Verdict : I had a reseller account with Host M for a year. When the year was getting close to being up I decided to move. I would consider them about average for the most part, but they had a 5-domain limitation where most hosts don't limit you on domains, only drive space and bandwidth, which is much better for a reseller that has different sized clients, or in my case where I am the only "customer" and manage my sites and those of my clients. Additional blocks of domains would make them more expensive for me.

I did have a few issues over the year, but most were resolved without any big problem. Support was generally friendly and professional.

BEWARE OF HOST M. Warning signs:

NO published phone number or business address!
NO way to contact them except via web tickets.
Must sign 2 year contract, with not chance of refund or accountability.

They post incomplete answers to web queries, your only means of communication with them. Very difficult to resolve situation. They blamed interim outages and email disruptions on my ISP. I believe it was their server going bad.

4 days of downtime until they replaced a server. Disrupted hosting and email service, so vital to businesses. Provided scant communications and updates in interim. 4 days is too long. Due to server downtime, they lost 4 days of my prior vital incoming and outgoing emails (due to required IMAP server) and they refused to ‘recover’ them.

Their ‘solution’ to the problem was to arbitrarily ‘close’ job tickets, unsolved.
They even closed down online user forum because there were so many complaints.

They then abruptly TERMINATED my account WITHOUT CAUSE, cut off communications with tech support, and FORCED me to get a new host in 3 days.

They accused me of losing my emails on their IMAP server (impossible to do!) and 12 months of my emails are rendered USELESS because data was not updated or properly retrieved from server before my departure. Only reason I had IMAP not POP3 was because of their server incompatibilities with Verizon (ISP) port 25.

These people do not have a clue how to run a business and provide customer service, especially in crisis. They have blanket contract that limits damages to monthly fees!
Their practices must be against common business practices and the law, given the mission critical business they are in. Don’t be tempted by the great price & features.



Host M is not a wise choice. STAY CLEAR! If I knew then what I knew now I would have steered clear. Got them from listserv posting. Have had them for 16 months with intermittent server problems and irregularities, email incompatibilities with Venison and Thunderbird. But that pales with what happened last week. Server went down Sat Aug. 20 and wasn't restored until Aug 24. Worse is that on Sat. they lost 3 days of prior emails...pretty hard to do on an IMAP server. I alerted them to it. They did NOTHING to attempt to recover critical in and out emails. For some reason, these emails which were 'on' my PC Sat. a.m. ALSO DISAPPEARED without a trace. I tried to give them clues and kept requesting intervention. I was pretty accommodating, considering HOST M PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS FOR 7 days... plus more time until I found a new host and migrated. They 'closed' job ticket without addressing the issues. There was NO other way to connect them.

Verdict : I have a complaint against HOSTM.com.
Beware. HostM.com is NOT reliable, reputable, or reachable.

After their 4 day down time this summer and the loss of 5 days of my time-sensitive, critical incoming and outgoing email messages, they abruptly canceled my hosting service (in its 15th month) within 3 days, WITHOUT CAUSE. It was THEIR mistake and ineptitude in recovery that caused the entire situation.
They did not even try to recover the emails, which should have been on the server. They accused me of losing them, which is impossible due to IMAP server settings.

What's worse, the only contact with the company is via web. There is NO ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER to be found ANYWHERE. If you have contact info, I would appreciate it. I am still trying to recover 12 months of emails that were relegated to IMAP server, because of their INCOMPATIBILITIES with my ISP, Verizon. I did not know that the emails were rendered unusable offline, after my service was abruptly terminated.

Host M's arrogant attitude and improper systems leaves a lot to be desired. The only communication is via the web, and more often than not you wait a day before you get a response, which doesn't completely address your issue.

I want to keep others from falling the same fate. You are forced into a 2 year contact, with no cancellation or recovery. Since I have had to found a new host, I have discovered that Host M's actions and hosting and email and server configurations are far from industry standard.
It should never have taken 4 days to get the server back up and running, especially with all the backup systems they allege to have.
Their response to a problem is to CUT OFF COMMUNICATIONS with individual user and to close online client forum.

No wonder they are no where to be found. Take a look at their terms of service. Very anti-user. Avoid HOST M like the plague.
