We have just left this host. We read great ratings when we first paid for our domain names and hosting at this site. One of our sites was an established holocaust education site, so we needed affordabilty and reliability. We got affordability, but discovered several things which future web directors need to be aware of:
1. SnakeInc is a reseller: they buy space on servers around the country, and put your site on them, and list your domain under their name unless you tussle with them and get it in yours. They moved our paid sites 4 times and claimed on the board that they were "fixing" their servers.
2. Twice with 2 websites, 6 months of new material was lost and went back to a far earlier version. They claim they had no idea why. With one I had a recent backup, with the other, I spent four weeks re-establishing the site. It was a nightmare.
3. They put my most important site on a free server which had problems.
4. They advertise 24/7 AIM support: it is rarely on. They advertise 24/7 email support: you can wait for days, and in some cases weeks for a response.
5. Their front page looks like a business, but from what the forum info reads, they are young persons (one under 18) and they respond to problems as such. Support all but disappeared for a two week period even off the forum.
6. Expect to be treated badly. If you question them about server moves, pwd delays, changes in your page you did not make etc, you will be met by caustic remarks and even profanity.
7. Their feedback section in which people confronted them on several issues include remarks like kick your a--- and dont need that cr-- etc. [often worse] They respond like this to anyone who confronts them about why stuff is happening.
8. They claim 99.9% uptime, which is not the case. Its better now, but they often have cpanel expiration notices, pages not found, ftp not working etc. This can be verified by forum reports.
9. We were not down on SnakeINC: my son volunteered as an admin on their forum on topics such as html and css. He devoted sometimes 15-20 hours a weeks answering questions etc, just for the experience, They even treated him this way in the end, and transferring the sites became a major endeavor. One interchange became libelous.
10. They offered an emergency #, but then write on the forum why you should almost never use it.
11. Some gamers who are very quick with the ways of the net may find a home there, but business and education professionals should avoid them like the plague. They had sites with far more visits than mine and business sites which lost money and customers because of downtime and bandwidth problems.
In the beginning, alot of what I am saying may not sound correct but by the time several months have past, almost all have experienced the problems. I was treated like dirt towards the end, and they tried to be divisive between me and my son who hosted there also.
Unacceptable behavior from a server. Not registered with their own Chamber of Commerce. Questions have been raised about their incorporation, taxes, location, and accountability, and even thier cpanel license. I can not address the last, but others have. eb |

They're a great host. Unfortunately, the past few months, I've been experiencing so much downtime that I've decided to leave their company. Their support is quick and efficient but unfortunately what drove me away is their up time. |
