Netfirm has been a good hosting company, with a simple and unusual controle panle that is eazy to understand and have everything you need for all your domains at the same place and doesnt force you to go to each domain to manage emails or databases related to the domain you are working with
but ever since they started the migration process everything went buzzerk, they split the accounts into 2 diffrent accoutn , and started migration without conmpleeting it, resulting in having a new controle panle that doesnt give you access to your domains , and the old platform that is not working ,
the old controle panle refuses to log you in and give you message saying that you have been moved to the new platform , and when you try the new platform you get another message saying your accoutn havent been moved yet
the support staff are incompedent and soo many indiveduals are handeling the same problem and everyone does read the problem from the start and they allways insist you never try to contact them before , and are very very narrow minded , they have no assiged person to deal with your accoutn but instead they have a big miss, and they dont know what is going on , and the eazyest thing they say is ( IT IS YOUR FAULT, you never contacted us before ) and they dont even recognize yor hoples attempts to contact them , and my assesment of thier service haqve droped in the last week from "exceplent" into "the worst ever"
Netfirms seems to have gone into the dictionary business. For the past three years they have become the masters of re-defining words such as free, unlimited, included, reliable, premium, up time, downtime, upgrade... the list goes on. With the recent "upgrade" of their service they failed to mention that they were imposing a quota on our "premium" business email accounts. This resulted in an over-quota status, therefore we could no longer receive or send email. As we are using their imap servers, backing up and deleting emails proved to be a logistical nightmare, effectively cutting us off from our clients for 72 hours. A handful of calls to technical support and the shoddy treatment received resulted in our companies decision to fire them as our web host providers.
They are migrating to a new system. I have about 40 websites registered and a hosting account. While consolidating some sites to one account I tried to consolidate some sites that were not on the new system yet, with Netfirms, but on the old system. Customer phone support tells me that the Netfirms person who moved my "older" registered sites to my "newer" account shouldn't have done it. As you move from person to person in what they call phone 'help', it is like you never phoned, you go back on hold and then tell your story again. So I try email 'help'. Now this is where they turn into 'pod people'. There is a place to set a security question on the new system but not that I can find on the old login. So day after day they want me to set a security question but will not tell me where to set it. I've sent them screen shots with me logged into the old and the new account. If they were a modern company they would just give me hosting on the new account and migrate the old account when they want to, but no, the sites are down and they are involved in 'process' not problem solving.
If at all possible, steer clear of the new, unimproved, bought-out version of Netfirms. As I understand it, a formerly Canadian-owned firm which was recently bought out by US multinational has elected to grossly downsize its offering (for the same price) without offering compensation to any of its clients. Watch the tiny clause which says "we can do pretty much anything whenever we want at will" in the contract. I liked the old Netfirms alot, but I was not informed about the downsizing, I discovered it by accident when I stopped receiving business emails for days at a time. Chat "support" was useless. Phoning the customer service was useless; billing could/would not provide any refund for the difference (ie, decrease) in product offering, escalating resulted in "sorry for the inconvenience". It's been a long time (never?) since I've seen this level of disinterest on the part of any kind of service provider.
My page is down for maintenance much more often then it should be. The connection to netfirms for any of my three websites often run very slow. They have been 'transitioning' to a new system and it's only been a burden on my use and frankly I don't know what the hell is going on over there.
I've been using netfirms for about ten years and the last year has been pretty lousy. Time to transition to a new host.
Netfirms was ok when I first started, but my sites got progressively slower and starting a couple weeks ago I discovered malicious code was being injected into my sites. I changed my passwords and checked my computers for viruses, cleaned up the site multiple times and the code kept re-appearing a few hours later. I'm positive the host server has been compromised. Since I only had a couple months of hosting left with them, I switched to hostgator and they've been pretty good since. My sites load way faster now.
Since Netfirms was acquired by Endurance International Group a U.S. company service and reliability have dropped through the floor. The service is completely unreliable both for web hosting and email. Databases are impossibly slow and anything server-side is unstable. I would give it a zero if it was possible. STAY AWAY.
Netfirms were OK once. The automatic renewal payment failed once, they didn't tell us and we lost all our websites and emails which was maddening. Now they have changed their email system and it has crashed all our company email records. The support people claim to have fixed it several times but no joy - it seems you get a different story from each person that replies. The latest is that their new system can't hold our emails. Anybody else have this problem?
The did some sort of "migration" and our site was left down. I'm not an expert in this field and use iweb and my mobile me account. I was glad to speak to customer service. The answered quickly (even at lunch time), were very nice, and solved my issue in about 3-4 minutes. Will stay with Netfirms for some time to come. They will help you stay up!
if i could give them a 0 out of 5 for customer service i would - there is NONE!
my 2 year experience with netfirms was a nightmare - thank GOD for Godaddy. Netfirms is so quick to take your money but will NEVER return an email or service ticket for problems on their end. i had one particular issue with them to which i emailed the manager a minimum of 7 times, posted it 3 times on their facebook support section and another site administrator contacted the manager to which we got ZERO response. Due to their lack of customer support our site was down and not accessible to customers at a minimum of once a day - for an hour or two at a time. this is devestating to online communities and businesses!
in the beginning of our contract renewal they were great - only because they wanted me to write a review for them to post on their page... pfft... what a bait and switch..
dont be fooled by gimmicks... READ THESE REVIEWS - GO TO THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE - hundreds and hundreds of pissed off customers has to tell you something!
i have switched BACK to godaddy with no regrets. Netfirms is a joke.
Been using Netfirms for EIGHT (8) years and were I writing this entry 2 years ago it would be VERY favorable. But they have really changed from a responsive and caring group to an outfit that seems to have gotten worse with success -- and now that they have either merged or been taken over, it has REALLY headed sounth. About 2 years ago when I could not back up all my data (it is a poetry forum site) without constant stoppages, I switched to Bluehost for my "data-hosting" site (a Linus server that enable me easy linux code backups --- they Bluehost does very timely backups of their own for instant full restoring)...simply re-directed but kept everything but the forun database with Netfirms. I kept my other 14 domains registered and operating with Netfirms since there was no database involved and I still liked their attitude and service. But that has changed in the last 3 months. My sites never "go down" at Netfirms (the poetry website has the data at Bluehost so it has NEVER had an interuption since I have been there) BUT my Netfirms hosted sites have been shut down by their abuse department twice in a week. A spammed folder with malware keeps on being placed on all the domains -- same name every time and they claim they cannot block it - S/H/O/P. Netfirms sent an email (the first time they didn't identify the file) and I went an deleted the poisoned file from 12 of the domains (even though they only complained about ONE). After I deleted, the site didn't come back up and tech support said (after waiting 43 minutes on hold listening to the same lame recording over and over) that I had to change my PW. I did and an her later the site came back. I have NEVER had an abuse report from Bluehost. So I have begun moving all my domains. I feel bad -- I had a loyalty to the Netfirm crew when they were so good -- but I think this company is now in trouble .. and I begged for a phone call (not emails) from an officer so we could discuss salvaging this long time customer -- but NOTHING.
Two years ago I was recommending Netfirms to everyone -- NO LONGER!
I have been with netfirms for over 3 years now because I have all my domains managed there. I initially had 30 sites there and moved it away from them. Their hosting service are always down and my clients are so upset with me because their site (business) is not working so no money is coming in for them.
Today 2/23, my two sites castledesigns.com and cdidecor.com had been down for 3 days and I have not gotten any responses. These are the only 2 sites out of the 30 that are still with them. I will be moving this today and start closing my account. They have gotten my money for so long now and its time to remove from them.
DO NOT GO WITH NETFIRMS. very awful reliability, customer support, and others.
Our company provides web development services and tried NetFirms on a recommendation from a colleague.
If you are considering using them DO NOT SIGN UP.
Their support is non-existent. You can email support tickets support@netfirms.com, or call them. But you will never get any help. I've waited on hold with them for 4 hours before.
Our website is down at least one day each month. Since signing up last September we have had a total 7 days without any email access. That is a lot of lost business.
The only good thing about them is their $9.99/year domain registration because you can do most everything yourself and don't need their help.
We have used Netfirms for a number of years. I have the Enterprise 1 package and we have had various issues in the past that are usually resolved within 24hrs. Recently we started seeing major problems with our main site. It started with slow performance, then CGI concurrency limit messages and now the site is more or less offline completely. We reported the problem three days ago and it’s still not resolved. Netfirms initially indentified some issues but have never provided any detailed information on the issue and how it was going to be fixed.
Customer service is an oxymoron to Netfirms. I started to email their support organisation to request a status and ETA on a fix with no success. When I telephoned them to enquire about the status of the problem, they initially refused to acknowledge any issue. When I finally convinced the engineer to review my account in more detail he found a case open on our issues. He then simply mentioned the problem was being worked on but there is no indication on the issue would be fixed. We operate a charity music competition and festival and the problems are occurred during our yearly festival week. This means people cannot check schedules, book tickets, or find out general information. In essence, it’s a catastrophic event for us.
We have tried emailing their customer support manager Pamela Harding, their CEO Thomas Savundra and various other billing and sales divisions with no success. I would suggest to anyone thinking of opening an account with Netfirms to seriously consider an alternative. They may have competitive rates but if you experience technical issues you may find them lacking in the service department.
NetFirms servers are down a lot. About every three months or so, I have come to expect a server outage that is at least a half day. I have been with NetFirms 3 years. This is enough to hurt my company's productivity and work flow. We receive a lot of workorders via e-mail and have lost of dollars to this. Today, it is down yet again. I've had enough and will go through the pain to transition all our web activity to a different host - I have only been reluctant to do so because of the possible down time and amount of staff and clients this will effect. Oh well...
These reviewing sites tend to attract people who have a complaint, and not those who have had good experiences. I've been with Netfirms for about 3 years, where they host a number of websites that I maintain.
The sites are monitored with SiteProbe, so I get a notice within an hour of a site going down or up. I've had 3 outages in the last 10 months, and none have lasted more than an hour (that's how often SiteProbe checks, so it's probably less than an hour). So, I don't see an issue with reliability.
I've only had to call Netfirms support once or twice, and I have had to wait quite a while to get through to someone (something like 20 or 30 minutes).
Pricing is fair - not the cheapest, but far from the most expensive, and for what you get, it's very reasonable, in my opinion.
A definite decline in quality since earlier this year, possibly related to their move to another data center, but how would we know since their communication is so poor.
Same problems noted in other reviews, most due to really poor communication, lots of game playing over server resource issues...we want our site to be visible and a plan that will do this, but they seem to not get this.
Canned simplistic responses, tickets not answered for days, server wide changes that cripple websites, really poor communication, really poor communication, really poor communication. In case I forgot to mention this: really poor communication.
The only glimmer of hope is their new blog and forum...
I've been with Netfirms since 2006 and I've given them a lot of chances, but I had enough and I decided to go with a dedicated server instead. The hosting
package I am subscribed to is Netfirms ADVANTAGE™ Web Hosting.
Here is a list of major problems YOU WILL ENCOUNTER:
=SUPPORT=
* Their support is horrible (assuming it exists). And I don't mean not calling back only - they don't fix jack sh**!!! I called and opened a ticket about
being unable to view my mysql DBs (just disappeared from my DBs management page in the control panel) about a week ago and I didn't even get an e-mail
confirming that they opened the ticket! The guy on the phone told me that he simply has no idea when they it will be fixed and that he can e-mail me when
it's done.
* There hasn't been a month without issues. I have some inside information regarding their practices from a friend worked at a relatively high position at
Netfirms Canada - in a nutshell: they just don't give a fu** about their customers anymore and they will even be rude on the phone if you PUSH ON GETTING
WHAT YOU PAID FOR.
* A year ago you'd get somebody on the phone right away even during regular business hours. Now, you call at 5am and you wait at least 15 minutes - seems
their volume of calls greatly increased!
=UPTIME/RELIABILITY=
* Another, very annoying thing is that they will randomly take your website down without a prior notice and just show a message on your site that it is
undergoing maintenance, which puts bad light on your business - especially since you are not doing any maintenance.
* The networks they use might be semi-decent but on average the sites load supers slow - and that's simple HTML files only - with Joomla installed it is even
slower.
=ACCOUNT/BILLING=
* They will try to auto-renew your hosting a week or so before it is due, so be careful with leaving your credit card info on file.
* If the prices of the package you use drop down, you won't be notified - you will be billed the same amount you paid last year, unless you call them and say
"Hey, don't you think it's a di** move to charge me $150 for something you list now for $125?"
=OBSERVATIONS=
* They have recently introduced design + SEO services (with typos on the page), which in my opinion proves that they are not making enough money with their
current services - reason? They suck and more and more people are starting to realize it!!! (I am glad that you're becoming one of them!)
* They spent over a million dollars in 2009 on improving their infrastructure and rolling out the VPS offer, but it seems as if things went down a steep
slope in the past 2 years anyway.
* Quite often (once every 2-3 weeks) your e-mail will stop working for a day or so. You will get prompted (in Outlook/Outlook Express) for the password over
and over again and although you insert the correct password it is just not accepting it. Then you have to go to webmail (which is very obsolete-looking) and
try to respond to e-mails - in my case it is a major headache, since I have to be copying and pasting a lot of addresses and signatures.
=SECURITY=
* Another very big issue I have with them is that they allow maximum 8 characters password on anything!!!! That includes all e-mail accounts, main control
panel account, ftp accounts, etc.
* My account got hacked once and ALL OF MY DATA WAS REMOVED. I didn't have a fairly current backup, because I was swamped with work and had created A LOT of
content in a form of 4 new, fairly large Joomla websites. So, one day I try to view one of my websites and there is a default Netfirms page showing. I call
them and tell them THAT I GOT HACKED, which I was able to prove and the response I get is: well, sorry to hear that, but we can't do anything! So I spend
another week or so going through multiple "escalation" trying to talk to different people, including the manager and all I'm being told is that "we don't
have backups of particular accounts - we only do entire server backups, so we can't help you". Very frustrated, with 4 months of my 40h/week work being just
gone I decided NOT TO GIVE UP. Another week passes, more hours spent on the phone/email and they finally put "enough effort" to get a backup copy for me...
from 7 months before!!!!! They said they couldn't restore anything more recent, because their most recent backup of my site contained MALWARE!?!?!?!?! WTF,
right? If there really was any malware in my directories, how come it wasn't a problem for them before? Isn't there an antivirus running on the entire
server? Interestingly, my databases were restored too and they were very recent. Nevertheless, after 2 weeks of literally begging, 10 packs of smokes, a few
fights with people around me I got a 7 month old backup and a week old mysql backup - and that was their fix for an issue that was caused by poor security in
their own system.
=ANNOYANCES=
* Something that also became annoying at one point is inability to create your own mysql usernames/passwords, so if you import a website/application with DB
configuration hardcoded, you are screwed.
* FTP accounts - forget about setting up your own username/password. If you want to setup an account for John Smith, jsmith for example, you can't. Instead
you will get something like yourdomain.1 as the user and a random password.
* Their control panel doesn't work in Chrome - it will randomly freez, show blank errors, etc.
=CONCLUSION=
* I would NOT RECOMMEND this company to anyone - there is many, many more options out there that are a) better b) cheaper c) more customer-care oriented. I
am an IT specialist and I've analyzed hundreds of internet businesses and Netfirms places on the bottom of the list, so do yourself a favour and stay
away!!!! Netfirms is just horrible - the worst hosting company I used in my life. Not worth your time, money and nerves...
NetFirms Web Hosting Rip off, Scandal, file corruption, etc.
Today I am reporting a bad experience I have had with NetFirms Web Hosting. It has taken me 6 years of my life to build a top of the line reputation with website building and camera broadcasting. It only took NetFirms 2 weeks to globally tarnish my reputation. I confronted them with the problem the websties were having and they accused me of it being my equipment. After many, many hours of my investigating my equipment along with purchasing additional equipment to verify that is was not my equipment, but to verify that it was all NetFirms file server problem. It only took them 5 minutes, after being on hold for 25 minutes just to get through to speak with someone, to confirm that is was indeed something on their end blocking my upload. After a day and a half they reported that the problem had been resolved, but it was not!! I am completely disgusted with them. Because of this it has caused me to give up on my personal websites. Also, it has rendered well over $5000 of equipment completely useless to me, as well as the 6 years of work that I did being completely flushed down the toilet. As of now I still don’t know what I am going to do for my customers. The cost to change everything over to another web hosting company is going to cause me to lose money on every website job I have done. This sucks!!!! I don’t even know if I am able to sue them being that they are based in Canada and I am in the USA. I don’t even know I could put a price on it? These problems all came about on March 8, 2010 when NetFirms did a file server transfer. At least that is what they said was going on. The only choice I have to work with this problem is to abandon my personal nature websites and for my customers, I will take a loss to transfer one at a time to another company as I can afford it. NetFirms has lied, cheated, and committed fraud to me, all done with no guilt. I am not going to count on them to take any responsibility, they have shown me the true scum that they really are. As of March 8, 2010 the quality of NetFirms has become completely junk, useless. They are unable to provide me with simple, basic webhosting. I have also learned a lesson from this. I will never rely upon only one webhosting company again.
After being on hold for two hours and finally getting through to customer service. To ask yet again why the server is down again and again and again with out notice. Only to get a person on the phone who does not know a thing. If you go with Net Firms you better think again. I have lost thousand of dollars in sales opportunities because NetFirms is a badly run company with the worst service I could ever have imagined.
I will echo the other reviews and say that their customer service is beyond horrible. They do not respond to support emails for literally DAYS and it takes, seriously, an hour and a half to get someone on the phone. Once you have someone, they will put you back on hold for 10 minutes or longer while they search for the answer. Unfortunately, after you've spent all that time talking to them they do not follow through with their promises to fix the problem.
We have had nothing but bad experiences with them and it is likely that we will not receive a refund for the hosting non-service, nor for the days wasted attempting to get a satisfaction resolution to our issues.
Stay FAR away and spread the word that Netfirms will steal your money.
I have several sites and while most of them are small Netfirms prices and features were very good. But when I put together a good cms site then the service went downhill. I have submitted two questions for service and neither one has been answered yet. The site is extremely slow loading, yet the same pages and operations load fine at another hosting provider. A number of times a page will not load and you have to hit refresh (sometimes a couple of times) before the pages loads; that doesn't happen at the other hosting provider. So if you are going to have a small site and won't have a good cms on your site they are probably ok, otherwise I advise to look elsewhere.
I just got off of the phone with the "Retention Manager", named "Matt" and he and "Michelle" are the worst scammers in Web-Hosting history. I purchased the Business Hosting Plan that included "5 Free Domain Names for ONLY 119.00" and after I hit "submit" to authorize the charge to my card, they ended up charging my card for the full price of 175.40! This happened Feb 12, 2009 and even though their website boasts of a 24/7 phone customer service support, there was no phone support available until today (Monday, Feb 16, 2009).
This morning, after acting like he was fixing the problem by cancelling the previous account and charging me for another $119.00, it turned out that he "could not fix the problem". After getting disconnected, I had the pleasure of speaking with the rudest Customer Service reporesentative named "Michelle", who then told me that I could not get reimbursed for the domain names (even though they were "free"). After she finally transferred me to Matt, he informed me that he would have to personally contact the billing department in order to cancel my account and refund me entirely and that he would call me by 4:30pm to resolve.
When Matt called at 4:15pm, he sang a different tune by telling me that he would only cancel the hosting, but that I had to pay for the domains because 48 hrs had passed since the date of orginal sale. I explained to Matt that I no longer trusted his company as a legitimate business because they made an unauthorized charge on my credit card and were unable to honor their Business Hosting Plan that included "5 Free Domain Names for ONLY 119.00" and I asked him if he understood that Netfirms was only authorized to charge my card "$119.00", but he told me that it was not their fault that I pressed the whole button.... WHAT?
This company is CRAZY. And to top it all off, THEY ARE IN ONTARIO CANADA! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE SCAMMERS! I wish I would've found this website before purchasing. Now, I have to go through my bank to resolve this. It's a good thing I Print-Screen all online purchases before authorizing the charge because that is the only thing that is saving me.
I don't know where these people come from, but I've been with Netfirms since I started online [5 years]. Granted, I have had a couple of incidents where I had to 'prod' their support people to help, but only minor. I have the 'mid category' of their packages and find it more than adequate [presently running 13 domains], at one low price! I've had NO downtime, to speak of, except for my own lack of knowledge. My sites are ranking well and I have all the features necessary to improve. They have more features than I will ever have time to use. I would highly recommend Netfirms to anyone who is serious about doing business on the internet.
The good: Good prices and good feature offers. You will like the amount of space they provide, and the bandwidth. You will like their control panel, it\'s very impressive, intuitive, easy to use, and it comes with basic web stats. So you are getting some value for money.
The OK: The \'dual web server\' solution they implement (Apache and IIS) isn\'t as great as it sounds. Yes, it means you get PHP and ASP and ASP.NET together but if you have a PHP-ASP.NET mixed site or if you want to implement slightly advanced ASP.NET functionality such as URL rewriting or using ASHX/dynamic image handlers, then this just isn\'t for you. They run under medium trust and it is extremely restrictive. It would\'ve been better if they simply had PHP running under IIS as a simple thing like handling 404 pages becomes a pain. But the reason I put this under the \'OK\' section is because of the old adage - you get what you pay for. I chose this host due to the prices and expected too much. My mistake, but let this review be a guide for you. Also, my experience with them has indicated to me that they were originally a Linux host and only recently decided to add Windows hosting support; ASP.NET support shouldn\'t be like this.
The bad - I\'ve been with several hosts over the past 10 years, netfirms has the worst support staff. Think of the worst tech support you have ever had. Well, these are worse. Most replies are in the form of one-liners, spinners or deviations. They are loathe to go into detail about anything. They have a phone line, in Canada I believe, and the support staff there are curt or rude and generally have no technical skills. Further, their technical staff is pretty bad too - they will update server configurations and not inform anyone of what they are doing. When servers go down, there is again no email or intimation anywhere about it. The only way you know a server is down is when your website is unavailable.
The bottom line: If you are an advanced programmer/webmaster, then netfirms is not for you. If you are going to be hosting simple websites with mostly static content or pretemplated software or are not that knowledgeable about things like \'URL rewriting\', \'medium trust\', or \'reliability\', then Netfirms definitely gives you good value for money. Unfortunately, as a programmer, I did not like them and decided that I would stick with them for 2 years before giving my testimonial, as this review is now one based on experience over time rather than \'one bad incident\' that causes other negative reviews.
The good: Good pricing, they also offer ASP.NET and PHP together, plenty of disk space, good bandwidth, good control panel.
The OK: A little downtime once in a while, but it\'s acceptable.
The bad: Rude customer support, technically incompetent customer support, making configuration changes to servers without informing anyone. The last one, about making server changes, is big, though it sounds small. If you do anything \'fancy\' on your site such as URL rewriting, it may suddenly stop working and tech support will not know of what has changed. Also, having Apache+IIS \'dual web hosting\' isn\'t as great as it sounds, don\'t fall for that one. It causes more pain than is worth.
I wouldn't recommend this host to my worst enemy. Very insecure and slow. They actually suspended my website without prior warning, not even a notification e-mail. Only realised after a week, and only after contacting them about it, did they explain the situation. Apparently, the server was infected with a virus and inserted malicious code into every index file; they assumed this was my fault and suspended the site. Thankfully, my site is just a personal non-profit but apart from the security issues with this web host there are other issues. The server is unreliable, mysql is slow, ftp login time-outs are too short (1 minute), the control panel is absolute pants and the staff are incompetent and seem to paste a response from some hand book.
DO NOT GO NEAR THEM
They are scammers basically , they lie about their service and uptime guarantee, the customer service is the worst in the world . I have not dealt with anyone as rude as netfirms customer support. they do not know what they are talking about, the Cpanel is very very very very buggy and it does not do anything. you can not delete database that you have created and there is noway for you to talk to a live person unless you are trying to sign up for one of their packages. You would be much better off running your own server on your own personal PC and trust me it would be much faster than theirs. You have to wait for two days for a reply from their customer support and they do not explain anything in their reply except saying you have to wait and be patient even though you have been waiting for 10 days. You can sign up with much better hosting companies for alot cheaper than them.
Server is usually down. A little pricey for the features (I can get better features from hostmonster in a lesser price). I hate that netfirms is costly and yet there are so many downtimes / intermittent connection
Terrible customer service. Treated me very badly - rude and unprofessional. Their control panel is buggy and tech support non-existent. I switched hosts after 2 days. Don't walk way from this company.... RUN.
This hosting company is the worst that I have ever used. Honestly their customer service sucks. They have very ridgid rules on what you can and cant do to help your site do better. Any technical questions to their customer service are answered with check google or I have never heard of that. Now that I have dropped them I find that my e-mail address is still on the account and I have no way to get it off without contacting the company the website was done for.
