Having just read a fairly negative review of Tollon services, I would just like to redress the balance by adding a comment or two:
1) Yes, Tollon is slightly more expensive than some more popular ISPs but, having experienced the appalling customer service of some ISPs, I would say that the excellent level of customer support provided by Tollon is well worth the extra cost.
2) Having been a customer of Tollon for around 5 years, I have been consistently very impressed with their support (having often dealt with the support staff member mentioned in the other review). Using the Tollon support ticket system has been easy and Tollon staff always get back to me promptly - which is very important when developing award-winning e-business applications !-)
3) The support staff know their stuff extremely well - and offer technical information in an extremely polite and informative way - I've always found staff very helpful and I would have no hesitation in recommending Tollon to others.

My 3-4 years experience of using the web host "www.TOLLON.net" was soured by their money grabbing attitude. I therefore cancelled the account in disgust. I DO NOT RECOMMEND TOLLON TO ANYONE.

Thanks for your email, in the past "Phoebe (ka Leung IP)"
has configured folders as IIS applications free of charge.
What should be provided as part of customer services is being charged at an exorbitant rate.
I have been a tollon customer for many years, if this folder is not
configured free of charge then i shall
take my web hosting requirements else where.
(on many occasions i have recommended tollon to corporate clients, i shall not even mention tollon in future, should you insist on this charge.)

Hi Nigel,
We bill a minimum of 0.5 hours for any chargeable work and adding a new IIS virtual directory is now classed as chargeable.
Adding a new IIS virtual directory is chargeable for two reasons:
1. It takes time to do. Not long but certainly more than 10 seconds.
2. Having additional virtual directories consumes additional resources on a server because a virtual directory is an additional application domain with its own Session state, Application state etc etc.
We calculate for each new shared server rig the maximum number of sites we can host and still provide good performance and responsiveness. i.e. each user keeping to their standard business plan config.
If however 50 customers each want one or more additional virtual directories then that reduces the number of websites that server can host and still continue to maintain its responsiveness/performance.
Reducing the number of websites on a server also reduces its revenue generating ability. That's why we charge for additional virtual directories because they are not a free resource and it would be irresponsible of us to treat them as such.
Maybe some other hosting companies hand them out but this is ultimately to the detriment of their customers hosting experience in the longer term.
