I picked lycos for the low cost, it ended up more expensive in the end, lots of problems with downtime, accounting (enormous amounts of overcharging). I jumped from shared hosting to VDS in a hope to get rid of the Techincal support failures..didnt change much (still had hardware, network problems), and you still have to deal with the customer support (or lack of it)... |

Web site been down for 3 months - lycos made mistake, now after so many calls - £74-18 cost in total, as they leave you on phone to make money out of you, it comes back online for a week, now they turn it off again, WHY ? because someone from africa sent spam on the lycos host using my domain, this is a problem lycos no is theres due to bad security, my computer was not accessible as off all that day as i was in work.

BUT Lycos still get paid
trust me, there is others as cheap, use them as you will get no where with lycos , cheap and thats all. The employees at lycos appear to have one single brain cell between them, which in my opinion is given to the employee whos turn it is to have a day off that day. I have a tree in my garden that is of a higher IQ than any of there staff, as for problems at server level, well they are based in different country all together and apparently according to customer support they have problems communicating due to language, GREAT HUH
JUST stay well clear of LYCOS the worst hosting on the internet.
They are so bad they should get an award for worlds worst hosting - LYCOS HOSTING |

Strongly advise you not to host with lycos. My search engine listings have dissapeared due to site being down for 19 days in two months. Support is extremely slow, and incompetency appears to be a disease which has spread through the lycos offices infecting all the staff.
It appeared to be reasonably cheep hosting, however when you take in account of unreliability and downtime and the effects this has on your site, ie customers who never return, dropping off searchengines, ( google for instance drops sites very quickly if it can not find you, as do link partners. It takes far longer to get listed on google and infact my site has not fully recovered from last
problem, and its down again, last time for 18 days how long this time.)If you want your site to be unreliable and you enjoy talking to a support team that do not appear to have a single brain cell between them use lycos.
You have been warned use lycos at your peril, cheap hosting do not use lycos |

I'm sorry to say that service with Lycos has been really bad. Due to spam referers I exceeded my monthly bandwidth. My website was closed down by Lycos for the month and the following month so I couldn't access the site to try and block the spam. They then had the gall to try and charge me for the extra bandwidth which I hadn't used.
The helpline usually requires a long wait and the response is usually pretty lackadaisical at best. I'm pretty easy going myself and quite forgiving but this goes beyond the pail. I'm currently looking elswhere and am willing to pay a little more to save me the hours wasted with these loosers. |

Lycos is average for price. Below average for customer support. They take ages to answer e-mail questions. They also have a problem with Spammers using theur service. This has the result that many other ISP's are blocking their smtp servers and therefore if you use their smtp servers to send mail (as you rightly should - you pay for the feature afer all) then chances are it will be blocked form being sent. All being tarred with the same brush is shameful!! |
