Verdict : I have one site that is on shared hosting and also a VPS account. I have always found the support to be very quick to respond to any call for help and they deal with all issues straight away. The live help is very good and if the problem is beyond their level of expertise they will issue the support ticket for you. You are never left in limbo. I get just as good a service on the "shared" hosting as I do on the VPS account. I found them very helpful in the setting up of that account and pleased to answer my novice questions. On the rare occasion that I have goofed they have sorted things out for me. They are always very pleasant to deal with and nothing seems to phase them. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to other users and have done so on many occasions. The only place they could improve I think would be in a reduction of costs as there is hosting available now with more disc space and bandwidth for less money. Would that cause me to move? No way as I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" I note that some reviews on shared hosting talk about account suspensions for excessive server resources usage. Well my site is very image intensive and it has never happened to me.
Anyone setting up an account with these folks will not be disappointed.

Verdict : I had my website hosted by hostforeweb for over 4 years and saw their service drop form stellar to absolutely horrible, forcing me to seek out a new hosting company.

I don't know where to begin with how disappointed I was with them.

Their mailervers went down almost every two weeks until I finally hired a third party to handle my mailing lists.

When I had problems, their tech support was so incompetent that I often would have to ask the tech support for my message boards look into the hostforweb problems to tell me how to tell HFW tech support how to fix it.

Once, they suspended my account without prior notice and accused me of using the website to spread spam. I had to instruct tech support on how to read the header of the offending email to show that it was spoofed and not from my website.

The first time their server hosting our site was hacked it was through, according to their own words, "An old and well known bug in Cpanel". When I asked them why this "old and well known" security problem hadn't been patched or updated they told me to "ask the Cpanel developers". So you see, the fact that they are funning outdated and unpatched versions of cpanel, it's the developers of Cpanel's fault.

The final straw that made me find a new host was the last time their server hosting my site was hacked. Again, a script kiddie exploited a security loophole in the outdated and unpatched version of apache they were running. The difference this time was that after I alerted them to the fact that my users were being attacked a trojan virus it took ten days (9 of which I was unable to upload any files)before they would even acknowledge that the server had been compromised. When they finally did see the problem, they accused me of being responsible and suspended my account until I fixed the problem. Luckily, my new webhost was ready to roll just a few hours later. No problems since I changed hosts.

On a final note: I started with a 10 dollar a month account. Even though I wasn't using the maximum resources allotted to my account, they claimed that I needed to upgrade to a Virtual Private Server. I barely used the resources on the VPS and continued to have problems. Again, they suggested a dedicated server. I was paying $169 a month for worse service than I have now at my new host for $20 dollars a month.

In short, Hostforweb is the worst webhost I could ever imagine. In 2003, they were the best.

Verdict : Had my site on shared hosting for a number of months and site kept getting suspended (even by ACCIDENT). Tech suggested that my MINORITY hobby website with a forum and no more than 10 to 15 people online, was lagging the server out, and suggested I upgrade to VPS. I did this, and the 5 weeks I have been on VPS, the account has been set up totally incorrectly. The migration was a disaster, and the live help been worse then useless. Sysadmin were very helpful though. More screwups ensued meaning that various aspects of the site, such as email weren't functioning, and the reply was that they had 'tweaked mysql!!!' Live chat TOO SLOW and responses were textbook unhelpful and even rude at one point. Steer clear.

Verdict : I've had HostForWeb for a number of years and in the last year there service has gone down the tube. In particular, they have no idea how to run a mail server. My users have complaints every 2 weeks of lost messages (both sent and received), downtime, and webmail being offline.

I've opened more tickets then I can remember and most of the time I spend hours convincing them that they have a problem. On multiple occassions they claim messages being lost is the fault of another mail server until I show them proof its happened for a dozen messages accross all different servers. Once I've gone through the agony of convincing them its their problem I usually get the response, and if you go with them you'll hear it too, "There was a server that was having trouble earlier but we reset it so it should be fixed". I've learned over the years that what it really means is "We have no clue what happened, but please leave us alone", because 9 times out of 10 its not fixed.

On one hand the 24/7 technical support is good, but its frustrating when the majority of the people you talk to cannot help (most of the time the live support tells me to go open a ticket), only to be given the 5th degree to prove they are screwing up, and finally to never be told what was wrong or be sure its really fixed.

Worse then all of this though is that because its not 100% down, you never know what you lost. I've lost dozens of messages that I later found out I needed and/or received messages that were delayed up to 24 hours on the hostforweb servers. All I can say is that they have no clue what they are doing when it comes to hosting mail.

Verdict : I have a VPS 10GB,300GB, HFW have a very good support, there is no problem that they are resolved. Comfortable service. If you think that you are expert, you are wrong Level 3 Support is the best. You have to know that a VPS it is not a unlimited resources machine, therefore take care what you are planning to run in a VPS. Virtuozzo Uptime is ever near to 100%. HFW is a big deal. Top 1 support team: Frederick(level 3),Boris(level 3), Luc (level 3),Michael,Joshua,etc. My VPS uptime is also near to 100%, 99.99. Network perfomance is very good too. I recommend HFW because it is a serious company,REAL 24/7 support ticket system, average response email is 2 minutes !, REAL 24/7 LIVE CHAT.
Note, first if you are planning to run a Linux VPS, or you are planning to resell, fell free to install SUSE LINUX 10(the best desktop linux) in your PC and in your VPS selects CentOS.
Finally, thanks to HFW team. I am very happy with your services.

Verdict : Their support is an absolute disaster. They never read their emails fully. I always have problems going back and forth with them on a subject that they failed to read. They are definitely not a good group of support people. Because of lack of proper support I am going to move my site somewhere les because I am really fed up with them.

Verdict : Terrible experience. I signed up for a webhost because I thought it would be more reliable than just hosting it out of my workroom on the broadband. Boy was I wrong. On a weekly basis I have to put up with an outage of some sort, often I have to contact tech support. Usually e-mail related, which for me is vital. Web pages mysteriously dissapear (customers getting a message that "no website is configured at this address"), e-mail won't send, e-mail can't be checked, and most damaging of all, e-mail that just dissapears into a black hole, no bounce message to the sender to indicate it has to be resent, nothing in the inbox. Hostforweb has cost me business because of e-mails I never got and customers thinking I'm ignoring them. I'm switching to Lunarpages, I set up my church with Lunarpages and they've had a wonderful experience. It's even marginally cheaper, though it doesn't feature the multiple domain hosting.

Verdict : I was initially so happy with the service from HostForWeb as it was cheap and seemed to be quite well reviewed. They are cheap because they are cutting corners with the servers. For example, you can find the mail server is down at least 3 times a week because of overload.

Try to post on their forums and they will delete the post if negative. This is pure cencorship.

I will not be renewing my service with them unless they sort out the downtimes.

Verdict : I moved several of my client sites to HostForWeb after my previous host kept getting blacklisted. I thought going to a VPS would be the best way to prevent "shared hosting blacklisting".

In the beginning, I was very pleased with HFW. They helped me migrate several sites usng the Cpanel/WHM functions. All was well until I was notified by one of my clients that they couldn't send any email to Comcast addresses. Their emails were getting bounced due to a Comcast blacklist.

I thought "oh no, here we go again". I reported the problem to HFW and they sent a blacklist removal request to Comcast. By Tuesday, the problem was cleared up.

The following weekend, the same problem happened again. When HFW inquired to Comcast, they were told that Comcast does not have any record of my server IP address. But again, the problem cleared up by Tuesday.

Weekend #3 - Problem resurfaces
Tuesday #3 - Problem resolved

Weekend #4 - Problem resurfaces
Tuesday #4 - Problem resolved

Weekend #5 - Problem resurfaces

This time, when I reported the problem to HFW, the support technician basically called me and my clients "spammers" and said they couldn't do anything.

I was (and am) HIGHLY OFFENDED by this treatment. I am a reputable owner of a web design business and most of my clients are non-profits, such as churches. I would know if I or my clients were spamming and trust me, we ARE NOT spammers!

(As a side note, I checked my server's IP against all the blacklists and it came out completely clean.)

I cannot stress enough to STAY AWAY FROM HOSTFORWEB. A horrible, horrible, frustrating experience.

Verdict : Within 5 minutes I had to close my account with this company. My account was created with some adult website name.

First when I filled up the order form, I didn't fillup one field (I thought it is optional). After I click on submit button it says "you forgot some fields, fill all the values". When I click on back button, everything is gone. Start again.

Again I filled up every thing, and finally they created my account with a adult website name. When I sent them an email, he says I have to register that website name.

I had chat with them. Another support guy says that he is very senior person. So, just imaging this company... Never go there...

Verdict : I've been with HostForWeb for 3 years (This is my 36th months) with them. I have nothing but good things to tell about this company.

Their prices are extremely competitive. Price-wise, it's hard to
beat. In my early days with them, I really worried that HostForWeb
may not exist in a year or so from then because I thought the
price was too low to be viable as business. I no longer worry that
because the past three years with them is more than enough.

During my three years with them, they increased the resource that
I buy as a reseller twice without raising their fees. That is,
I started with a reseller package with 1GB disk space 3 years ago.
Then, they made it 2 GB after 12 months or so. Now, I get 5 GB
for the same low price ($25/mon).

Since I take care of 20 or so customers whose web sites, I have
been looking for alternative to HostForWeb so that when something
goes wrong (e.g., HostForWeb go under), I will be able to find
a new reseller. Our prices to my customers have to be sufficiently
high for the alternate hosting company's fee structure. But,
it has been quite difficult to find hosting companies that are
even close to what HostForWeb charges.

In the past few days, I searched a lot of hosting companies and
I even paid the initial fee to a company who turned out to be
a fraud. When it comes to low-price companies, most of them
seem to be fraud. HostForWeb is very real. To test if a
company is real, all you need to do is try to contact the tech
support at odd hours such as 3:00 am. Most companies who
advertise 24/7 support must be reached any time. HFW is real.
I'm a happy customer (not a shill). I just want to spread the
good word.

Verdict : Account terminated because my website was too busy. no scripts were used and the site was within the bandwidth limit. the hosting was good until my site became more popular, so maybe if you have a low traffic website you should consider using them. I would have appreciated an email before they suspended my account as thousands of customers saw the message "account suspended". Some customer support people are extremely rude, but most are pretty good.
