Thankyou to all of the other reviewers on this site who confirmed my choice to move to Gator. We moved from a very poor host and I cannot believe how simple the transition was along with the assistance to transfer our database to our new host. All i've to say..this is the first time i've ever left a review for a host but i'm not going to lie...HostGator is pretty much on their "game"...customer service 24/7 live help, support ticket blah blah...very patient...i've only been with the host for a short while but i'm pretty impress...congrats HostGator
i just signed up for hostgator vps and they had me up in literally five minutes!! they answer their phones and there is no press #2 for blah, blah....a guy just answers! also, i had to upload some files and what to 3 hours to upload via ftp on godaddy took 15 min on my vps. i have never been so impressed with a hosting co in my LIFE! hostgator is awesome!

As with all hosting companies you should make sure to check their backup policy. It is not automatic so get in the habit of doing your own ftp backups from time to time.
I have never had a question that they did not answer immediately.
I've been using HG for a while now, 4 years and I would never use anyone else. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine owns his own hosting site and said I could use his for free, but I declined and stayed with HG!
Their support is amazing, friendly, and never make you feel "stupid" like some others. Even their forum members are EXTREMELY helpful when it comes to learning the ins and outs of this CPanel and hosting stuff. I have no complaints at all.
Addt'l Info: I'm on a shared server, using the "baby" plan, paying monthly.
Overall, I like HostGator. They are waaaay better than the previous host I had. That company started off great, but got to 60%+ downtime. I never have that problem with HG.
My two big hang ups with HG are:
1. new customers get a 20% discount, while loyal customers get nothing except the bill at the end of their term; and
2. no elgg support or hosting on their shared/reseller hosting.
Other than that, they are great. Still, I am shopping for someone who will give me my cake and let me eat it, too.
I am generally very happy with Hostgator. I worked for a company a few years back who used them exclusively, and now I have since moved on and begun using them for my personal and client's sites as well.
I do have a problem, though, and it's a pretty major one for anyone who has multiple sites/packages under one account.
Being that I have multiple sites on my account, some I own and some I have for clients, when billing comes it all falls under one umbrella. I have no problem with this, except that if one service does not pay one month (a client doesn't send payment etc) ALL of my packages are effected.
I just discovered this out, as I set up a new hosting plan on my account and paid for it. (Of course, they took the money). Without any word, two days passed and the server was never setup. They essentially just ignored it once they were paid. I questioned them, and received a timely response (they are very good getting back to people once you submit a ticket) that they couldn't add a new package until the other was paid up.
This does not make sense to me as I believe they should be separate entities. All are invoiced individually every month, one should have no effect on another. Now, I have one site that will not make it up on time, because another was never paid.
I am so glad I made the choice of HostGator when I picked a hosting company almost 2 years back. The prices are great, they have free templates, tutorials, everything. The online chat support is fantastic and 24/7! I cannot tell you how helpful it is to have access to it at 4AM. Amazing host! GO WITH THEM!
PS. On a side note, get your domains from somewhere else. Hostgator charges $15 on average/year and you can get a lot cheaper elsewhere and then host the sites through HostGator. Good luck!
I moved all of my sites that were on a VPS account with another company over to HostGator about 6 weeks ago and my experience comparing the two companies has been like night and day. System performance seems consistently fast, tech support is awesome whether by email, chat, phone or posting to their support ticket system. One thing to note: If you get support via email or their ticket system, a different tech will answer each exchange - you are not communicating with the same person each time. I figured out that I need to provide all of the details of the issue on my initial message because if a tech has to read through 2-3 messages to get the whole story, important details have to be passed on a second time. Once I started doing that, things have gone smoothly. Tech support even helped me get a CGI script working that I moved over from another hosting company. These folks are very willing to help and don't talk to you like you are an idiot as my last hosting company did. I would definitely recommend HostGator.
I have been hosting 3 websites with Hostgator for a year now and have never had a single problem with them. When I have questions their customer service answers them promptly. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for worry-free reliable inexpensive hosting.
I was surprised to see hostgator listed at position no 5 on the list. They are excellent. I've had 2 downtimes and both of those were fixed fairly rapidly. The support guys generally know their stuff as well which is a big bonus for us as most of the technical questions we throw at them have revolved around e-commerce solutions etc. Would I choose them again even though they are sligthly more pricier than the competition on dedicated servers, most definitely.
After some terrible experiences with other hosting companies I found HostGator in April of 2008 and I couldn't be happier. Setup was a breeze and it's been smooth sailing since then. This is what a hosting service is supposed to be. Highly recommended.
In addition to good pricing, uptime and support, HostGator also provides a very nice control panel with a large list of functions some of which cost extra at other hosting companies.
I have recommended HostGator to all my clients as well as anyone that has been looking for an excellent web host. I am a web systems developer and have uncommon requirements for my hosting needs. HostGator has not only been able to assist but also did so in a very timely manner. Though sometimes my issues went far beyond the abilities of the Chat or Phone support, the technicians were able to handle my request or issue within an hour or two. HostGator concerns themselves with the needs, security and satisfaction of there customers. Pricing is outstanding for what they offer, this is not a cheap site, it is an inexpensive one. You get what you pay for and then some with HostGator.

I began with HostGator when all I needed was a simple vanity page. Then I added a busy phpBB forum. Since then, I've upgraded my hosting package and began hosting video and other multimedia content.
For over 2 years I have been delighted with their hosting and support. (Believe it or not, support is actually kind.)
Had tehm for years now.. no issues, tech support is a breeeze, quick and knowledgable.
I have reseller accounts and regular hosting account with Host Gator, and it has been the best host I have ever used.. and recommended other people to it as well.
Host Gator is Awesome! I normally don\'t leave reviews for companies but they are just that good that I have to rate them and let you all know! I am a complete newbie to building a website. I have asked them for help on a daily basis for the last two and a half weeks! They have responded very quickly and fixed all my problems - even the ones that I caused. Site Studio and Soholaunch are easy to use and I have used both! Never any downtime! Need I say more!
Excellent webhosting company, uptime 100%, fast support team, fast servers, Cpanel, price is higher than other companies, but because they are EXCELLENT.
I would mention that they are rigid on system resources usage .. so if your site is big they may suspend your account like what happened with me. I'm thinking to move to their dedicated servers now.
These guys are really exceptional! Just look at what everyone else is saying! I already had a domain name so i just needed it transfered and it literallytook 5 MINUTES to have my DNS switched over and my site working! Just brilliant! If i ever needd tech help (as i a newbie) they were on live chat within minutes and were so riendly and helpful!
they let you pay PER MONTH and there is no set up fee so the pricing is icreadible! My site has never been down or slow and i have had NO prob with them at all.

I can't say enough good things about hostgator other than a dumb name. They are the best in their class hands down. I hope they stay this way and don't end up like the others when they get crowded. throughput is literally 10X (800KBs on average down and 300KBs up) what other hosts actually give you on a day to day basis. customer service is top notch. I intentially created a couple of situations that were not usually tackled by support staff because it dealt with custom database software. both techs came though with flying colors. they went above and beyond the call by actually looking at the code and database settings in the control pannel. They even import databases for you if you ask so you don't have to use the phpadmin that always times out.
Excelent company. They sold me when they let me try it out for $.01 for a month with no contract. Did I mention it's fast :)
I have been with HostGator for about a year and I can say that their support is outstanding, quick answers with intelligent responses. Needless to say I have had to contact them on a several occasions and I have never been kept waiting.
So when the hosting provider of our company website, uh disappeared (that's the only way to describe it since we attempted calling them for weeks) I recommended HostGator to my boss and we went forward.
The techs at HostGator walked me through what to do so as to make our transition as painless as possible. I would STRONGLY recommend HostGator to anyone that is setting up a website.
I've been with Hostgator.com for more than a year and so far I'm very happy. I know from personal experience that their chat support is online 24/7 and I personally use it quite alot. It's satisfying to be able to quickly handle the technical side of hosting my site and remain focussed on improving the content. More 'heavy duty' support issues are handled via email and I have always received a reply within 24 hours. Usually it's within a couple of hours.
If Hostgator keeps it up the way they have for the past year I'm definitely staying. BTW, I actually tried hosting a couple of sites at PolurNET, but I really missed the chat support at Hostgator (I am admittedly impatient :-). To me the hosting experience with Hostgator is more personal and that extra level of service is easily worth the few extra bucks.
we just moved form blue host to Host Gator about 2 month ( because our content). We nerver had any down time at all with host Gator , I upload alot of files to to server and nerver had disconnect .
The price just a litlle bit higher than other host out there , but you paid what you get for .
Overall, very pleased. Great support with fast responses in both live support or through email (tickets). My site is almost always up (9 minutes downtime last month -- up for about 99.98% of the time). I plan to stay put with HostGator.
Brilliant - I moved some 1&1 domains over and have started some new ones .
The control panel seemed a little daunting and techie at first, but it's fine when you get used to it.
Support - excellent - live help and I have always been happy at the end.
These guys have been wonderful! - A great change when I was in a bind because my previous provider (canaca.com = evil) kept going down. They helped me get things up and running QUICK, and I had most of my email and websites transferred over to their reseller account package in less than an afternoon (30+ sites total). The only thing they don't/didn't offer that I would have liked to see was ssh access to the server for debugging/coding purposes... but hey, for what it's costing me I am MORE THAN HAPPY with their service, and knock-on-wood no downtime at all yet, (been about one month now).
I have been with host gator for nearly 1 month, what can i say, they are simply unbeleivable. I had confusion with multiple accounts but the customer service sorted that out easily. I would recommend this host to anyone looking for relible, bargain based host that are simply the best.

I bought a resale package from them early this year
I had some minor trouble with a server issue (something to do with mail() and some other functions not working)
I spoke to Support
and they were like, yea yea, ok whatever
and nothing got sorted
I asked for my refund and cancelled within the 30 day money back offer
3 months later, we find that they took the money of the credit card, and never put it back on.
When I spoke to someone to ask what happened, they said
According to your email, you wanted to cancel your policy, You never asked for a refund so we didn't refund you
Who the hell would NOT want a refund for over 200 USD
Her attitude was as if it was normal
So if you get a server with no issues,
You never need to speak to tech
and You dont request a refund

The reliability is excellent, but they were arrogant in their support replies, after I made a few tickets on some issue I was keep experiencing. I moved away for my own good, but still recommend it if you don't mind the somewhat abrupt responses
I've been with HostGator for nearly 8 months after migrating from CredibleHost. So far they have been excellent. I've had to contact support a few times and on all occassions my questions was answered very promptly.
Hope everything keeps going the same way and I do not have problems like what I've had with some other hosts.

I've been with Hostgator for just a few weeks. I used to run my forums on a VPS, but that was just not what I wanted. I choose Hostgator because they had very good reviews all over the internet, and whenever I visited their site, the live help was online. Great!
The pricing is very good, especially for what you buy for it. Enough space and bandwidth and the servers are powerful enough for my forums, even when there are 30 people online.
I especially like the emailsupport team. They give a more complete answer to technical questions then the Live help. I've mailed a few questions and one was answered within 24 hours, and the others within 2 hours. That's good..!
My forummembers are all from The Netherlands, EU but no one has ever complained about slowness because the servers are located in the US. HostGator is just a good webhosting company!

I think you can't find a better company than hostgator, always there for you, I've been with hostgator since last 2+ years, I was a tiny host earlier, and with their quality of service/support iam able to expand to 2 Dedicated servers and couple of Reseller accounts, I was not a expert with hosting but they helped me in every issue, and all with a smile.
Tried their support even at 3A.M. and support tech was their to solve a apache issue in a minute.
Till date never found any of their staff dis-respecting customer in mails(many other hosts have this habbit), how complex a issue may be its handled with a smile, with that said, its certainly a host if you want to GROW, or go ahead and sign up with some crow.
One of the best hostings I've had the chance to test. Incredibly cheap, especially for all they offer (huge webspace, unlimited parked domains and MySQL databases...). Online support always available, very helpful, kind and above all quick! You often receive an answer a couple of minutes after you submited your question. I never had any problems with them, other than occasional downtime (always less than a few minutes).
I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants an excellent service for a more than acceptable price.
I've had hosting in England for the past 5-6 years but that company had been bought by one company and then by another and gradually their service deteriorated and their original support team guys(who were excellent) all went elsewhere.. I'd been looking around for a new host and got recommended a few and then found a hostgator review in this very same site and migrating to them as we speak and not looking back :)
They have the online support option which is great but sending them a mail is often better and they will reply within one hour if not a half hour and they'll fix your problem fast! I'd been trying to get a PHP class installed and working and was having problems, my previous host wouldn't help with anything they hadn't installed themselves and would always ask for money before they'd help anyway I mailed hostgator support and they kept at the problem until it was solved... recommended :)
I've tried a few hosting companies but HostGator beats them all. I actually was really surprised.
Servers have very good performance. Comparing to all other hostings I've tried, PHP pages are processing 2-3 times faster, even faster than on my localhost P4-3Gz which is unusual for a shared web server.
No problems with downtime. During almost a year my site never was down for more than a few minutes.
HDD Space and bandwidth. For 10$ they give you 5GB space and 75GB bandwidth.
Unlimited parked domains. You may have as many sites as you want on one hosting plan. I, for example, have 3 separated sites on my 10$-plan.
Unlimited emails, MySQL databases.
Cpanel.
Good support. I completely satisfied with their online and email support.
The only thing I wish they have is SSH. I think they provide it temporary by your request though.
I wrote a truthful and accurate review for Website Source, which is a nominal host at best who used to be good. Nevertheless, I am not the kind of person to give all 1's or all 5's for no good reason. I am a web developer and have hosted and have worked with a great number of websites over the years. Currently I have only one client on Hostgator (on the Baby Shared plan) but I certainly plan on putting any new client with them as well. Their servers are unbelievably fast. Their service is fantastic. Click on the live chat and see -- just SEE if you don't get someone immediately. I dare you. The price is unbelievable for what you get. Their dedicated servers might seem pricey in comparison to some other dedicated servers, but in all honestly, they are far far cheaper than any of the other dedicated server companies in their class. (Rackspace, EV1, etc etc)
The reason for their good quality servers I believe is in the fact that they lock the servers down a little. No SSH on any shared server account. Sorry. But that is a small price to pay for the performance and reliability.
The only thing I can say about them that I wish they had is I wish they had a VPS solution as well. But given the fact that their shared Baby 9.95 hosting solution is so incredibly comprehensive, and they offer unlimited domains, there's almost no reason to go with a VPS. I could gush for a while. Like I said, I push these servers hard and really know when to appreciate a good hosting company.

After shopping around for different hosting services, I settled on HostGator based on what I've read on web hosting jury. I have to say I have not been disappointed. HostGator has excellent service - both customer and technical. I always get directly connected to their support services when I need help. I've never had to wait longer than 30 seconds. I also love their plans. 5GB of space, 75GB bandwidth, unlimited domains, 24/7 service. It is actually well more than enough for the 11 domains I currently have with my hosting plan.
Great Host. Customer Support is always fast and helpful. Also quite reliable. If you are tired and frustrated of other hosts playing around with you, including me, I would highly recommend HostGator.

They're cheap - I couldn't find 5 gigs anywhere else for $10/month, and they offer more features than any of the "big guys." I need to have a lot of streaming multimedia, and it's no problem with them! Lots of users logging in, lots of e-mail accounts. It's great!
You get unlimited e-mails, can host unlimited domains on one account, unlimited sub-domains, mysql, fantastico ... seriously, if you want it, you probably get it!
I was with GoDaddy.com before. They SUCK!!! Sure, they're cheap, but you don't get much space. They even tried to tell me what mailing list services I was "allowed" to use to send newsletters to my OWN employees and contractors who were using the e-mail addresses I had PAID EXTRA for through them. Pathetic! If you're running a business ... stay the heck away from GoDaddy. They think they have a right to tell you how to run it. If you like being respected, and receiving lots of useful extras, stick with HostGator!

HostGator has been a good host. Sure there have been some server problems, but HostGator always refunds me for downtime, and does a lot better job of letting people know what's going on than other hosts do.
HostGator is awesome! Pay the extra money for their services. Their online support is always available to help if you have a problem. As soon as I had a question I went on and had an answer in under 5 seconds. Absolutely phenominal. Was previously with Xanthion Hosting but was treated VERY rudely. I will never use another hosting company. Do yourself a favor and save a lot of hassle, get an account with HostGator.
I was recommended to go to hostgator by a friend of mine, who had been hosting with a company I was with. He told me, Ken, they have actual 24/7 live support. I personally didn't believe him, but they do.
I did have a little bit of trouble with one of the technicians, but not because they didn't try.
but last night, I couldn't get something to work on my site and it was 2:00 a.m. and tech support 'monica' stayed with me on the live chat until we had it hammered out.
I will come back and do a followup on this in a month or so.

I am very satisified with Hostgator. I came over from a bad experience with 2 other companies and was really concerned. They answered all my questions fast and strived to help. Never had any major problems with the service and very little downtime that I am aware of.
I've been with hostgator for 5 months now. I'm on my computer at least 70 hours a week and hostgator support is always logged in for chat support. I have only had one instance of downtime and it was for about minutes. When I IM'd support they were there and got my sites back up in no time. The service is excellent the speed and reliabillity of the servers is awesome and the price is more than reasonable, I wont be looking for a new host any time in the fore seeable future.

Probably one of the most open and honest hosts I have worked with. The team at HostGator do try to satisfy and as the few problems I have experienced have been quite minor and rectified effectively then I feel they offer good value for money.
Overall price to value ratio is hard to beat. Performace is excellent, twice as fast as last host on both upload and download. Just ping their domain and compare with some others. Reliability has been very good. There have been a few occurences of downtime, but they were brief (at least on our server) and support is usually quick to respond. Speaking of support, it is usually very good in terms of email or phone, but don't try to use chat support, you'd probably be disappointed with that as I believe it is outsourced to others. Give them a try, you will probably be glad you did. If you're not, they have a money back guarantee for 30 days I belive and they actually do stand behind the 99.9% uptime with a full refund of the months fee if they fail to meet it.
Hostgator.com been the greatest host I've ever dealth with. I've had nothing but great experiences and pure satisfaction with them. I would recommend Hostgator to anyone who is looking for reliable and affordable web hosting.
My two sites have been on one of their servers for over a year now. Personally I couldn't ask for much more out of a host. The server has been stable, with just a few short downtimes caused by attacks or malfunctioning scripts (nothing that they could prevent).
All such situations were dealt with properly, in a timely manner. I only needed to contact support (live on MSN) on those special occasions to ask what was happening. Otherwise the server was working fine so I had no reason to contact them for server related problems.
I remember that I did send an email to support once and I got an email back in some 5 minutes. Even though I didn't actually asked something out of them so no actual support was rendered (I was just trying to contact the owner) I remember that I was quite impressed by the timely answer.
In all, I'm very happy with the service. If things continue like this I see no reason why I would ever need to go with another host.
After suffering through major downtime with my previous host, I decided to move to a new host, thus I found HostGator. I've only been with them for about two months but so far, the experience has left me satisfied with my decision. I've moved two of my domains wtih their service already. They have an incredibly helpful support system, answering your ticket within 24 hours. They have been reliable and everything you could ask for in a host. I gave them a four because I have only been with them for two months. However, I think I'm finally satisfied with this host and I'm ready to settle in for the next few years.
