) when the reality is that what was wrong was the KERNEL used with my software needed to be upgraded along with the RAM. So instead of obtaining the proper KERNEL from my software provider EV1 technicians attempted to switch my box out for another which then added another problem because the licence for my software was unique to the box!
My suggestion, if you have the most basic hosting needs with standard web hosting and no sophisticated software requirements EV1 would be fine but if you have unique needs for configuration or software go elsewhere, EV1 just does not have the technical support setup to offer the kind of service level that you'll appreciate when things get going sideways. |

So far they have been great. No issue that I didn't cause myself by getting too deep into linux configs, and even then they were VERY helpful and quick to get me back up and running. The level of support, and the fact that their IP blocks are not blacklisted by any spam fighting group, makes me a very satisfied customer. |

As our server is down at this moment, I can't really think of anything good to say. Even the lower price is nothing compared to the loss of client-trust we've suffered because of EV1. However one thing I will say for them, is that I truly do not believe that every EV1 client has had our bad luck.
2004-Nov motherboard goes, down for 12 hours
2005-Jan-1 harddriver goes, down for 3 days
2005-Jan-5 some problem with Ensim and again restored to Jan 1 state erasing everything changed since then
2005-March Some IP problem causes some DNS problem where server is up, but domain names don't resolve (on going!!!)
I did a caluldation, and we've been recived only about 97.5% uptime over the last 6 month. If that's enough for you then go for them... otherwise keep shopping around.

Excellent Prices. You better keep a backup of your data. Servers sometimes crash. Maybe because they use clones (thats why they're so cheap). But anyway they offer other things that make them a great hosting resource. |
