Omis web hosting company is cheating users by saying they have unlimited web hosting space. They have a catch here their is a limitation of total number of files you can upload. They have limit of 40960 files (This is totally impractical limit because you can easily reach this limit by having couple of copies of any open source php content management sites).
We are currently paying $5.95 per month which is way too high in current market scenario where you get pretty good hosting cheaper then this.
Please don't fall in trap and try some good hosting companies who does not have such catch.
OUTSTANDING "Technical Support" --- Extremely User-Friendly. Their reliablitiy is Un-matched! I've never had any downtime in the ten years I've been with www.omnis.com -- EVERY ISSUE (usually self-inflicted by me) has been diagnosed & fixed either instantaneously or within 24 hours. I'm so proud of the service they render & features they offer, I've signed up two additional clients I represent. Competitors have offers 'cheaper/better service' (their pitch)....But I'll Never Leave Omnis.com.
Omnis "unlimited" is clearly not unlimited. Without notice, Omnis placed a throttle on my site which took me from very good speeds for years to a point where loading a simple 20k page took over a minute. Here is their response:
"Your web site is using 11.2 GB of disk space. The average is 254MB
with the maximum normal usage being 2.0GB. Your usage is 5 times
greater then the normal so your resources were limted in the 5th
highest or 5th (of 10) most limiting tier."
Lies. We never experienced a problem with speed until now, and they chose to lie to me.
I was reading the posts about omnis and at one time i would of agreed. However things are changing maybe it's the times i don't know. But my service has vastly improved within the last year. Omnis is on it's way back up to the top and there deals currently are the best in my opinion. And the customer service was actually helpful and i would recommend you try them out, in this time saving money is a absolute need and omnis fits my budget as well as assist me in my needs. Old posts are just that, old posts and times as well as things do change and omnis is changing for the better. If your just starting out and dont want to spend alot of money i would say go with omnis you wont regret it.
I have been hosting with omnis for a few years. I actually have a few different websites with a few different web hosting companys (just to be safe). Well today, Omnis was able to solve a problem with a hosting account that was hosted on a competitors server! Kudos for them going above and beyond helping me with a frustrating issue I have been having for a while. I am now in the process of transfering my other accounts to them.
Omnis is by far the absolute WORST web hosting service I have ever seen. We constantly experience problems with their servers going down, leaving our all important business website (which plays an instrumental role in our customer service and order-taking abilities) not accessible to our customers. We end up losing sales as a result and often get frustrated customers calling to find out why they cannot email us or access our website. When we attempt to contact Omnis about the problem, our questions and emails fall upon deaf ears, as not once has any email inquiry of mine ever been answered. When I call, I often cannot get through because everyone else that uses them as a host is having problems, too, and the line is always busy.
The few random times I have gotten through to someone, the only thing they can tell me is that they are working on it. Not when it will be fixed. Not ensuring us it won't happen again. Not knowing what caused it. Not apologizing. And not offering any sort of reimbursement or compensation for us paying for a service that is worthless and all of the lost time we experienced. It is our highest recommendation that you look elsewhere when choosing a web hosting service. Unless of course you want a website and an email account that can never be used.
For the money and very basic reason of my hosting, Omnis excels as a hosting company; i'm not just speaking of the scores of features like so many unlimiteds that they mention on their site (some understandable and most not, by a beginner and the average visitor). I'm talking about the actual user experience; except on one instance, when a query to support had an unrelated answer, i've never had a reason for complaint and queries do elicit a response within 24-48 hrs. Though in my standards, especially for a company that does not have live chat for support, a query over mail should have a prompt resolution, I've somehow learnt to expect this time lag from them as it is not a hosting that is costly and most answers have solved my issues.
However when I see a lot of other hosting companies offering much more competitive rates, I do feel, Omnis is not very cheap and could do better with a little more fine-tuning and handholding.
I'm planning to host more sites and bluehost has come as a top choice through my research though their support seems to be lacking vis-a-vis their claims/reputation (from reviews here). Also had a couple of chats with their support. I got my answers but I had the same feeling as Jerimee here - ".... getting the distinct impression that the guy is gritting his teeth in irritation at having to talk with me". I'm told the CEO is a very committed person. I hope he looks into this.
I'll still be hosting with them anyway. possibly Omnis for my non-commercial sites and bluehost for the e-commerce ones. I also see here that the latter are having some major & frequent downtimes lately. I guess I'll wait and see a little more.
Omnis is sort of like Home Depot (on a much smaller scale). It's a place where the pros go when they need something cheap, quick, small and don't need any help. I'll explain:
Getting in touch with Omnis support is rare and when you do, they're a little rude and not at all helpful. So you should know what you're doing.
Omnis servers are veeeery sloooow, so it's probably not a good idea to rely on them to run your core business site. Email? Forget about it. The Omnis webmail service is too slow for Outlook and it takes an average of 30-60 seconds to do anything when you log directly in. Checking email on a high-speed internet connection goes like this: Log in... 60 seconds, click 'Inbox'... wait 60 seconds, open an email... wait 60 seconds, hit 'reply'... wait 60 seconds, hit 'send'... wait 60 seconds, retype your email because, for SOME unknown reason it didn't send.
I have found that Omnis is a great host for "hobby" sites (like garage band sites and family sites) for those who are familiar with building sites.
Worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Out of three representatives, all were rude, two hung up on me, and one cursed on the phone. Pricing is mediocre, management is obviously not doing their job right. This company will not be around very long. If you dont want a headache, DO NOT register or host with them.
I first signed up with Omnis years ago because of their affordability at the time. Their web hosting package is just not up to par these days. They give you 20MB of storage space for around $5 a month, 1 email (additional costs for extra), no SQL, and weak support for most scripts and languages. For a small site, it was okay, but these days I need the additional features and I find I get get a ton more storage space and features for less than I paid here. Siteground or HostMonster packages blow this company away.
As far as support goes, this company was not much help. Email was almost always not working, the server was down more often than I would like, and if you want to cancel an account, you have to track someone down over the phone who is competant enough to do that.
Don't bother. It more expensive and more hassle with Omnis.
I had 6 hosting accounts with omnis using their basic UNIX hosting.
They are having repeated DDoS attacks, and unable to maintain my websites.
Im leaving them not only for that, but the incompetance of the responses from their tech support. They never fully read my help requests, and rarely were able to help me the first time around.
I've used Omnis domain services for about 4 years now and would highly reccomend it. I started using the web hosting about 6 months ago and it completely changed my views on the omnis network. For the past 6 months there has been an hour to 8 hours of downtime on e-mail atleast 2 times a week. Along with website downtime and other types of service outage atleast once a week. I currently have 3 different accounts with them that ar going to be cancelled when billing cycle is up. Constant downtime, support line is always busy, and they never atleast put a message on the control panel to let people know why it's down and when it's going to be fixed. I will not reccomend them anymore.
We started using Omnis in 2001 and have been very satisfied with there pricing and network performance. Their control panel is easy to use and superior to those of other hosting providers. They are clearly a low price leader but offer excellent value for theor services. We are a high-end web hosting company and many times recomment Omnis for low-end sites where a client only needs a small web presence. We use their web hosting as a backup to our services and I give Omnis A++.
I would have to say that I have found their hosting to be unreliable at the best. The sql servers seem to be slow and the customer support has a standard answer of "It must be your scripts" whenever there is a problem. Not good ....
I'm a web designer and I have used Omnis for over 85 clients in the past 4 years. They have always responded in a timely manner to calls or e-mails. I have found their service to be exceptional and the price more than reasonable.
I have used their services for over 4 years now. Like every other host I tried, they have a few issues. All in all, I am happy with their service though.
Thank you for your ratings, JackN. We always like to hear good things from our customers. Omnis is always looking to improve and we never are satisfied with the status quo. So, keep looking to see those "few issues" you mention becoming no issues.
Reliable, but was never good with customer service. Would recommend, with reservations, to EXPERIENCED folks, but not for the faint of heart. I'm out for the same reason as previous poster - it's been nearly 4 months since they introduced new limits on the hosting packages, but existing customers are still waiting to be upgraded. But it's gonna happen... soon... so they say. Tick tock, tick tock.
Even after all that you have been through, we do appreciate that you would still recommend Omnis. We want to continue to grow so that you will be able to recommend us to EVERYONE. In the past we have experienced some growing pains and unfortunately some of our customers felt them as well. But as we grow we strive to grow more quickly and postively without the pains. Omnis is not in business to lose customers but to serve our customers. We have made changes and you may be pleasantly surprised at what we have done to serve.
They started out appearing to be great. But when they decide to screw over they old customers by not upgrading their plans to their newer plans (which are at the same price), it was the last straw for me
We are sorry to lose you as a customer. We certainly hate to see our customers go. Especially because of issues with our service. Rest assured that this is not a typical occurance with Omnis. We have been in the web hosting business for many years and will continue to do so because of quality services and our dedication to our customers. We hope that you will consider us again to regain your faith in us.
