I switched to Hurricane Electric after Viaweb crashed & burned. I wanted a simple Unix-based web host where I could do admin and layout via typical Unix tools, and for that they've been great. The few times I've needed tech support they've been very responsive. I've had zero downtime. |

I have had Hurricane Electric for a while and have never had a problem. The only thing I don't like is that they don't offer Ruby or Ruby on Rails with there current hosting plan. Over all I highly recommend it. |

I have had Hurricane Electric (he.net) for many years and in many respects really like them. For one thing, they have rock-solid reliability, and after some experiences with a discount resell host, I am appreciating that more than ever.
But there's only one review of HE and so I think it's important to add to that and flesh out what they're really good at and what they're not really good at.
HE is *really* good, I suspect, at providing rock-solid reliability for their super-subscribers who are technically savvy. But they are *not* as competitive for shared web hosts. HE does not provide, for instance, web management panels like cpanel or auto-installs like fantastico. This is not really a problem for the web-savvy client. But, they also don't provide features like multiple ftp accounts or subdomain names. And, they're not priced competitively for the shared webhosting market. The non-competitive pricing wouldn't be a problem, because they are incredibly reliable, *if* they had competitive services. But the combination of lacking both competitive pricing and competitive services is really deadly for the shared webhosting market.
For other services--colo or dedicated servers -- I suspect HE is fantastic.

I've used them for several years not and they have been quite reliable. Reasonably priced with a full linux shell account, database access and web languages such as PHP.
On the rare occasion where I've had a problem with some aspect of service, they have responded promptly and assisted me in resolving it to my satisfaction quite quickly.
I HIGHLY recommend them
