Verdict : If there was a "Worst Company Ever" award, these guys would get it hands down. And I don't mean worst web host -- I mean worst company ever.

When I first signed up for their service 5+ years ago, it was a good value with decent, helpful, friendly support. Now, the "support" is virtually non-existent, and it is almost entirely outsourced to India.

To put it simply, what usually takes the help desk first level support at any other company about 5-10 minutes to fix while you're on the phone/chat, Start Logic's online "support" has no actual ability to accomplish anything beyond copying & pasting tutorials they Google before they must create a support ticket and tell you that a "specialist" will get back to you in 2-4 hours, which NEVER happens. If you don't follow up with them with additional phone/chat after that 2-4 hour window has passed, it is unlikely that anyone will update your ticket for a day or two. And even when that finally happens, your support ticket is bounced from one person to another, who often give you either the same copy/paste search results from Google, or completely contradictory information. It is clear that they never even bother to look at the previous history of that same support ticket to see what the others have done! My last support issue took about 8 days to "fix", which wasn't really ever fixed, just a temporary workaround. It probably would have taken longer, but I simply gave up -- during this time, I migrated my websites over to Dream Host, who have been fantastic.

But that led me to yet another problem with Start Logic -- canceling my accounts has been a whole new saga of 3+ support tickets and 2+ phone calls over the past 2 days, and is unlikely to be resolved anytime soon.

Overall, if you're looking for the most frustrating customer experience with a completely unreliable web host that will mess your site up, randomly suspend you if you get spikes in traffic, and basically rip you off, then Start Logic is the host for you!

Don't, don't, don't ever use this company. EVER.

Verdict : StartLogic sucks, and more.
They donít know the basics of web hosting
They have incompetent support staff in India. They actually have never announced that it resides in Mangalore, Karnataka, India.
The support staff there is absolutely worthless. You can make out that you are probably chatting with a careless betel chewer who is a school drop out and who has no idea about your question asked, doesnít know English in the first place, and frustrates you no end with his guffaws.
StartLogic changes the file permissions on their own. 644 gets changed to 755. Why? They have no answer.
The support staff will easily let anyone in the webhosting panel of a customer by the answering of a very stupid question. Their security in this context is absolutely (ABSOLUTELY) alarming (ALARMING). You can complain as many times but either they will not understand or pretend that they have not understood and be evasive, be diversionary.
The sites hosted on their werservers will not show in other countries for some mysterious reason. Instead something else will show up, perhaps Google search engine sites.
The Simple scripts that are normally allowed on other webhosting sites fail on theirs and you are frustrated down to hell and you have no idea about retribution from where. Their support staff doesnít know what you are talking about. So you pay for the databases but they are as good as redundant.
StartLogic webhosting by default will name your index file as index.htm when the first file to the best of my knowledge is index.html. They deliberately do not let this little important piece of info. known to their customers. Thus, this fact coupled with some other technical glitch or gimmick (by StartLogic themselves), will not yield your home page but a parking page filled with their ppc advertisements. That file (the .html file) is not visible to you in the control panel. THAT IS BIG BIG FRAUD. The entire internet community should take note of this. How petty can anyone get. Theft of your traffic and making money from your traffic is a WEBHOSTING INTERNET CRIME.
Unconfirmed reports have told me that their Indian employees in Mangalore have illegal liaisons with some Indian companies.

Not only do the file permissions get changed from 644 to 755 for a mysterious reason, there is no record of the date and time when this criminal act was committed. There is no way you get an intimation. There is no way you get to know when your webhosting control panel was accessed and from where (ip address, country etc.). Very surreptitiously, without informing the customer, the index.html files are removed. So if you have already taken care by uploading (copying from .htm and then renaming actually) a .html file also alongwith the .htm (default of StartLogic), even then you are not secure because you never will notice or be intimated when a thief or ghost will enter your hosting panel and remove or delete the .html file. Example is the link above at www.tripodot.info. It is actually supposed to go to www.tripodot.com/info/index.htm. It is a redirect by the way (incidental). It doesn't. It actually goes to www.tripodot.com/index.html. This is because StartLogic by default names all html files uploaded with .htm extension but actually points the folder recall or folder fetch command to the index.html file. Okay, fine. So I copied the .htm file, renamed the file with the extension only to .html and then kept it alongside, hoping that now in any case, the intended file shall be seen. Alas, I noticed after a few months that the .html file was gone and now if you were to go to www.tripodot.info, then you would actually land up at their parking page at www.tripodot.com/info/index.html. And this is because (to add to that), there is also an act of "undoing" your disabling of the 404 error page. This means that if you have disabled their parking page as a result of 404 error page (where they show their page with ppc advertisements), then once again a ghost or a thief visits your control panel and undoes the disabling, meaning that now allowing for the error page with ads to show. Did you get it? 2 things were done by them - no. one >> .html file removed by them, no. 2 >> undoing of your disabling of the 404 error page. So the visitor lands at their parking page with their ppc ads. And you donít know that this is happening. You canít check everything all the time. This is becaue some geolocation parameters also creep in. I am in Delhi, so here it is fine, but in Maharashtra or Assam or elsewhere outside of India for that matter, they are displaying the ppc page. You tell this to their support staff when you notice, and they tell you that you must have a secure password!! Can you believe that? I donít know from what family background these crooks come? Petty, louts, thieves, hungry and naked. Get out and beg, StartLogic! Donít spoil the hosting industry. :-( Disgrace. I have since noticed (only a few hours ago), that the .html file was gone. I have done it again (copied the .htm file, renamed it to .html and then keeping it alongside the .htm) (April 26, 2013). So letís see what happens when you visit www.tripodot.com/info/index.htm and www.tripodot.com/info/index.html which should actually be the same (copies). If it doesnít, intimate.

Verdict : Unlimited does not mean unlimited. I spoke to these people 3 years ago about my intent for my web page and they said not problem. It is unlimited. Come to find out it is not unlimited and they suspended my account because I was using abnormal disk space. I guess when I signed up I misread unlimited disk space. Be careful with this provider if you need a lot of disk space because unlimited to them doesn't mean unlimited. They suspended my account and I told them to just cancel my account and I would find another provider that would stand by what they advertise.

Verdict : Terrible! Stay away from this company! They "accidentally" re-signed me for 5 years when I pay yearly. Charged my Paypal account "accidentally" over $120. Sent me to there billing dept for a refund where I was told "sorry, it's to late, can't refund your money." I was sooooo angry. They told me they could "NEVER" refund my money even though it was their fault. What a scam! They couldn't even help me edit my website. They said the website was "to old"! (It's 3 years old!) Terrible experience. STAY FAR AWAY from this company! Luckily Paypal refunded the money to me that Startlogic stole from me.

Verdict : I've tried too many times now to get help on very basic set-up or changes to my site. I've had to ask a nephew of mine to help who is an IT guy. His comments are even surprising, that the site is not a user friendly site. I've called tech support but receive no support. There is silence on the other end when asking questions. It's like they do not care. I've got to get away from this service and find someone else.

Verdict : I have no problems with Startlogic whatsoever. Their telephone support staff is friendly and helpful every time I have to call them. They also speak and understand English--a big plus for me.

They're a bit pricey but I see no need to go elsewhere when I've been satisfied with them for so long. I definitely would recommend them to anybody.

Verdict : I can't figure out this company. EVERY time I interface with them for tech support, I can't believe the latency between the chat lines. Then they ask me if I mind holding for 3 or 4 minutes when I've been waiting 3 or 4 minutes wondering what the heck?

Then this disfunctional exchange ensues, and I ultimately get the line that I'll get a call back thing, to which I have gotten to the point I figure out how to get around my 'issue'.

Today, certain files stop showing up in their 'file manager', the same one that when I renew a login, displays all weird and I have to back out the end of the URL to the top of the file tree.

Anyway, I stay with them because doesn't every provider have their pretty numerous flaws? Or maybe and because I'm too disorganized to shop around and at least try another provider that is price competitive.

Verdict : These guys are incompetent. They regularly have database problems. Customer support is awful. They also have a "sudden death" policy if you exceed bandwidth quotas. They don't give you any notice. They don't tell you you're getting close. They don't warn you of dangers. They just suspend your account, and don't give you any indication of how to fix it.

Avoid this lousy service.

Verdict : They started out a great deal and great service. Steadily downhill from there. Support and billing departments flat out lie! I had 2 websites through them and they quoted me one price and then charged me a different one and basically said too bad.

I set my account not to renew and they charged me anyway. Then said it will take up to 48 hours to refund.
Steer clear of these guys.

Verdict : I have been with Startlogic for over 3 years. I am very happy with their service. I don't have any training in webdesign or programming, so I run into problems especially when I try to upload my site or change it around. The support people are always very nice, and my issues are always solved quickly. Being a poor artist, the only thing I would change is making hosting cheaper. But it's comparable to other hosting sites, so I am not complaining.

Verdict : I have been with Startlogic for 10 or so years. They started out as the best and cheapest in the buisness. I heard that they got purchased by another company a few years ago and things have gone down hill since then. Don't get fooled by thier "unlimited" sales pitch. I had 27 gig on mine before they suspended me for having too much on an unlimited account. go figure. I have just canceled my long standing relationship with them. Verdict : They repeatedly, under the guise of "improving site security" asked me to change my password, with increasingly difficult and complex rules making it nearly impossible for me to remember my password, given the relative infrequency I went in to change things. Then on the couple times I tried to chat with customer support, they were neither understanding nor polite. i.e. It HAS to be done this way to protect YOU, like they couldn't come up with something they could do to improve site security. When I complained and said I didn't want to renew my contract, they abruptly canceled the site, without offering a refund for the time left on my contract, making it impossible to retrieve page details I wanted transfered to a new host. Fortunately the pages were backed up elsewhere. They are rude, and no matter how cheap, they are too expensive for what you get.

Verdict : These guys are the absolute WORST web hosting company. The servers go down at least once per month. Every time we call their standard response is it will take 24 to 48 hours to resolve a problem with a production website. It is totally unreasonable to have a business website down for 48 hours. Our latest problem (SSL certificate) has caused our site to be down for over 72 hours!!! The site was working fine one day and the next the whole site was down.

Verdict : If your running a WordPress site get away from these guys.

I've been with them for years, but opened my first Wordpress e-commerce site in May. It is now September and the site just began going to crap a week or so ago. It began loading slowing and at times the server would time out all together. Tech support is merely BS and the famous run around. It took third party testing to finally get them to admit something was wrong.

"The Box." Tech support told me they moved my SQL database to a "different box." My daily news site is destroyed, my customers pissed, and I'm having to migrate a badly damaged site or the real possibility of having to rebuild it all.

Maybe if I'm the least bit lucky, the backup databes will work on the new host, but likely as not it won't as the new server is running on linux.

Heavy Sigh

Verdict : I was first thrilled to be hosting with SL. They had a great backend and super fast setup service. All was well for about a year. My site was in development and not live, and email functioned well. Then came the upgrades. Email was constantly down. VDECK 3 totally screwed up my access to the site and was a pain to get everything back to normal. About this time I started a blog site and a media gallery to support my communications online. This is when I learned how awefully slow thier MySQL service is. IF YOU ARE USING DATABASE CONTENT GO ELSEWHERE!!!! It literally makes the site crawl like you were on an old 56k connection! If you use static HTML or limited PHP pages they will be fine. The billing and renewal process is complicated and the prices are always getting more expensive. My rate got more expensive every year and with no good reason. This last time they billed me for the hosting and a domain and I no longer manage my domains with them! I use register4less for my domains as hosting companies always screw up domain registration and its best to keep them separate so they dont get held hostage by a bad host. In conclusion there are much better deals to be had out there for the price.

Verdict : My entire opinion about Startlogic changed over the past couple days. They suspended my site twice for what they said was a couple mp3 files that were being "hammered" - causing an "overload" (whatever that means!) on their system.

Well, I went ahead and removed the files in question and my site remains suspended. I have emailed several times *and* also have contacted support (a joke; based in India) without receiving any satisfaction. Satisfaction for me would be to have them re-activate my site, but they have been giving me the "we're trying to resolve your issue as soon as possible" line.

This has happened TWICE in the past few days, causing me thousands of dollars in lost sales!

This kind of behavior is totally unacceptable. Being a long-time customer of theirs I would have hoped for a bit of decency by way of a phone call instead of them taking down my site.

My site is still down; about 16 hours so far and I am powerless. My company is losing a lot of money. I will tell everyone I know to never use Startlogic if this is how they handle issues.

Verdict : Have any of your seen the Abbott and Costello comedy routine - "Who's on first?" If so, you have an inkling of my interactions with Startlogic, both in billing and tech support. After being incorrectly billed for a Canadian domain that I could not possibly sign up for, since I'm an American and have no business interests in Canada, I did manage to get my money back for that. Now I'm hoping that they will honor their "money-back guarantee" and I'll see those funds as well. I've moved the domain name they did manage to register for me correctly to another hosting company which has proven to be 1,000 times more attentive and helpful in only a few days.

Verdict : I totally agree with Keith about the outage ! I bought my domains about 7 pr 8 months ago, but only started to put up my wordpress.org blog at startlogic about 2 months ago. Since then, I have many sleepless nights ! Constantly encounter with outage problems (extremely unreliable loading times, sometimes more than 15 seconds ! many of my blog readers complain about the slowness), customer services varies, many other problems here and there, and everyday is different.

I am just getting quite tired and frustrated. Will start to seriously looking for new web host.

Verdict : We have seen a number of system outages over the years but in the last 6 months there have beed an ever increasing number of email outages some lasting as long as 4 days. Tech support is of little help, and sales hung up with me as I tried to discuss other alternatives to maintianing the email service. We use email 85% of the time in our business to communicate with our customers, the last outage we lost 3 days of emails. We are starting to look for a new hosting organization not a small or inexpensive task for a multi domain organization.

Verdict : Terrible customer service. I had two accounts with them and decided to close one of them. I called their billing department and thought it was taken care of, but woke up to a renewal charge today. Oddly enough though, as of last week I had a credit card on there that was expired. Low and behold the credit card expiration date was updated - only I didn't do it. I never connected the two accounts I had with them, but I can only suspect that that is how they got the updated information. I emailed their customer support and was told that their records do not show that I tried to contact them before today. So, here I am less than 24 hours past my renewal day and they want to charge me a $35 fee to close the account because their records do not show that I called. They also said if they knew why I wanted to close the account that maybe they could help me figure something out. What? I want to close the account because I purchased the service a year ago and I NEVER used it. Seems obvious to me. Needless to say I will NOT be renewing my other account with them. To bad it doesn't expire for another year else I would so be out of there. They completely lost my business for good today. This is just the icing on the cake of a long line of disappointments with their poor customer service and their canned scripted responses to real questions. I am sick of it. They are lucky I have been too lazy to look into other hosting and whatnot from someone else but this situation just gave me the kick in the butt I needed. I'm going to start shopping around right now in fact. Maybe I will just pay a $35 cancellation fee for my other account just to get the heck away from them. Ugh!

Verdict : Horribal customer support, I have tired to get in contact with customer support many times my longest time is 45 mins on hold and still no one picks up. Emails are answered well over 24 hours. I bought a domain with them after 2 days I still didn't own it, they charged me for it though.

They charge you for things that should be free, like good customer support ( I assume good, wasn't paying $50 a month for it) as well as site building tools you have to actually pay for if you want to have more then 9 pages.

The good? Canceling was easy.

Verdict : Terrible hosting company. Tech support are of little help - mechanical and stick to the script. We've been with this company, both Linux and Windows environments, for a number of years now and we finally decided to move. Our VPS server runs into yellow and red alerts just about every other day. Their supposedly VPS tech support specialist will not go the extra mile to troubleshoot the problem other than reset the server. Support tickets go into a limbo. In the meanwhile, the problem persists. Move on and don't waste your time with Startlogic.

Verdict : I have been tolerated Startlogic for two years. Finally, I have decided to choose another provider. The website and emails do not work too often. The customer service is okay if you can wait for 15 minutes to get the operator. The most annoying that they always charge more than they advertise and I had to call to billing service couple of times to cancel the charges.

Verdict : quality service and reliability have given way to incompetent technical support and corporate greed. It is damn hard to be any more unethical than startlogic. i purchased their worthless pro logic hosting service. I wanted to build a content rich site, everytime i tried to upload content their servers would crash and i would have to start all over from scratch. talk about a pain in the butt!!! then a couple months later when i asked for a refund for the prologic hosting, website creator premium and the domain privacy services i purchased they refused to issue a refund. Their advertising is misleading. They advertise 5.95 a month for prologic hosting, then as soon as you sign up they unceremoniously jacked up the price to 7.95 a month. plus an additional 9.95 per month set up fee to create your website. Startlogic is the most unethical web hosting company online today. They have absolutely no ethics. THEY ARE OPERATING A BAIT AND SWITCH OPERATION!!! They are in business to con their customers out of their hard earned money. DO NOT i repeat DO NOT purchase any services from this con artist. THEY DO NOT HONOR THEIR REFUND POLICY. Ignore any postive ads you read online about startlogic. They have been written by paid affiliates of startlogic. Startlogics affiliate program pays their affiliates $100.00 per customer that they refer to startlogic who signs up for their worthless pro logic hosting plans. Startlogic also advertised that their servers have a 99% uptime. Their advertising is absolutely FALSE!!! The truth is their servers have a 99% DOWNTIME rating!!! IGNORE the postive ads about startlogic. MONEY TENDS TO HINDER OBJECTIVITY!!!

Verdict : I started with Startlogic ~ 6 months ago with a rental website that has only a few rental information. In more than 60% of the time, it would take 30-60 seconds to get on to my web or browse different pages. I complained more than 30 times and they could never fully resolve the problem. Stay away from this compnay!

Verdict : I signed up for Webhosting for a year with the company and got a free domain name.

The control panel was awful and technical support inexistant, no one answered the phone. No one cares, except to take your money.

I paid through Paypal. I cancelled within 2 hours, and have not seen my refund. i emailed them several time, no refund...

They said they would only refund through credit card even though I paid through Paypal, and want my credit card info. It turns out I saw some complaints about them taking money from peoples credit cards from services they did not buy or had expired long ago.

So now I am out of my money, and cannot use my domain name because I will not deal with that scam company again.

Please contact me if you know what steps to take to help myself in this situation. I need to finally get a refund and more than anything else, I need my domain name which they basically have taken away from me.

Thank you in advance.

Verdict : I have been with Startlogic for my family website and Gallery php based photo sharing application for about 3 years. Overall it has been neither a good nor bad experience. It's an entry level hosting service and thats roughly what you get. If you are a total novice, expect to spend lots of hours/days getting a good basic site set up.

I am on a shared server hosting plan (cheap). Lately there has been a lot more latency and slow service periods than in the past. I wouldn't mind so much if the customer service would at least acknowledge that; 1. There is a problem, or 2. This is what you get. Since this is not a business website I don't track uptime and downtime, but you can expect an outage every other month.

I use the Gallery V3 application to manage my extensive photo galleries. Since the Vdeck "upgrade" in late 2007 I have had very slow response times. On a perfect high speed connection, I expect snappy performance with little wait time. Well, you will never get it on a Start Logic server. It's really a bummer and makes you feel like you are on a non-commercial website. I paid the Gallery developers to tweak my php settings and the Gallery and it was determined, thats all Im going to get unless I switch hosts.

One last gripe, as some one else mentioned, the file manager in the new interface is a joke. The simplest job of just uploading a file and moving it to a particular directory is a multi-step process. Not Good.

My customer service experience has been to always get in touch with someone quickly. The bad thing is that they usually tell me the problem (slowdown, errors, compatability, etc.) is on my end. They have also helped to resolve problems occasionally, but that was mostly at the beginning of this web sites creaion years ago.

Overall, I don't think I would recommend use or disuse of Startlogic anymore. They are not too bad, but not too good.

Verdict : I signed up for Starlogic in September 2007. I intended on trying them out and possibly getting my money back (they advertise a 30 day money back guarantee), but to my delight I found that their web-biulder SITEDELUX was great for what I wanted so I stayed. About a month later
they claimed they were upgrading their services, which meant the editing functions on Sitedeluxe were unavailable a lot. And then they realized that their upgrades amde sitedelux less compatable with their new system so they are now fazing Sitedelux out. Now I have to call about at least twice a month to get them to reset my editor so I can make any changes through Sitedelux. I've asked 5 service reps if they are fazing out Sitedelux and only 1 has been honest with me and said 'yes'. The others were 'not aloud to talk about the matter'. Now I'm searching to another hosting company, but I'm dreading having to build my site from scratch again. It took me at least 100 hours before.

Verdict : Today starlogic is out of internet, it's main site is down, my site down too, no email, no fpt... during the morning, my site start to wake up... but it is a backup TREE MONTHS OLD, and I can do nothing as email, live chat or any other way to talk to them is just unavailable. Free phone is not an ption if you live in another continent, anyway, sure it is blocked!

In the time I am with them, the Live chat wait time had varied from 15 minutes the first few times (mid of 2007), to one hour and a half as the USUAL (not peak) wait time on 2008! Totally unusable, so the only way to talk to them was opening support tickets, that they quickly answerd, that's true.

Also, my site loads now about 3-5 times slower than it used to do, but well, given the price, web space and bandwith, it is something one could spect and I don't complain about it at all.

Verdict : I have to say the tech support are very nice and courteous at Startlogic. I had to cancel my account due to the fact their servers are blocked in china and my website is based on serving china customers. I had a similar issue before with another hosting company and they just changed the IP and it worked. Not sure why Startlogic can't do this but they just said they can't. Maybe it's not easy to do so. If the servers were not blocked I'd continue to try them out.

Verdict : Well, I thought I'd give Startlogic a try. But I had one problem after another. First the virtual file didnt work properly but they fixed it after one week. After fixing this issue, a serious problem occurred that my sites could not be viewed in China. I had this issue before with another hosting company and they fixed it by changing the IP. Startlogic said they did have a few customers from Asia with the similar problem, but they said there was nothing they could do and did not want to change the IP for just one customer. I need my site to be viewed in China and by the site not being able to be viewed due to the server settings, I had to throw in the towel and call it quits and cancel my plan at Startlogic. Also, their email control panel isn't that easy to use if you need to add multiple emails. Well, I give up on Startlogic, but I did give it a good try. One other complaint I would have is that sometimes you have to wait hours to get an online operator. I worry that in an emergency such as the site having problems you can't reach anyone.

Verdict : I have been with startlogic over 5 years.
They had a great basic system until october 2007.
Since they upgraded to VDEC3 things are going downward.

Before oct 2007, things were going smoothly with a very few problems. Though support was never easy to reach and rarely gave effective solutions. Many software that startlogic uses have bugs that affect stability.

Since Oct 2007, we had many downtimes due to VDEC3. VDEC3 has sever ergonimic and security issues. Passwords are sent in clear over the internet !!! Editing Web pages can be a headacke. Only one page at a time can be uploaded ! File manager which was a great tool in VDEC2 was reduced to the strict mininum in VDEC3. It looks like startlogic wants its customer to run away. In addition some tools like "SiteDelux" can/will change secutiry on files such a way that you web site will crash. Then don't talk about passwords being sent in clear over http instead of https ... a real laughing matter.

When I called support to report these issue they event didn't want to open a ticket. Only thing that I got was "our system is setup this way, there is no problem to report". I even talked to the supervisor. No way to get any help.

So Basically we will have to look for a new service provider.

Verdict : I had used Startlogic for a couple of years to host my website. They were cheap. The website authoring tool vdeck was primitive but it did work. Recently they switched to vdeck3. What a disaster! I could no longer edit my website either with the old or new vdeck consoles though both gave appearances of at least "being there". To make matters worse, they wanted to charge $9.98 per month for an upgraded editor - That was more that the charge for the website!

Startlogic makes it deliberately hard to switch from their website once you are there. No FAQ or "knowledge base" on migrating away from startlogic at all. Their "live tech support" is a joke! It takes 45 minutes to get a tech on the phone - who cannot address the issue! And they close out the requests without fixing anything!

I am amazed that there are a couple of websites with only glowing positive reviews of startlogic. One is Startlogic - the other must be a shill!

Stay away - You will get burned!

Verdict : I thought I am the one having problems with this Dodge web host. DON'T EVER TRUST the so call 30 days money back guarantee with them. This is trap!!!!!

I signed up with this host in the early Feb, tried for 3 days and want to close the account. The following is what actually happens to my account,

Try searching for ticket center to submit the request, 2 days, CANíT FIND IT!
Email to ( support@startlogic-inc.com ), 3 days, no reply!
1) Live Chat, 3 hours 05 mins, in queue, give up!
2) Live Chat, 2 hours 45 mins, in queue, give up!
3) Live Chat, 2 hours 15 mins, in queue, give up!
4) Live Chat, 2 hours 53 mins, scheduled to close account on following day, promise to refund as advertised. 7 days after the request, still no refund,
5) Live Chat, 1 hour 27 mins, closed account, refund inquiry; Dodge replies! Receive NO refund. (still under 30 days money back period)

1) ~ 5) are Live Chat attempts. Their Live Chat are LONG waiting time, meant, rude and impatient. Frankly, they donít even bother to process your requests. Just delay your requests by not to reply.

According to Hosting Review, http://www.hosting-review.com/?gclid=CPCh4pKGs5ECFRsFagodRiOdew

They scored up to 94%. ( NO.1 ); My existing web host ONLY scored 89%. (They are more willing to listen & help, fast response, 24/7 Live Chat waiting time is usually within 15 mins, ticket system replied within 12~24 hours)

It seems they are ONLY capable of processing FAST (within few hours) when activate your account (register) & closing it. The rest of requests, you will have to wait ages. I use PayPal as paying method and this is the service and I received. If one uses Credit Card to pay for this, he/she will probably going to have MORE trouble in billing (randomly charged). I had search many sites and it seems there are bundles of people having the similar complains. (I am also one of them)

Before signing up with this dodge host. Be sure to check their refund policy. You will noticed that, they donít tell you too much of it (while others specify clearly). I am quite convenience they are trying to hide all these info from subscribers. Be Extreme careful with this host, stay away if possible.

Verdict : These people are as bad as I hope they get. Support if you can get a hold of them is incompetent. All they do (after you wait 40+minutes to get a hold of someone) is write up a ticket (which you could do yourself). Now, these tickets take days to address and usually the first response you'll get will just give you a canned answer so you will need to resubmit the request because some idiot did not spend time reading your first request.
They overwrite your data with older data randomly during the transition to a new server. Flip the DNS back and forth for no reason and then they will deny any of that happened. Do NOT go with these people because you will feel like punching them but you won't even be able to get a hold of them.

Verdict : So I just finished a phone call with StartLogic after spending 51 minutes waiting for them to answer. I called their billing dept because I had a question regarding a (partial) refund. Earlier this month I moved both of my domains. One of them I had to move to Livebooks because for you to have a Livebooks site, it has to be hosted by them. The other one is BlueHost (Love them! They pick up the phone the moment you call!) I was so frustrated with Startlogic that I decided to pay $150 more to just get away. Keep in mind that if you have a simple question to ask, you'll have to take a day off, because these people keep you on hold for so long you get so mad that you just give up. I work for a photographer whom I helped the other day move his two domains to a different host. I spent 120 minutes waiting for them to answer. Then I had to leave, so he spent additional 50 minutes. He gave up. Before migrating to another host, I had had 4 tickets open. So you open a ticket, they answer you (sometimes), but not necessarily solve your problem or answer your question, yet they close the ticket. You can then reopen the same ticket (in which case you shouldn't expect them to ever reply back), or you can submit a new ticket again. Basically you run circles like an idiot. So when you get to the point when you can't take it any more, take a day off, call them, turn your speaker phone on, and wait. Get The Godfather 1, 2 and 3, that's how long it'll take them to answer, and cancel your account. But wait, before you do so, read the contract, because they will charge you a $50 early cancellation fee!

Verdict : I was happy enough with them to start another site until they migrated to their new platform. They have lost all of my DB's, you now have to pay to install Gallery 2-for 'security reasons' and I cannot access or administer my old gallery. I have given them 3 weeks and numerous tickets; which they seem to close arbitrarily. Today their 'live' chat is a text message that I sent 4 hours ago and have yet to receive a response. I'm done and looking for a new host.

Verdict : We had a service contract for 2 years. After one year they cancelled our account without any explanation or reason. Initially we had a couple of test pages there and we didn't touch the account for months. And when we did come back, we could not login to VDECK.

Attempts to contact them initially to see what had happened came back in a week. Another few days to wait for another response. Finally gave up email support and called them directly. After couple of days of agony, it was then revealed that our account had been cancelled due to expiration (WHAT???) and our login name was given to someone who's site had the same first 7-8 chars. We were told to reregister the domain and account. That's BS. Tried our site and it's still there. We refused to reregister and have them reinitate the account since we don't want to pay for their mistake. We had a tough time convincing them that our domain is still up and we just could not login to VDECK. It took a long time until we could log back for maintenance. We were asked to supply the credit card statements and luckily we did have it (over 1 year old). If we didn't we would have to go through hurdles to get that.

Service is bad..they have live chat but that's not good either since you have to wait 2+ hrs for them to connect..and when they do you better be there to answer or you get disconnected within 5 mins. I've wasted hours because I took a break to do something else and come back to realize that I got cut off. The chat box initially tell you how many people were ahead of you and give an estimate that is 4x less than the real connect time. There is no live count to see if you were even getting closer to talking to anyone. Also their chat does not chime when connected so you wouldn't know even if you were at the computer.

In one instance, I almost got angry and smash the computer. I was in chat and notice that I needed a security question and security answer before they can help me (I don't recall the security details) It pointed me to their website, but I have no idea where in their site to change this. So here I was, in chat to ask them how to change the security question so I can use it to answer them for help..the rep told me that she could not do that. I told her that I just need them to point me to the website so I can change it myself. She then ask what the problem was again for 2-3 times after I explain it over and over. I repeated several times that I needed her to tell me or point me to the site so I can change the security question since I'm already logged in to Vdeck.

I don't know if I really trust this company with hosting my site. The service is really lacking. It was good a year ago when we can actually talk to the sales or technical support with ease. Nowadays, it's live chat and what a headache it is. They seem to want to get rid of me rather then resolving any of my issues.

Verdict : Bought a 24 month hosting from these on promotion. Service was bad. Site constantly slow. Emails sometimes just stop working without any notice - had to recreate all to resume. Some claimed features were also not available when requested (graphics libraries in particular). After 2 years of not wanting anything to do with them I found a large charge on my credit card for the next 2 years - no notifications of any sort - they even admitted themselves of their "technical glitches". Asked for refund - finally they have cancelled and refunded 50 dollars less. Contacted them again, but they were very unhelpful.

Verdict : I contacted STartlogic in September to transfer my domain name to them. I did not receive the support I needed to make this transfer. They charged my credit card at that time. In the month following I tried to get a hold of the person who first assisted me. I have called several times to try to get my money back. I contact Sales and get right through. They then transfer me to the refund department. I am put on hold. After 20 minutes, I give up. This has happened to me now 3 times. I want my money back.

We have experienced problems again and again since shortly after joining StartLogic in the spring of 2006. And for the past six months, it's been an unending nightmare. The whole site has been down, parts of the site have been down, parts have been corrupted beyond our ability to restore from backups. We were down for most of the month of June, and most of August. Start Logic blamed us, because they couldn't figure out what they had done. They finally figured out that yes, it really was on their end, and fixed it. No apologies for blaming us.

Our site store (osCommerce) has become so unreliable that traffic is virtually zero. And surprise - we're down again. We've been down for 4 days now. I finally got a response last night. It was "oh yes, I duplicated your problem, but now you have to answer your security question." (This is new) "And since you haven't set one up, you have to go set one up and then answer it." (And they can't fix a site they've obviously broken in the meantime because...?)

I'm done. I've given them more than their fair chance. I just signed up a few minutes ago for a new host who seems to have a much better track record.

I don't understand how StartLogic is still in business, but it's a good thing we have other venues where we can sell our products. We would be out of business by now if we depended on StartLogic.

Verdict : Worst host ever. Horrible customer service. Been sitting on hold now for over 2 hours! Ton's of issues with VDeck. Problems never resolved. Transition to VDeck 3.0 is taking FOREVER. Don't be fooled by the StartLogic price. They suck (pardon my language). Save yourself the headache.

Verdict : Stop - Run as fast as you can away from Startlogic. This is the worst hosting company ever! I found this site because I'm looking for a good hosting company. I had been with www.softcomca.com for about 7 years and their price went up. They are a company located in Canada. I thought I would take this opportunity to transfer my domain to a USA company - to support the county I live in and love! Now I'm looking for a US hosting company that knows what it's doing. I took the ease of use at softcom for granted - I never had any problems with them. Back to Startlogic - they made the process of signing up with them very easy - that was the only easy thing about them. My site never worked. I could never assess my Vdeck. If you call for support you wait anywhere from a half an hour to four hours to talk to a tier 1 rep who will do nothing for you except process a ticket that won't be address correctly or at all. Then as another customer said in an earlier post. They will try to keep $50 as a set-up fee. I had to threaten with my lawyer to get the $50 back. Which to their credit they did finally give me back. Save your self a lot of time and trouble - don't choose Startlogic to host your site!

Verdict : Im suprised at all the negativity for startlogic, i started seraching for reviews, i was just curious if there were other options out there, and what people were using. I like startlogic, if their support ever takes more then 10 mins to answer, i hang up, and call back in a few hours, ussually they answer in 5 mins or less. My site is always up, sometimes a lil slow, but rarely. overall i am pretty happy, they are not heavily staffed which is a downfall, but they are working on upgrading everyone to vdeck 3.0, and i cant wait, they use 1.0 now.

FTP and everything works great, have 4 accounts that are used, no problems, sometimes from account creation to usability takes up to 5 minutes.

webmail works great too... this is an awesome option for any one that wants webmail with their own domain and massive storage!

Im happy with startlogic, i think they just need to hire more staff for support, and hire more staff to handle renewals and retention.

Verdict : I normally do not write reviews about a company unless they exceed my expectations or their customer service/support levels are horrendous. I decided to try StartLogic in October of 2005 and initially when I had contacted their sales department, the person I spoke with was very friendly and very helpful and made me feel like this was a great company to do business with. As a result of their pricing and my high expectations of their service level and the fact that they were ranked well among web hosts, I decided to give them a try. I signed up for a VPS account. Shortly thereafter, I began to experience issues, first it was with the setup of the VPS, this took about a week for them to resolve and actually get me online. Then after about a week after I had started working on an important project, it was determined that the VPS was not properly configured and it had to be reconfigured which took me offline for another few days. I experienced sporadic issues, but for the most part was able to get by and continue using them with few issues arising.

Then in early June, my client's site went offline for no apparent reason. I contacted support and did not recieve any type of response for 2 weeks, however, during that timeframe I tried to contact them numerous times via their help desk and even tried calling them, but everytime I waited approximately 20 minutes and would hang up due to the fact that noone would answer. I was finally contacted approximately 2 weeks later and in the reply they had informed that the ticket was escalated and that I would recieve a response shortly. Well, needless to say, shortly for them was another 2 weeks before I recieved another response, only after I threatened to cancel my account. In this response, they informed me it was my responsibility since the account was a VPS and if I wanted them to fix the issue and get my client's site back online, I would be charged. Well, that pretty much broke the straw on the camels back and I decided to cancel the account. I waited for over 30 minutes before I even was able to speak to a person at which point I was actually transferred to billing and had to wait for another 20 minutes. There option to access billing does not work and their support is beyond unsatisfactory.

I just tried to call back in to get a refund for my unused portion plus to request that I get a month's refund for the month my client's site was down with no apparent help from them to resolve the issue. However, after being on hold for 50 mins, I have decided to give up and take the loss. It is not worth the headache and anxiety to try to get a few dollars back.

I do not understand how a company with this level of customer service/support is rated in the top 10 for web hosting. I have been in the IT business for over 6 years and during that time, I have never seen a company show such disdain towards their customers as StartLogic has shown in my time with them. For those considering this company for your hosting services based on pricing, please reconsider and look at the big picture. Do you really want to save a few bucks and risk losing performance, support and reliability, when those are all vital to running a successful online presence? I highly recommend that you think twice before you do.

Verdict : Allright, so I signed up and transfered our website to SartLogic, back when DellHost decided to sell its shared accounts to a phony company, errendous issues, we needed a new server...

The ratings for StartLogic were way up there, rave reviews all over.

Then, last years, things went down hill. The website went offine for 1 week, no response from customer service. Finally got it back on.

Now, June 17 2007, 6 months later, We're at it again, it's been 5 days. I was told it was escalated to an admin, but the site is still offline with no email service. I was told something went wrong with a server migration. Looks like everybody left the boat however.

I also never received a response when I requested a subdomain 3 times in a row! Well, my email could have been down for a week and I didn't know it, but you would think my order would have gone throught after I talked with a server representative. Nope, 3 months, and still waiting...

Their service is cheap, the features are great. You get to speak to a rep almost right way...to no avail however.

Their reliabilty is TERRIBLE.

We still have 6 months on the contract, and that will be the end of it.

Verdict : I really like Startlogic. I have had many webhosts in the past, and this one is by far the best one I have been with.

Others I have tried are:

1and1,
Thirdsphere,
50megs

I do have to say that 50megs is also a very reliable website with good customer support, but Startlogic is also, and is priced better, especially for the space and the bandwidth you get.

The only thing that is the least bit restrictive about Startlogic is they don't allow unlimited domains, but for most people probably, they allow enough (9 or 10 domains).

Customer service is great. I never have to wait long if I want to call them, and so far they have been very good at resolving issues.

I pay for a year hosting in advance and get 5000mb space and 100gig bandwidth for about $70.00 a year. They have montly plans, but it's quite a bit cheaper by the year. If you still haven't decided on a web host, I suggest that you check Startlogic out.

Verdict : This site does not accept standard html code for forms that is produced by Dreamweaver, or probably other 3rd party tools. You have to use their form creation website that is clunky and of very limited capability. If you have a website that requires forms - do not host with startlogic.

Verdict : Several months ago I received a call from StartLogic to inform me that there was a problem with WebMin and therefore StartLogic recommended that I upgrade my server. Since I do not manage my server via cumbersome web interfaces I declined.

Then, when my server came up for it's yearly renewal, StartLogic refused payment and a salesman named James called me with the sad story that 'WebMin' was no longer supported and that I must upgrade my server as they were retiring support for my current server. And of course, the new price for their latest server line was now $479/year, up nearly 250% from the $199/year I had enjoyed.

I managed to negotiate the price down to $350 and I received assurances that I would have plenty of time to migrate some 30 websites to the new server. Two days later, they shut down my server. Tech support claimed that they had trouble charging my CC for renewal, despite the fact that they had already charged my CC $479 and that I would need to contact sales at 8am the next morning to resolve my problem.

Fortunately I was able to contact James who relayed various excuses including one that my domain name had expired, which it had not. All of this was delivered in a condescending tone. Red flags always appear whenever a salesman I do not know calls me 'buddy' and tells me not to worry, that I'll get through this.

This total disregard for my requirements and those of my customers is wholly unacceptable. The notion that James demanded that I drop everything I was doing to spend a week migrating 30 websites is arrogance at its best and implies that somehow I had managed to work myself into the StartLogic org chart and that I reported to James.

So James, good buddy, rather than increasing your revenues and commissions for StartLogic, you have alienated a long time customer who will never trust StartLogic again to host my websites.

You are fired. Your customers are not your employees.

Verdict : They have real good uptimes. I can guarantee that they will have a very good uptime.

However, their support is six feet under. Only one FTP account works and half the time, I can't even connect to the server with FTP... They are okay in terms of loading times.

Short, they are okay as long as you only need one ftp account, pretty good uptimes and almost 100% uptime.

Verdict : I have had my site with StartLogic since about 9/2006. It has been down at least 4 times and each time it does not recover until I contact StartLogic ... but the response I get from them, which has taken DAYS (2), is "works fine from here". There is never an explanation as to what the problem was, when it was fixed or that they are working to prevent it from happening again. They have one job to do, host my website and adhere to their OWN standards (99.9% uptime), which they are failing at.

At 5:00 am I found my site to be down, I sent a support request as Urgent and have not heard a word. I did an online chat and was told to contact support as they couldn't access it either ... I fully expect that I will get a reply, as I have in the past, that simply reads "works fine from here" and indeed it will be back up.

Remember that it isn't only your site that is unavailable, it may be your email too ... or maybe your email and not your site ... in either case, I have lost all faith that StartLogic is capable of providing a reliable service. Their tech support does not seem interested in resolving your issue, just marking your ticket as closed.

I could go into other issues as they relate to support but really the lack of reliability is enough to make me move my hosting services.

I am VERY disappointed.

Verdict : Where should I start? I know, it blows me away how this company is still in business. Technical support does not exist in any form. They never return calls or resolve issues appropriately. My site is down in some form about 50% of the time (email, database, web site, ssh... etc). Startlogic lacks the technical competency to be in the web hosting business. When ever I get any sort of response from these people it is after I have filed numerous trouble tickets, complained to sales, billing and technical support for days... to solve a simple problem. This has been the worst experience ever... I wish it on no one... SO BE WARNED, the pricing might look good... BUT THERE IS NOTHING OF SUBSTANCE BACKING IT UP... If I had the time and patience I would file a nice law suite against these people.

Verdict : We have a virtual server with this host. In the 3 months that we have been with them, they had 3 outages. The last one lasted over a day. There is no customer service at all. The live chat is useless, they have no knowledge at all of what is going on, they seem to be in India or something. The actual technicians leave at 5:00 o'clock even when there are problems. During normal times, when there are no problems, it takes about 30 to 45 mintues to get someone on the phone. When there is a problem, you cannot get anyone on the phone at all. Verdict : After promising for about a year that they would provide a 2 month time frame for switching to a long-promised upgrade to their web mail system, Startlogic suddenly decided to switch over with no notice whatever, trashing my address books and folders full of important e-mails. Now my email doesn't work at all, and in fact has begun deleting messages that I haven't read yet. There is no response to emails, no one answers the phone, when I do finally get ahold of a real human they offer no solutions and promise to call back, but never do.

Verdict : Account was due to renew in Sept 2006. I contacted them in June notifying them of cancelling the account. They responded wanting more info which I sent to them. The support ticket was opened and closed the same day. September 12th, 2006 came about and my bank account was charged the amount for renewal. I contacted them a second time now informing them of the mistake made. They offered me two free months, which I declined and asked for my money back. I gave them all the info they requested and they stated it would take 7 to 14 days to receive the refund. As of today, September 29th, 2006, I have yet to receive my refund. Verdict : The sales people lied through their teeth. I was told that there were backups done every 24 hours. Come to find out, there is no backup service.

I was in the middle of backup my data by hand when another user on my VPS restarted the services, rendering my data worthless.

The company then billed me $50 to retrive my data, then notified me that there is in fact no backup to use.

I lost almost 10k worth of data in a matter of minutes.

Attempts at getting a refund for my wasted time were fruitless. This copmany really does not care about it's customers.

My two e-mails to tech support went unanswered (it's been 13 hours since I sent the first one).

I'm trying to cancel (they supposedly have a 30-day money-back guarantee) but I can't reach anyone.

Verdict : Just as with iPower, I have had very negative results with StartLogic support. Their tech support people are very impatient and really do not listen to you when you explain something, and then try to tell you to fix it by doing exactly what you have already tried that failed! They also do not read the explanations you give in the emails, and it took 3 and 4 days to get a response, and then only after I threatened.

I was offered a free month of hosting which I accepted, and felt this was fair. They billed me anyway!! I decided to cancel both of my accounts, and they acknowledged by offering me another free month. I asked them what purpose that would server since they didn't honor the first month that they offered?? I declined the offer and received a support ticket on each of the account cancellations. They billed me again on the second site. I had submitted the cancellation request a full 6 days before the second site was billed.

When I sent them individual emails for each site requesting a refund for the last month billed on each site, all I got was a reply from the billing dept.telling me that they had processed the cancellation. This was finally done on August 14 or 15! Nine days after the initial request!

I feel that they owe me the $6.95 that they billed me on the site where I was supposed to get a free month, plus another $6.95 for the second site that they billed me for 6 days after my cancellation request.

I went through this with Yahoo, and finally contacted my credit card company who agreed with me after reading all of the emails that I faxed them. Everyone should save every bit of correspondence regarding issues with hosting sites, and pursue them with their banks and credit card companies.

Many of these high rated sites are beginning to develope some shady business practices along with the deteriorating support that they offer. It really makes me wonder what purpose these webmaster review sites serve? None that I can see. Everyone should do a searc for the "(web host) user reviews" and not "webmaster reviews". That is where I made my mistake.

Verdict : I cannot recommend this web hoster to anyone and here are some of the details.

First, the "vdeck" has very limited capabilities for modifying/maintaining your site. There are some pre-installed scripts (guestbook, search) which require some kind of trick to get them to work. Even if they do work, they are very primitive. Don't bother looking for online documentation, because there isn't anything helpful there. Don't bother submitting a support ticket either, because it will not get answered. Don't bother with live chat, because no one there will offer any real help. What startlogic does instead of offering technical support is to leave users to fend for themselves on the help forums. By posting there you may or may not get an answer. You may also get flamed. The forums are not moderated very well. Since startlogic offers free hosting to anyone who wants to be a mod you can imagine what kind of mods are on the startlogic forums.

If you are trying to install a script, you might get lucky and find the paths somwhere in the forum archives. One annoyance when debugging is that any time you edit, the CHMOD reverts to 644 so you do edit, change permissions, test, edit, change permissions, test etc. This is a bother because of how startlogic has set up where to edit and where to change CHMOD.

With so many better hosters out there it is not worth struggling with one that is as unprofessional as startlogic.

Verdict : Startlogic, sucks. double charge and over charge my money, and doesn't seem to refund my money. over charge me 120 dollars. I had called everyweek, and girls work there, she told me that will refund my money back, but three week for startlogic to process, not even done this one sample thing. alse , the tech support sucks too, everytime I call, I have to wait for 2 hours on phone. Over all, I am not recommand anyone to host with startlogic, because it does nothing at all, Only one thing it do, It eat your money.

Verdict : Since we signed with Start Logic, it's become a monthly occurance for our web site to be down. DOWN is the name of the game with Start Logic. We have been down up to one week at a time...sometimes twice a month! It's always some new and exciting reason. We are on our 2nd down for the month of July, 2006 ... 5 days so far this week. It's is at the point of being totally ridiculous! You just have to laugh about it. Needless to say, we are looking for a new server.

I've purchased hosting package last week.I uploaded my files in to the
server. After that I uploaded my php files we've seen that mysql server
doesn't support the "latin5_turkish_ci" language. Please install the
language package to the mysql server so I can start using my host service.

Dear Client
Thank you for contacting StartLogic technical support.

Unfortunately the language pack installation requires the mysql server to be recompiled which would result in excessive downtime for several hundred client websites. You may want to consider the virtual server or dedicated server package which will allow the language pack and give you control to recompile mysql to utilize the new language pack.

We have recently updated our knowledge base center. Please visit http://startlogichelp.com for all the information you need to get started.

Thank You,

I requested to cancel my service and return my money in May 31 2006. When I received my credit card statement it was shown that I was charged 6,95$ again. Is this a scam? You haven't returned my money yet, on top of it you're charging me again without my authorization? This is illegal. Fix this mistake of yours as soon as possible otherwise I'll do anything to protect my own rights!

Verdict : In June 2005, I paid in advance for a year of web hosting with StartLogic, then cancelled my account after 3 months (September 2005) due to complete indifference on their part to a serious problem with their email hosting (involving, as far as I could tell, a spam filter somewhere deleting various sent or received messages with no warning or error messages of any kind.) I asked for a refund of charges I paid in June 2005, not really expecting to receive one. (I moved my domain to thehostcompany.com, which so far has treated me well.)

The real problem with StartLogic came later, however. In May 2006, I received the first of several email renewal notices, stating that my credit card would be charged for another year of service on 6/2/06. After several frustrating rounds of emails and phone calls with StartLogic, I learned that my account was never closed. The renewal charge appeared on my credit-card statement, and I of course disputed it with my credit-card company. On 6/12/06, I finally received verbal assurance from StartLogic, over the phone, that my account had finally been closed and my credit-card information removed from their system. I asked for written confirmation of both of those facts, which I am currently awaiting.

Assuming my credit-card company agrees to reject the recent charge (which seems likely), the only real damage is a significant waste of my time. I'm posting my comments here for the benefit of others who may experience problems (or, ideally, avoid experiencing problems) with StartLogic in the future.

Verdict : I opened an account with StartLogic and things were bad from the start. It took nearly 4 weeks to get the account activated correctly and they re-created the virtual server (whiping out every change and configuration I had made so far) twice. I was refunded for two months of service so I let it slide.

Now, a bit over 6 months later, I lose SSH access completely. I am told that the server needs to be recreated again to correct the problem. This entails downtime and I have to download, recompile and install all my software (again!) such as apache, mysql, php (+ gd lib) which I had configured perfectly to suit my needs. I've had it!

Customer Support
----------------
Their support is a ticket system like everyone else. They have live chat from the site (which never helped me very much) and a 1-800 number. You can also submit a trouble ticket from their site. All tickets take almost exactly 24 hours for a response (working days only! No response on weekend!). If a ticket goes back and fourth between the customer and the support staff, it takes 24 hours each time. Some of my tickets had 10-15 replies before it was "solved" (by solved, I mean they whiped the vps and started over again), so it took about two weeks to resolve. Better yet, there's an urgency indicator on the form to submit from the web. Having lost shell access to my server as I needed to make an update, I figured my ticket deserved the status "URGENT". Guess what? 26 hours later I got my reply.

Reliability
-----------

Server uptime and network speed is considerably good. It did get slow at times, but I never confirmed if it was my home connection slowing down at peak times or the server. SSH is very slow though. Sometimes a few seconds before keystrokes appear. They also use some port-knocking security techniques where you have to open the website with your browser before you can open an SSH session. This got a bit annoying and I'm not sure how much security it adds.

The mid-range reliability rating I gave was for the fact that I now no longer know how long my server will be up before it needs to be whiped and recreated again.

Pricing
-------

The pricing is excellent and almost impossible to beat for a VPS. I am in the process of trying to find another host that is not too far from this price range and I'm having a hard time.

Verdict : Hi, I am the webmaster of www.lovestory.ro and for 6 months the website was hosted by Startlogic (a ProLogic account).
Everything went just fine until the site was suspended (5th mai 2006) without a reason or warning (it was paid until november 2006!).
Every attempt to ask for help from Startlogic support team was without success. The support live chat person told me to e-mail at support or abuse, but every ticket submited was treated with unacceptable indifference.
Here is a link to the submited tickets: http://support.startlogic.com/index.php?_a=tickets&_m=viewmain&email22=lovestory.ro@laposte.net&ticketkey22=50df99
At the end I have bought another webhosting account (from another provider of course). I could not recover the website and database (with over 20,000 users) from Startlogic.
This is it, and I don't want to hear anymore about Startlogic.

Verdict : They are by no win the awards for the WORST WEBHOSTNG COMPANY in business. I really dont know how they can even claim that they have 100% customer satisfaction when they just stink at the job. I signed up with them on the 11th of March and in 4 days realised that they do not meet my needs and requested them for a full refund as per their 30 day money back guarentee. It took them two days to come back to me and after 3 emails then they agreed to give me a refund as asked for 15 business days for the refund to appears in the credit card. I said to myself nice people.

I was so wrong. The next month they bill me again for an account that does not even exist with them. Wrote back to them and first of all Yasmin flat denied me a refund saying that i am out of the 30 day period. After a lot of correspondance going up and down they finally agreed to give me the refund and asked another 15 days again. After 15 days again. NO REFUND. So i write back to them again to find the same lady yasmin again saying that first i am not eligible for a refund. I finally tell her dont give me this BS and then she gives me another of her same statements to give them another 15 days. After 15 days now they come up with a new story today. They just tell me that i am not entitled for a refund. No reason as to why or nothing. But just NO REFUND.

What kinda company is this. First of all there is no co-ordination between their billing and support depts and makes us customers suffer. I have gone to the extent of making a pdf file by copying and pasting all the conversations and sending it to the billing dept cause they dont look at the ticket history. What kinda customer service is this.

Can someone please tell me as to where can i complain inorder to get my money back. I live in Kuwait so i really dont know the procedures for a company in states. There must be a consumer affairs dept but i just cant seem to find it out.

My recommendation. NEVER EVER SIGH UP FOR THEM. THEY ARE THE BIGGEST CHEATS ONLINE.

Verdict : I highly suggest that you stay away from this host and their automated support sytem. Usually I never have a problem with a host, but once I decided that I no longer wanted to use this host anymore (within the alloted amount of refund time), I attempted to cancel. The support is TERRIBLE. Not twice did I have to attempt to have a help request, but FIVE TIMES. Each time they replied to my ticket with the same automated message and CLOSED the ticket and offered me two months of free hosting. If I added all the months together I'd have at least half a year. Each time I tried to open a new ticket with the information they requested, which was my site password, each time I recieved the same message and the ticket was closed before I could even respond. I kept speaking of my previous tickets say "As mentioned in my previous ticket ticketID...." they disregarded that and posted the same message as before.

Apparently they one have one cancellation support member, I kept my cool while creating account cancellation support tickets. Startlogic, blame your staff member named Yasmin Sheriff for this review. I have emails as proof of the tickets which she 'replied' to and closed. I provided the information several times, and she still closed the tickets. THEIR STAFF MEMBERS CANNOT READ. That is my final conclusion. I was polite through the whole ordeal, I was about to start including obscenities in my tickets. AVOID THEM AND THEIR TERRIBLE SUPPORT.

Verdict : I signed up w/ StartLogic nearly 2 years ago. Since that time, I've had many, many instances where email went down and the website was unavailable. I just lived with it because 1) I was already w/ them as a webhost and 2) it was relatively short lived.

Aside from that, heaven help you if you need some real support people. They couldn't be more lame if they tried. I encountered a problem and spoke w/ 4 different people (2 live chat, 2 from the 1-800#). The live chat people were total idiots, frankly. No help whatsoever. I was amazed! The techies both gave me differing information. I ultimately was told to submit an email to a location where whoever works there can't be contacted by phone...only email. Surprise, surprise, it's been 24hrs and I'm still waiting for a response to this very serious situation I needed help with. Their customer/technical support is worthless. That should be the cornerstone to a webhost's business. In StartLogic's case, it's the least of their concerns apparently.

Verdict : I have hosted 3 websites with startlogic. They do give you a lot of resources for the price, but you get what you pay for in reliability.

The reason we are moving from startlogic is because of the way they handle problems when they occur. A couple of examples to illustrate.

1. A worm took over the server we were hosting on which added a script to every PHP file on the server. (This affected all of the sites hosted on the server.) The damage was that anytime a person viewed a page on the server it would open a file which contained the virus in it. My gripe is that even though they were aware of the problem, they didn't tell their customers about it. The reason: they didn't want customers who didn't notice the problem to become upset. I think that is dishonest.

2. (This is an extension of problem 1). Because we were lucky enough to find the script that the worm had imbedded in our PHP scripts we were able to fix our site and make significant security changes to our site to prevent further problems. A day later, Startlogic resorted to restoring the server to a previous point in time to get rid of the worm that was still affecting the server. Needless to say all of our site upgrades and fixes were reverted to an earlier date. Because our we had changed our DB authentication just in case it had been compromised by the worm, all of our dynamic e-commerce pages broke when the code was reverted to an earlier version. Again, startlogic did not inform us that the change had been made. A whole day went by before we were alerted to the problem.

All in all I think there are some honesty issues at play here. They are not concerned about customers and their needs, they are trying to protect their reputation and keep customers by quickly hiding problems, even when a little honesty would have kept this loyal customer from seeking service elseware.

Maybe its acceptable for a personal site but for business its not.

Verdict : My first few months with Startlogic were unremarkable. The first sign of problems were some unanswered emails about small issues. When I did get answers, I'd get different answers from different techs. I started to think they were making things up. Then, one day my phpBB forum went completely haywire. Upon further investigation, they had "upgraded" my phpBB version, undoing all of my modifications--hours and hours of work. The worst part is that they denied doing it, saying it was against their policy, claiming someone must have hacked into my site, nicely separating all my modifed files into a separate folder called "bb_vulnerable" and ugrading my version to the most current. It took a few days to sort that out, and before long, I was having issues again. At the :35 mark of every hour, my site would just stop loading. I notified them right away, and it took over a month for them to fix it. Because the main purpose of my site is the very busy message board, this was a serious problem. It turned out that they were running a cron job once an hour. A few months ago, during the fires in Arizona, my site crashed and when my husband called, they apologized and told him that "flaming rats" had run into their server room from the wildfires and chewed through the cables. Yet when we had a similar problem during Hurricane Katrina, the tech alluded to the fact that the issues were related to the hurricane. In hindsight, I should have left a long time ago, but now, my site is crawling and they have been no help. My 400 users all have the same problem, but they claim it loads quickly for them. Right now, the whole site is down. I submitted a ticket for help, and several minutes later, I got a canned response referring me to the knowledgebase and closing the ticket. I re-opened it, telling him I had already checked that, further explained my issue, and several minutes later, got the exact same canned response. I have a feeling it's a monkey at the computer trained to just close tickets instead of actually fixing problems. So now, I can't get my email, and on a night that the members are supposed to be celebrating a milestone, the whole site is inaccessible. I had planned to switch after the new year, and was even considering trying to hold on and beg someone there to help me so I wouldn't have to switch, but this is too much. I'm finished with them.

Verdict : I chose startlogic to host the site for my personal chef service on the advice of a web technician. Very early on I experienced problems updating the site. The first time I updated a single page, the remaining pages went blank; I had to re-load everything. Subsequently I made changes, but they were not reflected on the site. When I called to inquire, I asked if it was possible that there was a lapse between making the changes and having them appear on the site. The startlogic technician sneered at the stupidity of the suggestion, but it turned out that this was in fact the problem.
Just before Thanksgiving, my site went down. I called to find out why, and the technician said it would be back up in 20 minutes. The next day, when it was still down, I called again. A different technician (who had no record of my prior call) said it would be back up in an hour. Day three -- still down -- a third technician said they needed 8-12 hours. Day four -- still down -- a fourth technician said 24 hours more. This went on for a week. Shortly after the site was finally back up, it went down again, and the same abysmal service scenario was repeated. This time the site was down for four days. I have filed complaints with the better business bureau and the consumer protection department of the attorney general's office. I am in the process of transferring my domain to another host.
The negative reviews that I am reading here sound hauntingly familiar. In my view, anyone who experiences problems of this magnitude should complain to consumer protection authorities.

Verdict : I have a 'hobby' website that is loaded with lots of car video and high res pics - hence, my primary need was bandwidth.
I went with StartLogic's ProLogic plan - the sales people were nice, and support people helped me set up my first site on line. The up time was excellent and their control panel was very good.
I quickly realized that the 100GB bandwidth was not going to cut it - on the other hand, I feel as if their bandwidth monitoring was screwy as I just don't generate as much GB now. Their incremental bandwidth is extremely expensive to add on (it's in 5GB chunks which is ludicrous). Their sales people were completely unwilling to cut me any sort of deal to increase bandwidth - this was my only complaint.
Overall, a very good experience and I would recommend them w/o hesitation.
I left them to go to CANACA.com - please see my review on them - CANACA was terrible terrible terrible.

Verdict : For the record, I work for a very large real estate company as their Dir of IT.

You'd think an email host would have the ability to let you email AOL users. Startlogic cannot setup their own reverse DNS which makes it impossible to email AOL and Earthlink users.

After getting some kid salesman on his first day who sold me the wrong package for my ASP website, I then had to reupload my files to a new package and resetup all 250 email accounts. (He apparently was fired the next day because he didn't show back up - I congratulate him) I was angry about that until I learned that their Windows Logic plan DOES NOT include SPAM filtering. So I was a little bit angrier then because real estate agents get lots and lots of spam. But when I learned that I would never be able to send emails to AOL users?!?!?!?! You know, half of the people on any real estate agent's contact list?

No way, no how, do not pass go, not worth it, worst kind of hosting service you can get, not worth the cheap price, never!

Datapipe is amazing! I've never received such great service and it's nearly instant when I need a change made.

Verdict : I have the VPS account with StartLogic and therefore any softwear problems I would have would be due to my own doing. I therefore can't comment on their shared hosting. The server is fast expecially when downloading files to the server through ssh, getting speeds up to 5 Mbit/sec.

They didn't have the most current version of MySQL or PHP preinstalled, or Apache. Therefore, I installed them without problem on the FreeBSD OS that they supplied. They provide the Webmin control pannel, which helps, though they didn't have the most current stable version of webmind. I also had to install that as well.

One thing they do not provide is as web statistics package. I've attempted to install webalizer, but it requires so many dependencies, which had not been installed, that I gave up.

Overall the VPS plan in good for those who already know how to run a server, or want to learn. However, the typical or casual user will not want to use it.

Verdict : StartLogic sounds at first like a good deal. They're upfront with info which apparently seems comprehensive, use plain language and offer visual aid walkthroughs to get started - this and their high uptime claim got me signed up.

But just under 2 months in, I got a warning saying I was 90percent of my "soft limit" allowance and should delete files (the link to "additional services" in that message returned a page-not-found error). Regardless of what problem ("soft limit" or something else), I was disappointed by the quality customer service. (I'd e-mailed them previously about a problem and not got a reply but I coped without it.) Their FAQ page was empty and says they'll write a FAQ when they figure out what the frequently asked questions are. StartLogic hadn't mentioned "soft limit" anywhere in their Getting Started, Knowledge Base (help pages) or Host Manager (account manager + help pages). I e-mailed to ask what "soft limit" meant and how to remedy it; got no reply. I rang their 24/7/365 support line, held for 26 minutes (at international call rates), got no reply and no hint as to when I'd be answered - it's just the ringtone. I expect at night PST they have few staff so one should be prepared to wait. I submitted three support tickets (as the system doesn't work properly). The system says a reply was sent to my e-mail address, and it wasn't, so I rang the 24/7/365 support again, was answered, and told "soft limit" is the maximum number of files allowed on the server at any one time. I discovered that, in effect, they penalise you with a limit (which I at least don't find generous) if you have small files but take up little server space, as opposed to having fewer but bigger files, which doesn't seem fair. There's no remedy except to take their account which is a server (customer provides absolutely everything). I feel they should've included details (including the definition!) of "soft limit" in their help pages which people read before deciding whether to sign up, so that would-be customers can take it into account when deciding whether to sign up. I've suggested that they do so.

Another (comparatively minor) problem with StartLogic is that it takes a minute, occasionally longer, to get connected in order to upload or delete files when using an FTP program (I don't know the times re their own uploading program but you can only do very small uploads at a time with their program), and it also takes nearly a minute to "refresh" the display after an upload has been done (regardless of dial-up or broadband). This increases the time taken to manage uploads if one has to go into lots of different directories. I doubt this is the result of delays between Europe and the UK as I've haven't usually had that amount of delay with other webhosts.

I also found their labels and links to certain help/support pages are the wrong way round, e.g. to submit a ticket you must click "view ticket status" and to view ticket status you must click "submit a ticket". When I told them, they said they've known for a long time but can't easily change their website. I suggested they could e-mail all their customers to ensure customers can get access to the support ticket page as not everyone would think to check all the links on the page in the source code as I did, but the suggestion didn't go down. I also told them about broken links elsewhere on site and was asked for the URLs but when I couldn't give them but could give the names and description of the pages, they lost what little interest they'd had. I'd've thought they could've used their own Link Checker when creating the pages (the Link-Checker is in the Marketing subfolder, by the way, rather than the more obvious tools or admin. folders - it's a useful tool once found), and I found their apparent lack of interest in correcting errors on their site to be off-putting.

Verdict : Hi everyone

I was using free host to trial a web site, then decided to move to the startlogic, while trying to upload MySQL data found two issues with their myadmin implementations. one is the privileges so they fixed it but now I can see everyone else database list and only access my own (I don't want to see other people DB's), other with load file, spend few hours to get the file ready, try to use it produce an error so, I reported and answer is, it is disabled. Last resort was to upload data using insert statements in an sql file but that will only work if your file is about 1Mb zipped, if bigger it will fail. it took long time to upload 120K records. After all this data in it takes about 3 to five minutes load the page while that same page at free host will load in a blink of eye. So I decided to have a chat with online support person and following is the conversations (I wonder is it really worth paying startlogic for all the hassles while I can keep using my free host which is really free of charge and free of hassle)

Following is a great piece of customer service.

Verdict : Startlogic - I used Startlogic for approx. 6 mos. for a Musician's Forum running a PHP Forum. The first 2 months were fine. Bandwidth for upload was slower than usual, but, I didn't think anything of it. After the site had been running 3-4 months, speed degraded drastically. At month 5 I sent a "trouble ticket" regarding this issue to customer support. No response. Then on New Years Eve 2004 a large part of our data "dissapeared". I called Startlogic and tech support saw "no issue". They said they would check into it and "get back to me". No one ever got back to me, but, that afternoon the site went down briefly. While it was down, I discovered they were taking it upon themselves to restore my data to 12/28/2004. I called them "while" they were doing this, and they said "they didn't see anything". Nonetheless, 7 days of data was destroyed by them in the process. After this happened, I called them to discuss what they did, and when I asked if they had a log for that type of process being run by their technicians they said "no". Then I said "so, any one of your support people can go in and delete my entire site, and you would have no record or log of it happening, is that correct?".. (Mind you I'm speaking to a supervisor at this point)his reply was (and I quote) Yup... So needless to say, I moved my domain to another provider immediately. If you want to put up a website for a paperclip collection, or family photos, or some "fun" thing, they are cheap and the vdeck is easy to operate. Otherwise, stay "far away" from them. In addition, I believe that their "chat support" is farmed out overseas as it is "extremely" difficult to deal with that area of the support team.

Verdict : I've been with Startlogic now for about 6 months. They have been very good so far. I dont remember the servers going down at all since I signed up.

Although i havent had much interaction with support staff ( a good thing I guess), the little bit i have had they have been fast and intelligent responses.

Thanks Startlogic

Verdict : Startlogic seemed like a great idea until I needed to get email using their "webmail" interface. The application runs on non standard http ports (above 8000). This is fine if you are always on a unblocked connection. However if you ever want to check email and are within a corporate intranet with adequat security you may have problems. I am not able to get an adequate response from startlogic as to why the run on non-standard ports. Therefore I am forced to find a new hosting solution for my company site.
