I have used Stokia for two separate websites and I have not had any serious problems until three days ago when our website disappeared. . . . .there is no phone number for support - only an email which I get no replies from after 3 days. Granted, it is Thanksgiving Day weekend but 3 days with no website and no service is no good in my opinion. It would be worth it to me to spend a little more and get some service with the account. It is cheap and has worked so far, but something fishy may be going on - I would be suspicious of this company for the time being!
My website was more times down than up. My emails were mysteriously disappearing. Neither The Stokia Network nor the owner Dantor Communications, LLC responded to my emails and phone calls. I am stun that somebody – DANTOR COMMUNICATIONS, LLC using name THE STOKIA NETWORK can run this kind of business in Michigan. I paid for the service, but my website and email service was down. They even prevented me from retrieving my website files and my emails. I think what they are doing is illegal.
I have multiple sites hosted with them; have been a customer for about seven years. They no longer answer support requests. Their telephone and fax numbers go nowhere. They recently accepted my money for three accounts, but did not renew my domains with the registrar. They stole my money. I paid, and have no web sites! I am filing complaints with the BBB, iC3.gov, and with local law enforcement agencies where the company is located. This used to be a reputable company, but now they are nothing more than low-life thieves!
I have used this company for years. Over the last 6 weeks or so, a number of my websites have gone down; for weeks at a time. There is no response to e-mails, the telephone and fax also do not work. This company also has control of my domain, so I can't even change hosting because they have to edit my name servers. I have more than 15 sites with them, and I am afraid that each one is going to die a slow death. Some of my accounts have been paid YEARS in advance.
The person, who manages this business, is clearly incapacitated, DEAD, or on a very long vacation. Either way, we, their paying clients are the ones suffering.
I am so very disappointed, and seem to have no means of recourse.
If the people or person at StoKia.com happen to be reading this, please fix our accounts! We need our websites!
My site has been down for what seems forever. No response from my messages of any sort at any time. Extremely difficult to remove my domains from their clutches. Really quick with sending reminders to renew their services, though. I wouldn't recommend Stokia to anyone. Never. Ever. I can't say enough about how poor their "customer service" is. Stay away from these guys! If you are foolish enough to use them you will eventually be: angry, sad, depressed, embarrassed, and harassed by your clients. I'm ready to fly to Michigan and look these guys up. They really should be shut down. (After I somehow can get my domains to another server.) I wish I had more space and time. I could go on...
For the past few years we were very happy with the service, but in the last 2 months, we have had our site down and no one to talk too in regards to the problem. Over and over again we have sent request via e-mail and no answer, as if the owners or the one person who seems to be handling the whole operation was abducted by martians. The price is great but what good does it do if you are running your company website and no one could access your link or worst you are not able to communicate with the people that help your business stay afloat. Very unprofessional and to say the least reliable.
My grade to this company is an "F" for failing to attend to their costumer needs.
Very cheap and lots of features Easy management. Some downtimes. From 2003 - 2007, support (email only) was pretty darn good. This past year (2008) it has been HORRIBLE! Support just doesn't answer. One one critical issue, it took five requests over 3 weeks to get a response. The response didn't help, the website went down and still no response. **This webhost is good for "playing/experimenting" but it is not suitable for a public website with an audience**
The truly bad aspect to Stokia is their customer support. Their price is good, but what good is an inexpensive service if you can't use it? They are very, VERY slow to respond to support questions. Sometimes they don't respond at all.
Stokia has the worst support for any product or service I have ever seen. I got by using their service for a couple years and renewed with them a few months ago (because of the hassle of switching everything to a new host). But now I'm stuck. The passwords and UIDs I was provided don't work. As fundamental as just being able to edit a webpage is, I can't get any support from them. They just don't respond at all.
I would recommend not throwing your money away on Stokia. Pay a little more and get a service that provides realistic support.
I've hosted dozens of sites for myself, clients and friends with Stokia.com over the years and have been reasonably happy with the value of their service. Stokia appears to be a subsidiary of Dantor Communications (dantor.com). 200 MB for only $30-$35 a year is an excellent value for an entry-level shared e-mail/web hosting package. The support is through e-mail only, which has been helpful, but very spotty. A telephone number is provided, but phone support is almost non-existant. From the 3 dozen times I've tried calling over the years, I've only reached a live person maybe 2-3 times (who usually told me to use e-mail anyway). Dantor provides a toll-free number, but the voicemail doesn't announce any business name and appears to go to somebody's cellphone. Most of the time, the e-mail responses I've gotten were within a couple hours (often times even within 30-60 minutes), but sometimes I wouldn't even get a response for days, if at all. Through my experience in working with Stokia, I get the impression that there's really only one person responsible for the entire operation of systems, billing, support, etc. The network always performs well, but availability is spotty. There seem to be periods of time where there are system-wide outages for reasons that are never identified ahead of time or even after the fact. For example, I had a customer who noticed she couldn't access her e-mail. The problem lasted for an entire morning and affected everyone except for maybe one client hosted with Stokia! Technical support has never replied with an explanation of any of their outages. Compared with other providers, there aren't that many features available, but the service makes e-mail account and website setup simple, even for a beginner. I wouldn't recommend Stokia for any business where website and e-mail uptime are critical or even important. For a little more peace of mind, I personally have moved myself and my clients over to Sonet7 hosting (LiquidWeb) which I like a lot. However, if you can withstand spotty uptime and support in exchange for a great low price, give Stokia a try!
