I have used them for more than 3 years, about 1 year ago they forced me to switch my sites over to their a new panel; it never worked, updates to IIS disappear without reason, the vdeck does not let you make any changes and it takes their support hours to fix a broken website. I moved all but 1 of my sites to another hosting provider and cannot wait until I have switched the last site
I used webhost4life for a number of years and last year they decided to switch their control panel, something they said would take a couple of weeks dragged on for months. My main problem is billing central area is very vague and not descriptive and when I would query a charge they would give the same vague answer as the billing central. I would ask what specific domain that is being charged for and they could not tell me.
Their customer service has many times asked me if it s okay to hold for three minutes, so I would do something while I am waiting to find the customer service rep responded after 30 secs and they disconnected the chat because I did not respond in around 15 seconds.
Three of our websites has been hacked due to the server not being properly updated and patched, and the rep would always claim they have no idea what as happened, when I did my research it says the type of hack that was used occurs when the server is not patched properly. I thought after the first time they would learn their lesson and keep their server up to date,I guess that was too much to ask.
Last but not least they charged me for a service guaranteeing me that it would be able to rectify my problem, after they performed their service they said the problem could not be rectified and they could not refund me because it was against their policy.
Stay away from Webhost4life, there are much better solutions.
I honestly don't even know where to start. Long story short my sites were down about 50% of the time. I saw many different errors but all seemed related to them trying to host way too many sites on the same server:
Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
Their customer service is terrible. The only redeeming thing about them is their pricing however that is totally nullified by the amount of time your sites will be down.
DO NOT, FOR ANY REASON, USE THEM AS YOUR HOSTING COMPANY.
i have used webhost4life for about 10 years now. i've hosted multiple sites and have had several active accounts. i've steered clients to them - their support was responsive, you could call at any hour and talk to a live tech support agent, and uptime was great.
THEN THEY SOLD THE COMPANY. apparently some other company bought them and it has been ridiculous ever since. they 'migrated' my site to a new platform a year ago and it has never really worked since. at this time i have 3 client sites left at wh4l along with some dev stuff. they excel at making me look like an idiot. the sites take 90 seconds to load (backend sql is overloaded and times out). i am busy moving these last 3 sites today and thought i would pass on my experience.
I am one of their recent customers and our site hosted on their power server has been going down more frequently. When we call tech support, they fix temporarilly and site goes down again. We are a start up and lost lot of customers due to webhost4life's inefficiency. We are looking at moving to other provider.
I dont recommend this provider. Same like the other, the problem came when they make a new platform. This is very sucks. Now, I host my sharepoint site with http://www.asphostportal.com. And they have good customer support. Asphostportal YES and WebHost4Life NOT RECOMMENDED.
If I could rate lower than one I would. I have been hosting with them for nearly three years and when I first signed up it was great and I thought my problems with hosts were over, I could not have been more wrong. Aside from all my sites and everything about them breaking repetitively during there "migration" I had many major problems which actually took down one or multiple sites for weeks at a time...yes weeks.
It took two weeks to get them to change the permissions on a directory in IIS. I used to be able to do this myself before the "migration". It wasn't just like I sent an email explaining the problem then two weeks later it was working, it was a constant back and forth explaining email after email, then phone call after phone call. I know this sounds hard to believe that a professional hosting solution could let something like this drag on over directory permissions but I do not exaggerate.
The final blow was when they decided to migrate all their DB servers. I had two DB's hosted with them that multiple web sites are dependent on for data collection and reporting. I woke up one morning and loaded up one site to find a nasty db connection error. Ok the servers have been updated, change my connection string and we're good. Not with these guys. Tables were missing, stored procedures were gone, and the data was over 6 months old!! I got on the phone right away and spoke with a manager. Here it is, they probably have this line written on every wall, across every screen saver in the company... "We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you". When you get this line, and you will, it's over. The manager explained that the servers (which were working the day before) were now offline and that the data was not accessible. So I kept at him, let me speak to your supervisor I said. Well the story was the same all the way up. My data was gone, my db was irrevocably corrupted and all they could do was say they were sorry for the inconvenience. How does this happen you might ask? I have only just stopped asking that as I am now switching hosts as I should have done a year ago and trying not to wake up screaming anymore.
Please as soon as you get there catch phrase you should start to pack. There are so many great hosts out there, it isn't worth it and they don't care about you.
Do not use webhost4life for any reason. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with a hosting company. There has been at least 5 times that my site would go down during very important presentations. I lost business because webhost4life is very unrealiable, and when you contact customer service they don't give a rat's ass. Don't waste your money. I finally moved all my services from them. When I called and tried to cancel my services they wanted to charge me $35 to cancel early...even though I already paid for the full year of hosting. I really hope this company goes out of business soon. They way they are going they will be out of business very soon. Oh yeah...their new platform sucks.
Webhost4what? Those who want to end up in a psyhc ward with a breakdown.
Their customer support does not exist, there is so much down time, they couldnt care less, they make extravagant claims about themselves --- completely misleading--- maybe THEY should be in a psyhc... they are suffering from serious delusions if they believe their c***
It was a complete nightmare since they sold the company. I was struggle with them for months, I have been client for 8 years and I hosted more than 20 accounts but every day there was a problem with one account, every day, I decided to wait patiently to transfer my account from webhost4life to another supplier BUT THEY SHOWED IT WAS A BIG BIG MISTAKE.
On March they said one of my sites was transfer to the new and evil platform, WHAT A LIE!!!!
They just transfered the files and email accounts BUT THEY HAD AN EVIL JOKE HIDDEN.
They didn´t transfer the database!!!!
My client has a module to feed the database and I do backup every month, I used to trust webhost4life and I never had a problem BUT I WOULD LEARN NOT TO DO IT.
They moved the data base in September to the new platform but they put in the NEW SERVER A VERSION OF THE DATA BASE FROM JULY!!!!
Yes, they just thought it was much better if they installed an old version. My client didn´t notice the change and fed the OLD DATABASE and after a month, he called me asking me about the changes he had done two months ago. WHAT!!!!!
i was complete upset and I called them, they said they didn´t have the last version of the database and they couldn´t find anything, they didn´t have any information, SO I HAD TO SPEND SEVERAL DAYS WITHOUT SLEEPING TO FEED THE DATABASE AGAIN!!!!
I asked for the total refund of that account and I told them I wanted to cancel all my accounts with them because the lost the work of a month, and they installed a version two months old of the database.
First they ignore me.... I had more problems with other accounts, SO I INSISTED TO CANCEL MY ACCOUNTS WITHOUT 30 USD PENALTY DUE MY DECISION WAS BECAUSE THEIR BAD SERVICE.
And they showed me.... THEY ARE REALLY REALLY BAD!!!!!!
They emailed me back after a week and they said "YOU WILL GET A REFUND IN 10 DAYS TO YOUR CREDIT CARD, WE DELETED ALL THE SITES"
I was not sure if they would accept a total refund of all my accounts, they ignored me for a week and one day with any previous notification they said I WOULD RECEVE MY MONEY IN 10 DAYS AND THEY TURNED DOWN 20 SITES!!!!!!
Of course I called them and asked them to wait a least one day until I moved all of them but THEY DIDN´T WANT TO RESTORE ANYTHING, THEY JUST KICKED ME OUT AFTER 8 YEARS!!!!!!
Just imagine 20 companies calling me because the sites were down and all the email accounts.... I RESTORED THE SITED BUT.... I WOULD NEVER EVER RECOMMEND THAT DAM COMPANY!!!!
I DON´T KNOW IF THEY WILL REFUND THE MONEY, THE 10 DAYS HAVEN´T PASSED SO....
I AM NOT SURE IF THEY WILL GIVE ME MY MONEY OR THEY JUST TURNED DOWN MY SITES WITHOUT PREVIOUS NOTIFICATION AND STOLE MY MONEY.
as others have mentioned stay away from webhost4life or if you are with them now , just bail out and take whatever loss you have to
they were an excellent hosting company but have 'changed management' and have a 'new platform' basically its run now by people who do not know what they are doing and it caused me a *massive* amount of stress which I am only just getting over having moved to hostek ( recommended ) a few months ago - I have had all the experiences listed here with support. They should not be allowed to be in business , some people are taking class action against them see
you cannot even describe the company as a 'host' it is the worst product or 'service' I have ever had the misfortune of becoming entangled with
I am extremely dismayed and shocked by the lack of care, service and knowledge exhibited by the new staff at WebHost4Life. I have hosted several sites with this company for over 6 years and never had any issues until the dreaded migration.
This company has LOST or DELETED my personal blog that I started in order to record the emotions and milestones in my one and only child's first precious years. All of that is GONE.
Every site I host there had a database connection and I was not given an email or technical notice of any kind about the need to change my database connection strings. Yes, it was a WEB platform migration, that does not automatically imply a DATABASE migration, does it? Had they simply informed me of the new database information and the dates on which the switch should be made, I would have been satisified.
Instead, for some sites, they went into my code and changed the connection strings without my knowledge. On some sites, an entirely different format of SQL was required and they didn't bother to change any of them. I only found out about the issue when my clients started calling me that they sites were down and they could not access their administrative functions.
The final straw was my personal blog website. I had installed the WordPress plug-in which uses MySQL (a db I'm not really familiar with but you don't need to be when it's a pre-programmed plug-in). I tested and logged into my site AFTER the migration and everything appeared to be working fine. A couple of weeks ago, I got a connection error message. When I reported it to technical support, they said to use their new connection info. I did that and still got a connection error. Next they said they reset the password and I should try again. Now I got an installation page for WordPress and when I looked into the MySQL database it was EMPTY!!!
They "migrated" my database to the new platform with NO TABLES!!?!? How does that happen???? OR did they delete the tables when they "reset" the password?
Why for this site, did they not change the connection info like they did on the other sites? When I asked them to restore the database from the old server, they said it is shut off so they cannot access it. "We're sorry for the inconvenience. If you have a backup of your database, send it to us." ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I have PAID this company for 6 years to maintain my data and they should be maintaining backups! What web hosting or data storage company does not have an off-server backup system?
This is NOT an inconvenience... it is a TRAGEDY and a TRAVESTY! I cannot get those memories back or remember them as clearly as the day it was recorded in that blog. I am heartbroken. (and moving all of my sites OFF of this web host.)
WebHost4Life.com - what a joke! WebHost4Nobody should be their name! WebHost4Life.com is totally incompetent and has been for me the cause of nothing but troubles, headaches, and sleepless nights for almost 4 months.
I have been with them for several years, and slowly they have been deteriorating, in terms of features offered (less), price increases, slower and less competent support, and increased downtime and website slowness. However things have gotten really bad since January, and affected me directly since June when they started to run all the websites they host (including those expensive dedicated servers) of their new, apparently improved, platform. It looks like as of August 2010 they have completely moved all their clients to this new platform. And all new clients will be on their new platform automatically. And I can only feel sorry for them, because that new platform is new indeed, in that it totally ruins your website. Please read my review to find out why...
WEBSITE MORE DOWN THAN UP and "EXPERIENCED" SUPPORT TEAM:
For a start, expect your website to constantly go down, and expect the support team not to be able to do anything about it for weeks! Yes, weeks! While the support is available 24x7 as they say, they are practically useless. The way their support works is quite entertaining, if only it wasn't so sad... First they turn you into a parrot (a little bird that can repeat phrases after you... you know) by making you restate the problem to them like 5 times over (because they will either answer a question you did not ask, or ignore half of what you asked), to which they give you one of their two favorite responses: "we are sorry for this inconvenience..." or "we are investigating the issue..." or both, if you are particularly insistent. The way they decide which response to pick is by throwing a dice btw. After about a week, once you have received 5 or 6 as you have probably guessed terribly informative messages; you request that the issue be looked by a supervisor or a higher technician. This turns them into a different mode of operation with you... Now they tend to reply in a "things are working fine now, please check on your end..." fashion and closing the ticket. And after that, Oh Miracle! Indeed, the website works for 30 minutes, or even an hour... unbelievable! (Though if you can call 5s-10s response times working is a matter of a debate). But that "miracle" time does not usually last more than an hour... the website goes down for some time, and then spontaneously up again for 10 minutes, and then down for oh maybe several hours, and then... you get the pattern! So, then you realize that, after all, they are just humans, not some deities that could work a true miracle, you so hoped for! After all, it must be insanely difficult to have a website you host run for several days uninterrupted... isn't it? Thus, you submit another ticket, and you are back to the beginning of your entertaining, but sad, time-consuming, counter-productive, and costly endeavor of communicating with their so-called experienced 24x7 support!
WEBSITE ACCESS PROBLEMS:
But if the roller coaster-like responsiveness and availability of your website didn't disappoint you enough, I have another lovely surprise: guess what: you may not even be able to access your website for weeks to upload or download files via FTP, or to back up your database! I have been cut off from my website FTP-wise for 10 days! They could care less! Just imagine what it's like to urgently need to update your website and not have any means to do it! Their support this time was beyond just incompetent, they were totally clueless! I was asking like what is 5x5, and they were telling me that 2+2 = 4 (bad analogy but you get the point - they were totally unaware of the problem or did not want to fix it). I tried retrieving a backup for one of my databases for 1 month! They could care less! It was fortunate that I was able to migrate my database nevertheless by first using an older backup and then importing data from their database server (which thank God was accessible at that time) over to my new database server. So, even after you realize how terrible they are, unless you do regular backups that you have access to, you might have a very hard time trying to migrate to a different host, like I did.
DIRTY PRACTICES with BILLING:
And a few words about the billing. BEWARE they do not stand by their guarantees! First of all they do not refund any add-on features you purchased in addition to your plan - at all! So, even if you spend more than what the plan cost you on those extra features (like extra domain) - they will not you refund a buck! Second: regardless of what your issue is they will impose a hefty cancellation fee! Third: when issuing partial refunds for the hosting plans they calculate the amount by looking into complete months of hosting left, and rounding the amount in their favor! So if you have left 117 days with them, they will refund for 90 days only, not 117! Fourth: if you have prepaid for the hosting (like I did - I paid 40 days before my hosting would expire), they will turn it on its head and state that your real payment date was the begging of the new billing period, and the beginning of the new billing period was the date when you paid! That's what they told me on the phone: literally they accused me of late payment, when in fact it was the other way around! So, not only is their support incompetent, but their accounting department is incompetent as well! Fifth: I have asked them several times not to put my account on auto-renew; and over the phone they assured me it was off, but when I logged in to the control panel, the auto-renew was on - they disrespect you completely! Finally: when it comes to arguing that you want to cancel the account and get a refund, stating unacceptable downtime as the reason, they tell you literally: "Yes we do provide and guarantee 99% uptime, but that is cumulative, not during any particular time period". In other words, if you host your website for 5 years with them (that's 60 months), it's ok by their terms for your website to be down for 2-3 weeks in a row, because the uptime guarantee is cumulative! Ridiculous! So, basically, you would be very lucky if you get anything back from them! Do not trust them, and stay away!
PROOF of THEIR POOR PERFORMANCE and CONCLUSION:
I am glad that I have finally ended my relationship with them and moved to a great asp.net alternative - ARVIXE. I am btw not their affiliate or anything, but thought its important I mention a good place where you can go if you want to host a moderate asp.net websites with SQL Server databases.
And here's a response time chart generated by Pingdom for my website when it was hosted by WebHost4Life.com and later when it was on ARVIXE's servers! It's real data, and to me the difference is astonishing:
The bottom line is that if you want your website to be constantly inaccessible, offline, slow, and unresponsive, and if you like repeating your questions and explaining your issues 10 times over to the support team only to hear that they "are sorry" or that "it works fine now", then WebHost4Life.com is for you. Otherwise - don't even consider this terrible web host!
Sorry for the lengthy and at times sarcastic review, but I really wanted to give a thorough and comprehensive review with specific examples and facts, and to warn people to stay away from WebHost4Life.com!
Webhost4life should consider renaming itself to Wedhost4Temporary! I've had problems with my website nearly every single day since they changed servers. I lost nearly an entire month. And there "tech" support was a joke. My 16 year old cousin knew more about how to resolve my problem then they did. Extremely disappointing. Even as I type, I'm trying to do some general maintenance on my retail site for the weekend and what should take me 2 minutes to enter is taking me an hour.
I certainly DO NOT recommend this hosting company. Buyer BEWARE!
At first the site would go down intermittently, more than other ISP's i've had. No big deal, I was patient.
Rant startes here:
Something happened recently where I have a Sharepoint site and it has now been down for over a week. Here's the ticket # status from the support console:
#448974 Unable to Access the SharePoint Website Sep 7, 2010 Sep 13, 2010 5:14 PM Open
The site has been down for over a week, and I have someone calling me weekly telling me that someone will look at it. Are you kidding me? They can't have a site down that long and no on looks at it? I would never recommend webhost4life to anyone and would run away at the sound of their name. I am only still with them since I can't get my sharepoint data back until the site comes back. Incredible. Do not use. You've been warned.
Same as many other
New platform WORST ever customer service and reliability horrible since they switched to the "New Platform", only people I can get a hold of about the company are tech support in the middle of the night. I had very few issues prior to their migration, the new platform is horrible.
They have lost emails, turned off mails servers without notifying and didn't migrate the email addresses, so I had to manually do it just so the clients(multiple domains) emails were only down for 5 days, I got no urgency in fixing this issues.
They have continually over billed, they bill for pointers but can't tell you which domain are for which pointer, then instead of giving a credit they charge again then say they will give a credit sometime in the next 5-7 days and still mis-billed for that. They say 20/month for some services but then I would get a renewal of 300 with no reason.
Canned responses on customer service, migration took over 6 months and counting and have downed sites, emails, lost emails and over billed.
Three years ago they where great now worst ever.
Same as many others: we had our site with Webhost4life for several years with no issues. And then came the dreaded "platform migration".
We've lost FrontPage extensions, VB-script support, Access database functionality, and finally, a complete loss of access to the site in any browser. That last issue has been "under investigation" for almost 8 weeks now. We are ending our relationship with this company at the end of the month.
I cannot warn people away from this group strongly enough.
On the "new" platform the SQL admin tools have worked only once to create a database backup and save it locally. It was broken again today so I tried using SQL Server Management Studio and successfully created a backup, but I can't get to it to save a local copy. The ftp tools don't work to establish a connection to the directory where the backup is located and the SQL admin tools time out making a connection. Prior to this problem, a fiasco ensued when the website went dark and it took more than 4 days of ridiculous messaging to put it back in service. Along the way I learned that the host expects customers to use Internet Explorer 6 or earlier and Windows XP or earlier to interact their web-based hosting control panel. I learned that because it was impossible to connect to the control panel using IE 8 and Windows 7. Firefox works fine. Maybe they don't want to host Windows users. They are just an awful host since moving to the "new" platform.
WORST experience ever when they do the migration for all my sites. (NOTE: I am a VPS user. I am paying over $200/month including all the DBs and sites.) Nothing works...I mean NOTHING. After the migration, emails, all my sites, FTP...nothing works. It took me 4 freakin days just to get my FTP logins to retrieve my backups preparing to move to another server.
Their support is the worst I could ever possibly seen. They don't know what they are doing, throwing the ball around and make you wait. I really don't understand why they are like this unless they do it purposely.
I went to another host after I got my FTP logins and I am glad that I made a quick decision to move. It is such a waste of time dealing with those guys.
SOME TIPS DEALING WITH WEBHOST4LIFE. You have to yell at them. Yell until you get what you need. I called over 10 times a day. Just keep yelling at them otherwise I am sure you won't get what you need. Don't trust those tickets and live chat. (All useless) You have to CALL.
****My advice. Change to another hosting right now. You CANNOT find any hosting provider worst than webhost4life.
I am joining the other reviewers here with my two cents. I am absolutely disgusted with Webhost4life. They moved my site to their "new platform" and instructed me to update my connection string. I did so and the site has been down for almost a week now. Changing back to the old connection string did not work either. I hired a DNN specialist to make sure I didn't goof up the webconfig file and he confirmed that everything was A-OK on my end.
I have not received any satisfactory response from the company and they seem to be incapable of returning my site to a working status. I am in the process of changing hosts. I will never recommend Webhost4life to anyone.
I was with these guys for last 5 Years in old platform … total ticket opened : not more than 25 … live chat support not more than 20 times … everything was so smooth that I never realized the term pain or frustration or anger in dealing with hosting provider.
The new platform is a real pain and worth recommending to your enemy. Think of this ...
1. You want to upload a zip and get it unzipped at site : No unzip feature available, you have to open a ticket and it may take 24-48-72 Hrs to unzip a file.
2.No rename feature in file management
3. Backup & restore for big MS SQL files not possible as a product used ‘MyLittleAdmin’ it self suggest to use ‘MyLittleBackup’ and accepts that ‘MyLittleAdmin’ is not good for such tasks
4. Your site is down or had some issues … open a ticket wait for 24-48-72 to get some reply … if not resolved and need additional information or you want to add something … again same time cycle ….
5. There is a 24 X 7 live chat support to assist. Defination of assistance … Can we put you on hold for 4-5 minutes to review your account …some discussion … again can we you on hold for 4-5 minutes … I have escalated this to our tier 2 experts and opened a ticket for you … 24-48-72 Hrs. to resolve …
6. If you get frustrated by now immediate assistance is available @ 75$/Hr.
We have had SO MANY problems with WH4L that I don't even know where to begin. The very first surprise was when we tried to host a website in the new space we have purchased. It turned out that we had to pay $15 per year to add a new domain (which we owned already) just so that we can manage it in their DNS admin. We had their Premium plan at that time. Then we had to pay extra for hosting a second SQL server database. Once we paid all the extra "hidden" fees, the hosted site was finally up but the performance was aweful. Turns out that they flush the IIS application pool every 20 minutes, so every visitor who comes after the flush has to wait several seconds extra just for the page to load/rebuild. First, we filed a complaint about the poor performance in general, we were then moved to a different server and things were semi-OK. But the database server was still extremely slow in cases - and that they could never resolve for us. So we ended up moving to a different web host, keeping only our DNS and emails with WH4L.
Then another painful event came - they moved to their "new platform" - at this time most of our DNS entries became corrupt, and not one single person knew how to help us in their support team. After several days of hopeless waiting, we decided to move our DNS needs to another provider; leaving nothing but email with WH4L.
At the same time, our Premium subscription was to renew. We talked to them the day before that we are having all these issues and no time to move our emails, and requested that we get moved down to the Standard package. The next day we were charged the full amount for the Premium subscription. It took us several months to get a refund for the difference, after having to talk to numerous people from their billing.
Ever since then we keep getting "Your Mailbox Will Be Disabled Due to Inactivity" emails each month saying that some of our email accounts are going to be disabled and deleted if we don't log in on the web interface. We talked to their support at least 4-5 times and requested that they stop sending these emails. We explained that we check emails on these accounts through Outlook and at least every week on webmail. No one could explain why we are getting these messages. Every time we were assured that we will receive no more of these emails - yet they keep coming; we just received two today, and this is the final straw.
Over the past year, we have gradually migrated our web hosting, then DNS, and now email over to other providers. If you have a serious business, going with WH4L will have major surprises for you and they are going to be mostly negative - so save yourself from this and find another provider instead.
I had a good experience until the migration to the new platform. once that happened, a minor change to the code crashed the site and it was down for 5 days. I finally got the support team to re-activate the site on the old platform which got us visible again. Then they opted to migrate it back to the new platform. This time they crashed the email. 2 days after the email was resolved they changed it again. Our only successful resolution was to change hosting providers.
I asked for a refund since the migration for the unused service.
Thats the answer I got:
"Our records show that your account 'a7' is scheduled for cancellation on July 20, 2010. It will get canceled on scheduled cancellation date. Once your account get canceled, we will refund the unused amount of $109.45 to your PayPal account. If you wish to cancel you account immediately, then please get back to us so that we can cancel your account.
I asked them to cancel the account and they did.
But they never refunded
The problem with paypal is that they do not accept dispute tickets for services.
We had our website with this company for years with no issues, that is until this new company took over. First they deleted all or MX records and substituted one of their servers, support told me they would never do this even after I showed support they did change the record. Now for weeks we can not access our website from the office, we get the dreaded 403.6 from IIS. After resubmitting the ticket over and over, they open the site from their system and declare it good and close the ticket. Its like they do not understand. First the worthless support person on chat told me my isp was blocking the site, even though the traceroute showed we could get there. I called instead of chat and I got Indian support not American, he said the other person was wrong and resubmitted the ticket, the ticket was closed saying the site was accessable from their system. I called and chatted again submitted screenshots, traceroutes again and again, still same result, they open the site from their system and close the ticket. And now not only can we not browse the site from out office, but now the old version of the site we have not had for months is back, and the new one is no where to be found. We have back up of the site but they don't. If you have your site with these people move it somewhere else fast before they ruin it.
I have been a customer of webhost4life for more than 5 years. Everything was smooth and support was awesome, fast, knowledgeable... ...until last spring when they "updated to a new platform" (I guess, "sold to another company").
There, nightmare started. I have had several accounts with them and randomly, my sites started to break and support was completely unable to do something about it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and that's about all I could get as support.
I am now moving to another host. Big job to do this but hopefully, it will buy my peace of mind to know that I don't have to cross fingers each time I try to demo a site to a customer.
It may sound like a broken record at this point, but like so many others, I was absolutely pleased with WebHost4Life's services and especially their support. There were some occasional blips in the server, but other than that I felt like they were responsive.
...Until this spring
Suddenly our site went down, and no one seemed concerned. Chat support was absolutely worthless. Not only did they not make any sense, but they couldn't find any of our account information. They told us we weren't a customer, but we had been for years and I had to send an invoice to get any assistance.
Turns out that they had moved our DNN site to a "new platform" (whatever that really means) and instead of a Windows server put it on a UNIX box, where ASP does not work. They lost our account information so we couldn't access a control panel nor FTP no get support to acknowledge us.
After a lot of research, I heard of sites being down for weeks and months then having countless problems after the transfer to "the new platform". Everyone I contacted said they wished they hadn't wasted the time fighting support and had instead transferred to another host as soon as possible, so we did.
Here's my advice on what I learned:
- Don't bother with chat support and online tickets (especially to the transition team) will not have any response for weeks, don't bother.
- Call support, you'll get a live American.
- Beg, plead, push to get back on the "old platform" where the site will still function and support still does (surprisingly) respond to a ticket within an hour.
- Change hosts...NOW, it won't get any better and your business can't afford it.
After the migration all my sites broke. They didn't even think to make sure the Sharepoint worked, what a joke these folks are. I'm going to attempt a refund for unused duration. This is unfortunate because at one point they were a good, reliable company. Stay away from them.
I will join many comments about how much this hosting company sux. Once they moved my Website to new platform (first of all it went down for couple of days), then I lost email for another couple of days. Now apparently there are some issues with Dot Net Nuke installation which took my DNN Website down for more than a week. When trying to contact their support all they have is copy&paste stupid responses that not help at all. When I go on the phone they just told me that I'm a small customer and they're working on it. That they have bigger customers they're waiting. This is just unprofessional. I'm considering to move to another hosting in next few days. WebHost4Life - you just plain suck!
WebHost4Life sucks major ass. The problems reported by everyone else here happened to me too. You'd think after a few weeks of this they'd wake up and stop screwing up people's businesses. Yes, their live chat support is India. They use American names, but fess up if you ask. It two days to get my site back up after discovering it down after the migration. Once up, it was the site I had a month ago, updated files all missing. Two days after opening a ticket to resolve the problem, nothing has been done. Over the phone, they acted like it wasn't a big deal. "Only a small number of sites have reported problems," they say. But looking at these message boards, it seems scores of people have been struggling with this. Class Action Lawsuit - yes!
Just like everyone else, these guys were awesome for the first few years I had them. the beginning of 2010 they, for no reason, migrated everyone to new servers or something, since that time our website is down for 2-3 hours about 3 or 4 days a week. it takes 48 hours before their tech support responds.
I am currently finding another host and will be moving to another host.
I've given them 6 months to get these issues worked out, and still we have routine downtimes which is unacceptable for my customers.
if you have a time machine, sign up with them and keep their service up until 2010.
Have had my a number of sites migrated across to their new servers, one site has been down for nearly a month. customer support is non existant. they won't give me the contact details to speak to a manager or technical assistant to get the problem resolved or for them to call me. They have not informed me of anything they are doing to get it back up. avoid them find someone else.
Like everyone else here that has recently posted- they migrated us to a new server. Of course our site no longer worked. Their tech support was miserable to deal with- they kept shutting down our ticket despite the site not working. I believe they were actually trying to lose us as a customer rather than keep us with the additional tech issues that we had due to their migration. Well- it worked- we just moved to another database host.
I am their customer since 3 years
They migrated my account, and all my sites stopped working.
They even had old version of my database after migration. Spent 2 days working with tech support and they finally rolled it back to old platform.
After a week, I again got email that they moved my account to new platform. Again my sites stopped working. Still dealing with fixing the issues.
Avoid this company at all costs. They are crooks. I found they were modifying my code without my authorization. They migrated my site to a new server and broke everything and blamed me for the problems. They will nickel and dime you for everything.
My site was hosted here for 5 years. Recently, during the migration because the company switched owners, the site went down completely. The site was down for a month. I'm not kidding. Sometimes, the support would just not respond. Most of the time online chat is somewhere in India with fake operator names. I had numerous phone calls, submitted tickets, etc. Definitely do not use them.
I've been with Webhost4Life for almost 3 years. Things were fine until this migration thing. I have 6 sites and an online store. Now I gotta move everyting to another host. The fact that I just renewed everthing and predict I won't get any refund, or the time this is going to take me, are not as bad as the disruption for my clients and the loss of their trust.
Does anyone know how to start a class-action suit?
I have been a customer of webhost4life for 6 months now. Initially it went very well in their trial period of 30 days.
But from the second month itself i started to face the problems with their hosting. Occasionally my website used to remain down. Sometimes it worked, sometime don't. My site has very basic aspx pages and it don't make use of any database interactions or any third party controls. It is just basic aspx pages and even then it won't work.
I continued with them because I had already paid them for the full year. But I realized that for a small benefit I have made a big mistake.
But I continued hoping for the best as my business was not that much dependent on it. But recently my site stopped working at all. I logged a complaint with them and I was told it will be resolved within a couple of hours. But it has been 5 days since and i am still waiting to get my issues resolved. I have contacted their support staff 3 to 4 times everyday and every time they give false commitment that it will be resolved in the next couple of days.
Eventually, I have ended up with losing 3 probable clients for my business and you know what that means.
So, I am writing this to save someone out there to keep away from these guys and use some another hosting company. Hope my effort to write all this up will help someone out there.
The service was fine before the migration. Webhost4Life was bought out by a new company. The service by the new company is horrible, to say the least. I read the complaints here posted since January. From my experience to date, they are all accurate. The chat service is useless. Ticket system stinks. No response to the tickets!!!!!!! What is the use? It looks as though they are from a different planet. You will be at your own peril if you go with these folks.
I'm at least glad to know others share my experiences with WebHost4Life, Post-Migration. I've been a long-time customer of this company when they were based in California. You could get fast and knowledgable support within minutes. NOT ANY MORE!!
The company provided almost no notice of the "migration" stating it was to improve service and performance. Customers were never informed that the migration was from the old company to a new, unheard of, company.
I still have outstanding issues that were "solved" by tier-3 staff. These people know absolutely nothing! I currently have 4 domains being hosted by this company, and none of them work now since this "migration." It'll cost me big $$ to fix this problem by moving the domains to another host.
Ever since my site was migrated, it has not worked! The reason for the failure was the simple fact that they failed to migrate web.config file. I pointed out that was the problem and no one at the tech support even bothered to action on it. I was promised level 3 tech support and still no action taken.
I am now in the process of migrating my site to another web host. I have lost all confidence in them.
For the first few years that we hosted our website on Webhost4life.com we didn't have any problems...
We did run into the problems that others have mentioned about accessing our data once the owners switched servers. I was able to figure this out myself after a couple of weeks... It was quite frustrating not being able to update my website though...
My major issue with this company is that when we renewed our web hosting account last year we paid for a 2 year renewal.
When I recieved a renewal notice last month I contacted their billing and support section. Their Billing Specialist, Delma Holt, told me that they don't have the previous owners records, and that they are not going to honor our second year unless I can provide them with a recipt stating that I purchased 2 years... I have e-mailed them my Paypal receipt twice. The receipt, and all e-mail correspondance has no record of the term limit of our account... This was all on the website control panel where I renewed the account.... So, I have no way of showing what I paid for...
They will not honor our second year.
This means that we paid over $100 for a year of "basic" web hosting service... which is typically only $60/year
they will not lsiten to reason... We have moved our website elsewhere.
PLEASE BE WARNED!
Before their migration - I would have given this company 5 of 5 stars, and I routinely recommended them to clients. Since the recent 'migration' period, however, every one of my sites and my client's sites has broken - and continues to experience intermittent glitches. As well, you are no longer able to easily control file permissions as before the migration. It has now gotten to the point that I have begun moving sites to other hosting companies and will continue until all are moved. Do NOT use webhost4life!
All of the negative reviews are true. Something happened in the last few months and the company has completely fallen apart. My site went from a 99% reliability to jut 80 or 90 percent and now it's costing me Google rankings and money. Their support people are incompetent. Stay away.
Nice company to do hosting with, service and customer support is good. But since the migration has been done, everything has been changed. Earlier you would have a personal webemail panel,. now everything is diverted to webhost4life which is kinda wierd
They migrated my account, it has not worked since and their tech support people are useless. My problem was eleivated to tier 3 but that did no good. Now I cannot even create my site from scratch becuase they have lock my account.
WebHost4Life Moved my site from one server to another for some reason undisclosed. In the process they broke it. I called and they said it would be 2 to 3 hours. I called in 3 hours they said 2 to 3 hours again. I called 3 hours later they said 24 to 48 hours. I called after 48 hours they said 24 to 48 hours. When I point out it had already been 48 hours they said it would be fixed withen 48 hours. I again pointed out it had already been 48 hours at whioch point the supervisor admitted that it could be 24 to 10,000 hours and that they had NO SLA and that all I could do about it was cancel my account. Which I did. However they were unable to produce a backup of my database so I had to do it myself with a third party tool. In the end stay away from WebHost4Life in 2 days they couldn't figure out how to do a database backup and they had no expectations of how long it would take thier technicians to research how to do it.
At first these guys provided good service. As time has gone on they appear to be overburdened with issues or like many companies prefer to hide behind chat windows and help desk tickets. The Chat people are useless and the help tickets are next to useless.
Each time I post a ticket I have to add some additional piece of information or clarify some mute point. I see this as a delay tactic of the support personnel. They offer to let users write the CEO but I have never had a reply.
I pay $128 per month for their better hosting package which has never lived up to its name. The siste flushes sessions every 2-3 minutes which empties my customers shopping carts in the mioddle of their order. This has caused a big drop in business while I continue to fight with webhos4life to get it resolved. Their service is supposed to not allow this to happen. Each time I complain that move me to a better server pool or claim to make some fine tuning. It never works.
They advertise services that they don't deliver and hide behind their tickets and chat screens.
This is the worst service I have experienced and would not recommend them.
Webhost4life is the worst host around, I wish I had read the reviews on this site and other web sites. Their support is poor - their support is based in India and they have no idea what they're doing. In the US they hang up on you constantly all the time if they can't answer your question. Our site had been down for 48 hours and they could not get it working claiming they had server issues - I ended up moving away from these guys. I must stress their own servers are VERY slow (see other reviews) - and browsing their control panel takes ages - even submitting a support ticket can take 15 minutes !!!!
Keep away from these guys, they are the worst host I've ever come across.
Exactly what others have said. I have been a customer for 8+ years and now that they got bought by a new company, things have gone wrong. First it started with the migration. Every customer had to migrate to new hardware because the new company was in a new location. THe migration was anything but smooth and took 2 months to get transferred. Now that it is transferred, for the last 2 weeks I've been dealing with downtime and today my sites have been down for 12+ hours. Totally unacceptable and not the 99.9% uptime that they had promised. I also brought 20+ customers to Webhost4Life and I plan on taking every single one of them to another hosting company.
Do yourself a favor and do not use WebHost4Life or you will have no life because your sites will be down.
Right now the only good thing about them is that they are cheaper than most .NET hosting companies but now I guess its true you get what you pay for. At least they are US based and speak English normally.
I have been on webhost4life for over one year on a MS platform. I setup two domains for hosting. The initial transfer from GoDaddy was painful - delays experienced - items not running, etc. However staff was responsive at that time and worked with me through the issues. I am by no means very technical and do require some degree of hand holding when it comes to altering PHP scripts, etc. In Janaury 2010, they began migrating their clients to a new support platform - this has been a total disaster for me. I initially experienced outages on the site and now for the last 30 days constant slow response performance from the websites. In addition, their migration screwed up several applications I had been running due to configuration issues with PHP. The level of good customer support has dropped significantly - now a ticket takes over 48 hours for resolution. Anything beyond a simple query needs escallation putting you into the 48 hour timeframe. I have also noticed the nickle and diming occuring - this was one of the reasons that I initially shifted from GoDaddy to Webhost4life. Webhost4life now charges for each subdirectory created for each domain.
I am currently assessing moving to a different provider - and a vary cautious of making the same mistakes. I'll I'm looking for is consistent uptime, performance and good customer service. You won't get that from Webhost4life.
They really suck now, the hosting was awesome before some company bought over webhost4life, they are now trying to migrate customers without informing them properly and stripping all the features, now my site is down for more than 2 days, they no longer give access to changing permissions for files, which is basic mechanism needed for access. Never go to them, by moving to new platform they have created unreliable environment for hosting. None of the old features properly work after migration. I do not recommend them to anyone.
I say do not host your site on webhost4life. It's horrible. I host my site there, it's slow. I get many complaints. Rencently they have moved my site to what they call a new platform, and my site is down for a day don't know when it will get back. All they said is it will be solved in couple hours. So it's been a day already. I'm worried that they probably will loose my database. If that's case, I'll see them on the court. Horrible..
As so many people have already said, WH4L used to be excellent, service was prompt and support staff knowledgeable. In the last 6 months, things have gone wrong for them. Websites going down, support calls unanswered and helpdesk staff who listen to you explain your problem in full before telling you they dont know how to help and to raise a support call.
My website when down one evening so I raised a level 2 (critical) call, I was away for a week and on return saw that they hadn't even looked at it. The excuse? A level 2 call was too high for their technicians to see it. I dont even know where to begin ranting about that one.
Bits of their control panel dont work, and when you point this out to 'helpdesk' they just agree with you. Um... solutions please???
I've now told them to poke it and moved to another provider. I wont touch WH4L with someone elses, and I suggest you do the same.
My hosting Plan: Advance Hosting Plan - Turbo Charged - Windows Server 2008
I decided to migrate all my sites (about 20) in October 2009, after having done intensive testing that left me satisfied.
The migration process (wich cost me $249,75 via Live Chat) was terrible. The migration team was asking all the time for basic instructions that we already inform in their primary form.
Support does not read the tickets properly and sometimes suggest different solutions in the same ticket.
The site presents the CEO e-mail contact in a prominent place. It is a farce since I sent him several e-mails without any response.
A month ago my portals began to fall due to lack of space in SQL. According to the Live Chat I had already exceeded the size limit, which was 1 GB. So, they told me to buy more 300 MB, which would cost me $90 per year. After asking repeatedly to the Helpdesk which was my limit of space they finally said it was 2GB. In other words, I didn't have to buy extra space of 300 MB because I had room for more 700 MB in the SQL. Ridiculous, not to call something worse.
Over time the performance was allways falling. Yesterday, I received more than 200 alerts of down time (Error Type: 503 Service Unavailable).
The responses of support ranging from a simple "after we realized tests we conclude that it's all okay" to "sorry for the inconvenience" or "we put your site on a dedicated server" which was clearly a lie, because I found that it was hosted on a server with more 150 other sites. When I showed the list of my IP neighbors they did not respond.
Currently I am in a panic because they do not inspire any confidence and I'm having terrible problems with my clients.
Moral: if you want to go bankrupt host your sites in Webhost4life.
Used Webhost4Life for over 5 years and leaving them now. The transition to a new platform caught us off guard and it was and still is a big mess. File manager they use is a joke. Chat with customer service is relatively fast but many associates (not all) could not assist with basic things, so it is usually hit or miss.
I have been with these guys for over 3 years and they have been great. Then they migrated/transitioned me to new servers. The day after nothing worked. I had been getting great service and great tech support but once the change happened everything changed. Everything became flaky. My Site crashed, all together, and nothing they did could resolve it. I spent days building and rebuilding my site to try to make it work. I even set up another host at another hosting company with identical directory, sub directory and pages...just straight ftp down and up. And it all worked right out of the box. New company turned out to be faster.
Prior to the migration/transition I could take backups of my MS SQL database, at WebHost4Life, ftp(download) the back up and then load it up to my local Database...afterward this just didn't work. Could get a back up but it would only restore to their site. Not good. Customer Service also went down the drain. I am so sad that I will have to leave these guys but hey whats the point of a hosting service that just doesn't work.
I have been with WebHost4Life for many years. When I put my first site up with them they had very good and timely response with their technical people. You used to be able to directly talk with a knowledgeable tech rep and resolve issues.
Recently they have moved to their “New” platform and all semblance of knowledge seems to have left the company. I tried for 4 days to get my new e-commerce site up and running on their servers. They apparently lack any knowledge of ASP or SQL on their side. I could not get any answers from the support people other than it is being looked at by various internal “Tier” groups. (They admitted the problem was on their side.)
Probably the worst example of customer support comes from the fact that each time you ask for a status or update your trouble ticked you are moved to the bottom of the queue!
I am now fighting with them for a full refund. They only want to pro-rate for a service that they could not provide, and won’t refund all of the extras I paid for such as SiteLock, backup protection etc.
This host used to be good. Just recently over the past month the site has been down almost daily. They have an utter disregard for the files that are in your account, and routinely go in and make changes to suit their needs. Even if this means that your website will break. My final straw with this team was when they inadvertantly switched my product database with another clients customer transaction database. This in turn caused all the customer records and credit card information to be posted publicly. In return for causing this disaster, they offered a 6 month credit. Needless to say that I moved my site right away. Good luck in dealing with the crappy support team. There is no escalation, so all you can do is deal with a staff member that has no real ability to help, or knowledge of the systems. STAY AWAY !!!
I have been using webhost4life for over 4 years and until lately, I was quite satisfied. With the new year, they completely changed their system and management. Now, the whole service sucks.
- Technical support incidents take forever to resolve and most of them are never resolved.
- Important features that were there before, are not available now or require fee
- Their billing systems suddenly shows that you owe money for services you have never requested or for services you already paid for. (i.e. although I have renewed for 2 yrs. they asked for ~$71 in order to continue hosting my web site. hahaha)
- In general, it is now so bad and unusable that I am abandoning it although I have paid for renewal)
For years I have had no issues, never needed support, all code ran smoothly and control panel allowed for almost full control.
But I am moving sites off there as fast as I can! They are going thru a server migration and NONE of the 7 sites I host with them work. Why? They can't tell me! It's simple php, ASP for the most part. In fact if I changed the extension to .htm, most will still run on any other hosting platform. So their automated migration may be telling them and the customers there are erros that are not even there. I can't wait and be a test dummy at the expense of clients. Then they are making it near impossible to process forms. If you have a site that gets alot of traffic, say the form gets 20+ requests per day, it gets black/grey listed for 48 hours, so your form is not working. Obviously you cannot test the scripts you write in this environment cuz you never get the results due to the mail server shutting off or not allowing the process because it thinks its spam. So it may be working fine but you are chasing down an error that doesn't even exist.
This migration (which began mid February 2010) I feel will be a severe blow to their business with regards to customers that were on their platform prior to this migration. I imagine there is a mass exodus right now. To expect web developers to re-code all of their websites to fit these unknown parameters (whatever they are, I guess its a secret) is unrealistic. It would bankrupt us developers spending the time to re-code, not to mention without knowing WHAT and WHY to re-code. We certainly cannot go to our clients and expect them to pay. I understand updating smtp authentication to avoid spammers (they eliminated php mail() and CDONTS), but THROW US DEVELOPERS A BONE, give us a hint of what changed and what needs to be tweaked. Us developers look like idiots when we can't explain why our code doesn't work anymore.
I am moving all of my sites, I asked them to keep me on the old platform for another month (YES, I ACTUALLY spoke to someone) so I can research other hosting companies - which is tough cuz its not easy to find a site that does a honest review without it really being a portal to sell their services. Right now I am leaning toward GoDaddy. I have a few sites I inherited and working on them seems to be without issue.
They key I have found to get thru to a live person in tech support is to press the option for sales, then tell them you were in que on tech support line for 40 min and got disconnected. But now that you have a live person, getting your issue RESOLVED is another matter. Don't even bother with live chat.
Any comments here that give them 5 out 5 have got to be fake or done by employees. I have over 15 clients hosting here and I will be moving them one by one to a new host. Customer support is horrible...horrible...horrible. Everytime you renew they force you up a price plan and the only way to get it moved back down is to put in a support ticket...and get a refund. They scam you all around. I have given them chance after chance to come around but the obviously don't care about their good customers. And now they are switching clients to a new platform...with now QA in place site are getting moved over and do not work. We have had to put in hours and hours of free work for our clients to fix webhost4lifes mistakes. I will be reporting them to better business bureau.
Webhost4life used to be a fair company but for the last few years is getting abusive with its reseller. Also the host service is getting bad. Last week I had all my sites down because of server failure and for the last 2 month they are implementing changes moving accounts from one server to another causing a nightmare for clients and resellers like me. I did paid around 1200 to be an advance reseller and have a customize site but they unilaterelly close all reseller package now I have nothing. Would some one recomend what to do in this situations? am planing to open a claim on court but don't know what is the procedure.
I used to love these guys and now I want to poke my eye out every time i have to event see their name.
What used to be great service (quick response, problem solving) has turned into completely unreliable and unresponsive service. I have emailed the CEO many many times with ZERO response! At least once a day my site goes down. Ridiculous. Look elsewhere.
My church started in 2004 and we looked for a good provider with decent workable aplications that would be consistant for the best price. We were disapointed in what we discovered. In fact we struggled with our hositng company for over a year and finally gave up and started to look around for a better solution. We found webHost4life and have not looked back. They have been consistant and reliable for the duration of our time with them. Outages are extreemly rare and most importantly, they have communicated with us if there were any concerns that they were addressing. We are very satisfied with Webhost's service and the quality of the product.
They Deliver - Great Support, Great Service, Great Price!
I am an on-the-side website developer. I have a few customers I've had for year. I was using a service that sounded like all the others. But they did not deliver. In fact, they finally were down for days and I couldn't get ahold of them... and I lost the customer. That was it. I searched and found webhost4life. I signed up for the MS Web 2008 Advanced Hosting Plan and they had me going in one day and after two more days when the changes took affect over the internet, I cancelled my old host service and it felt great. Webhost4life has fast/knowledgeable customer support, great service, and great up-time. And they even saved me money. You can't beat that! I love 'em.
I have been with WH4L for many years, but recently started moving everything away from them. They have officially jumped the shark. Chat is a joke: "Sorry for the unconvienenced, please check back later". Just horrible in many ways. The helpdesk isn't much better, though on rare occasions you get someone who knows what they're doing. It takes weeks to fix an actual problem. I had a site that ran perfectly for 5 years, but then suddenly without so much as a peep from WH4L, all their servers were upgraded which forced me to scramble to get my code updated. I would have gladly done the upgrade if there had been some notice.
They oversell the heck out of every server, web, sql, and then expect that the user won't recognize when there aren't enough resources to function properly for the workload they are dumping on the servers.
I would NOT recommend this service to anyone else, though in the past I have recommended them to my clients. They've seen a good bit of business because of these recommendations, and though I entered their referral program, never saw a dime for my effort.
Email the CEO? Bull. I actually did have the displeasure of receiving an email from the CEO when I first started having problems. His customer service stance is worse than the support staff. All I got were empty suggestions, and then blame for the performance of the site due to bad coding. That site is on another host now, and it runs beautifully.
Run to another host if you're currently using them. If you're lucky enough to have seen these posts before climbing into bed with them, DON'T!!!!
Customer service is absolutely horrendous. Chat live gives you an individual who 9 out of 10 times can't answer the question. This results in a trouble ticket to technical support who at best responds in half of a day. If you have a problem they need to resolve, with the many questions that they ask one at a time, the back and forth of emails can last up to a week befor your issue is resolved.
Recompiling time on Basic Service is a scam. Even a single user of such a site is not going to want to wait as long as it takes to have a screen appear after updating a WSS site.
Oh also, I sent a request as posted on the site both to escalate to manager and to CEO, CEO request led to a quick response that said someone would be in touch with me and alas, no one ever did contact me.
Going to cancel this service and hope for better luck with another provider, i would pay 5 times as much just to get compentent support and up time.
For several years I had a MS hosting account with this company. The service was ok, but nothing special. In December I added a Lunux account and have only had nightmares dealing with their tech support. They oversell the servers and cause constant outages. I've suffered through google delistings because of slow response times and outages. I will never use their company again and more over, would not even recommend my website competitors to use it. Well.. maybe my competition would be the only ones I would wish to use WEBHOST4LIFE. All the smart companies/people/domains should STAY FAR AWAY. They'll take your money, not provide service and waste your time with support. GO TO HELL WEBHOST4LIFE. You treat your customers like shit, you deserve to go out of business.
Have half a dozen sites hosted on webhost4life for over 8 years.
After trying other which gave poor to fair service, or none at all, webhost4life was a breath of fresh air.
They've never failed to help me with techical problems and now that they've added live-chat help it's even better.
The file manager system is easy to use. Would suggest anyone looking for a host give this one a try.
In the past few months, the reliability and performance of the server(s) hosting my site has been going down the toilet, so much so that some of my clients have gotten fed up and gone elsewhere. Planned outages are not communicated via the support forums or email broadcast. Technical support is slow in coming and consists of canned responses devoid of acknowledgment of an issue, explanation of system problem(s), or expected time of return-to-service. There are only so many times I'll accept "please try again later".
Stay away from WH4L if you care about reliability and support.
I've used WH4L for 6 years with up to 6 domains. They have set the bar for web hosts....and that bar is exceedingly high. I truly believe I can't find another host as good with the value added for as low a price.
Name it- they provide it. I've watched them grow and improve in all aspects of their business over the last 6 years. I've never waited more than a day to have a problem resolved...and there have been very few problems- unlike other hosts I've used. They certainly strive to maintain their promise of 99.9% uptime. They've even willingly, professionally, and efficiently helped me resolve problems that I was the cause of.
I had been using Webhost4life.com for 5 years for about the first 4 years I didn’t have any problems except for at the tech support level where you would state a problem and you would get a response from support that often was not relevant, misunderstood or a canned answer. It would normally take 3 or 4 efforts for webhost4life.com to understand and solve my problem. But I could live with that, however as my business grew the problems with them mounted.
One day without any notice they cut off my email service and wanted me to send a letter stating that I do not send spam. I told them I don’t send emails to anyone but my clients and those requesting information and that their own records should be able to show that I do not send mass mailings. After a couple of days with no email they had my mail service back up. This was an omen of bad things to come with Webhost4life.com.
Months later again with absolutely no notice webhost4life.com shut down my website because they said my site was using too much resource (that is another way of saying too many people are looking at your website). I immediately sent an email to the CEO stating that this was very unprofessional to close me down without any prior notice and that I needed to be back up immediately, because I am a small business and this would damage by business. Well the CEO never responded to my email or my next 2 emails to him. It’s incredible that they would state on their website “NOT satisfied with our service? Email our CEO” only to get more dissatisfaction from trying to contact the CEO.
And this was not just a one time incident that my emails to the CEO of webhost4life.com were ignored. A previous time I had sent the same email to him six times over about six weeks and forward the first email with the original sent date and ensuing dates reminding him each time that he had still not responded to my email and problem to see if this method would get a responses from him. But no the CEO simply does not want to get involved and never replied. Webhost4life.com commitment to customer service is a crock and it is hard to image a company treating their customers like this and still being in business. What kind of lead does this provide to their customer service personnel when the boss is not even customer service oriented? Well let me tell you.
My first response from tech support for their abrupt shutting down of my website after 2 hours was simply to state the exact same information that was emailed to me when they interrupted my service which is “your website is causing high system resource utilization”. This was their only response to an urgent ticket. They did not tell me what needed to be done or when I would be back up. Ten hours after sending them my urgent ticket and repeated emails to them I was told I had to move to a more dedicate server. Ok, no problem with this accept the link and method they gave me to pay did not work and it takes another 12 hours before I can pay them for the extra service since I had already had 6 plus months credit for the current service. They then tell me the migration will be done “ASAP” but they won’t give me any time estimate. No matter how hard I tried to get some time frame they just wouldn’t tell me. All Webhost4life.com repeatedly tells me is they are sorry for the “inconvenience” and I keep telling them this is more then just an inconvenience this is my livelihood, but that concept wasn’t registering with them.
After 4 days of lost business and me sending them many email, chat messages, and help tickets they final put me back up on my old server which I had been requesting many times for them to do until they are ready to move me to the new server. However back on the old server I am being inundated with server errors and service unavailable errors. I am now spending a lot of time responding to my own customers complaints about the difficulties they are having accessing my web pages, and unlike Webhost4life.com I respond back to every one of my clients. Twelve days after paying for the new service and server and receiving a message that my “payment is verified” I receive a notice, “Sorry for the late replies, for this case, I will forward this to our account department since there is some payment issue need to be settlement before activate the new account. Once again, sorry for your inconvenience.” Now at this point can anyone not believe you are dealing with a bunch of careless clowns running Webhost4life.com. You would think an accounting issue could be solved in one business day the only accounting discrepancy was that they had not given me credit for the past service I had paid or for the back days delayed in moving me to the new server but expecting a prompt response from Webhost4life.com is a far fetch dream.
Now during this debacle where my business is being severely disrupted the volume of emails I would normally get is drastically down. Even when we send emails within our own network to our own domains the emails are not going through. Many of our emails are not making it to the receiver. When I bring this up to Webhost4life.com they say, “We are working on the issue already. Please wait and check it later.” Yet 4 days later with untold amount of emails not reaching us and being permanently lost we hear nothing else from them. All told it was almost a month before we were running smoothly on the new server.
Now I will say this I was an idiot for not leaving Webhost4life.com after what they did because six months after moving to the new server they shut me down again without notice late at night for “running high IO constantly”. After many attempts to get some clarity of what is wrong they say I exceed my limit of 200 GB and to look at my stats. I did look and told them I used less then this last month and was running at a rate of less then 200 for this month so what are they talking about. But Webhost4life.com would not directly answer my questions they simply told me to purchase an upgrade. When I asked to talk to someone they gave me a phone number where I got a recording saying there will be about a 20 minute wait. At about the 20 minute mark the phone disconnected, three more phone attempts got the same results a long wait and then disconnected. When I paid them that night (my urgency was to get my site up quickly) I sent technical support the receipt with all the information showing my payment. In the morning I get an email saying they did not start the migration because I didn’t show paying. This is after sending them a copy of all the details of their receipt to me showing I had paid and webhost4life.com responding back to message with all the detail that I had paid. Incredible! It took 7 days before my ordering system was up and running because tech support would take anywhere from 6 to 24 hours to respond and this was after telling webhost4life that I was losing money due to their delays.
Webhost4life.com is completely unresponsive and uncommunicative to critical customer needs and ownership could care less about the problems they give you. Webhost4life.com is a disaster hosting company for a growing business oriented web site. It was with great relief that I left this arrogant company. Webhost4life.com will sabotage your business. Imagine having your web host shut you down 2 times without any notice because they want you to upgrade your service and then take their time with the migration so you are down for weeks.
Absolutely the worst technical support/customer service experience I have ever had. Almost nothing their tech support did worked the first time, most didn't work the 2nd time and some never worked at all. They advertise 24/7 tech support but if you have a server issue or frontpage issue or IIS issue or ASP.Net issue their immediate support can't do anything but create a ticket. Then someone else who can't actually solve the problem suggests all the obvious solutions and then dissapears for hours or days. Nothing about the setup of the databases or deployment of the website worked right the first time. I could not be more dissapointed with their service.
I have been with WebHost4Life for almost a year now, and I have been very impressed with the service, ESPECIALLY their customer service. I have not had many complaints, but when I had questions, I was able to resolve them quite quickly using their ticketing system. I also had a chance to use their live-chat option tonight, and spoke with Elainey, who was very patient and helpful. With all the options for hosting and domain services out on the web, my interest always rests on how good the customer service is. These guys have it!
I've hosted with Webhost4Life for several years and they have always been very reliable. I have considered switching to other companies in the past thinking I might get a better price, but a lower price with poor service or fewer features just isn't worth it, and after doing the research I elected to stay with Webhost4life, and I'm glad I did. Very recommended.
I was with another Website when I decided to try WebHost4life based on their 45 day moneyback guarantee. I found the quality of their Website far superior, their support was 24 hours on-line (which I appreciated lving in Australia) and the pricing much, much cheaper.
Most of all they really made an effort to resolve every issue including loading my database and solving an issue with my configuration file. Really expert service.
They seem very dedicated to supporting you and my Website (a large application) runs a lot faster.
I have been with them since 2004. It is hard to transfer websites and now I am in the process of moving all of my sites to another hosting provider because I can not handle this downtime and slow server. It is so ridiculous. When you call for support or email, they act like you are crazy. They never give you any real answers or eta and they are always having what they call "routing issues". I have not switched and have been with them for so long only because I don't want to go through the hassle of moving my sites. But they have backed me into a corner. DO NOT HOST WITH THEM.
If you search online for web hosting ratings, you will see some negative comments about webhost4life. But I can tell you that don\'\'t believe those ratings, try it yourself. YOu will see how good and flexible Webhost4life is! I have accounts with 4 Windows-based host companies, Webhost4Life is clearly the best. I am especially impressed by the flexiblity it allows for site managers. For example, you can easily upload a backup file and restore your SQL Server database without having to submitting a ticket and waiting, as I see with other compaines. Their FTP service and Web Stats tools are first-rate. Their customer support is very quick. They know what they do!
My experience with webhost4life is recent but that in no way minimizes the value of the folllowing comments.
I develop customized DNN sites for customers who want content control but generally don\'t have the technical expertise to implement their own sites. I do not offer dirt cheap do it yourself websites. I know my customers personally. In that light I need a hosting provider that I can depend on.
Over the years I have used three previous hosting providers. The last was for two years. This company provided a reasonably affordable product and adequate support. As my business grew it became necessary for me to consider dedicated hosting. That was too expensive so I was excited when my provider offered Virtual Private Servers (VPS). I jumped at the opportunity. That mistake jeapordized my client relationships. The performance was awful and the support was atagonistic.
I am sorry there may have been some confusion. The VPS is active until the 1st of December as it has been paid for until then.
Unfortunately we cannot pro-rate refund VPS servers as there is a very high overhead for us in setting them up and we do not charge setup fees for VPS servers.
I am very sorry that you feel this way but the service does perform normally but your VPS server was overloaded as explained to you and required additional upgrades or additional VPS servers to run efficiently with all the resources located on it.
Will you be keeping your account with us? I will check with management to see if we can however give some type of credit on that.
With that response I spent the weekend searching for a new hosting provider. Thank goodness I found webhost4life. I bought a shared hosting account and throughly tested the service and support of webhost4life. During the next week I purchased an Advanced VPS and moved all my clients. The performance, support and even control panel have been exceptional. The value for my dollar positions me to offer my clients unparalled service and support. If you are looking for a hosting resource that lives up to its advertising then webhost4life is my recommended choice. While this is my opinion, it is based upon my experience. Thanks webhost4life.
This company is completely unreliable. I stuck with them for almost 5 years before I realized that nothing would change and my site would continue to crash and burn. Shame on me for being so stupid. Really if you are looking for a good host go anywhere else.
This company caused my business to go bankrupt. Enough said? Totally unreliable, server crashed monthly and in the end what sunk us was they had no \"daily backup\" so lost all data and eventually my clients.
WebHost4Life is garbage. Do not even think of bringing an ASP.NET site to this company.
The limits imposed make this webhost NOT DNN Freindly, though they advertise they are a DNN host.
Limits include: 50MB Resource allocation and your app pool will recycle (this is insane, your application will get recompiled every time someone visits, causing load time upto 1-2 minutes).
Customer Service seems to be responsive, but are not knowledgable at all.
They don't have IIS setup properly, which causes horrible response times.
They have shared servers for database and web.
They put about 100+ websites per server and do not manage them properly.
They force recycle application pools every day at 11:30PM EST. This is prime time for the rest of america for my website.
I have alot more bad things to say, but it will get to long.
The GOOD: The ONLY thing, and I mean ONLY thing, I like about webhost4life is thier control panel. I do not care for HSphere which is why I went to webhost4life, but I'd rather deal with the lack of features in HSphere than a horrible webhost.
This company needs to go out of buisness so others aren't stuck in the predicament I am in.
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT host your site with this company.
I've hosted my site www.avalonbeadstore.com with Webhost4life for 5 months now and have had numerous occasions of long term downtime, especially during peak hours of the day when our business is booming. We've lost plenty of money due to this repeated downtime and after several attempts with their support to iron out the problem (which they said EVERY time was due to someone abusing server resources) we are at our wits end. It's a lot of work to research new hosting companies, select one with everything you need, and move your site, but at this point we are willing to do the work. After emailing the CEO very cordially but sternly about this problem, we have received no response but from support saying "Oh, the site is fine. It's up and running." WELL WHAT ABOUT THE HOURS OF DOWNTIME EVERY OTHER DAY?!! The point is these people really don't care whether your site is up or not. There's only so many "No response from server" errors you can get before you have to make a decision to change hosts. We're not looking forward to this.
Bottom line... Don't bother with Webhost4life. It's NOT a lifelong relationship.
I can't say that this is the worst host out there, simply because I haven't tried all of them. What I CAN say is that I have never dealt with any company even half as bad as this one. We hosted several critical websites with them for a period of about 2 months in early 2007. In that period, they completely crashed and erased all our sites twice. On both occasions, there was no response from customer support for several days. In desperation, we wrote to their CEO because they prominently display his email and encourage customers to write directly to him. We never got a response from him either. Here are the three emails we sent him:

I sent you the following message earlier today. Eversince then, your support people have not done anything about a hardware failure on your server that resulted in a total crash of all our websites. We have lost business and clients today. I would just like to know what you are going to do about all this. I am not even sure what is it you can do to make it up to us. We are in utter disbelief and we have no hope. After hours and hours, the server is still not up.

I sent you the following message a few days ago. There has been no response from you while your service quality has hit new lows. In fact, there is no service at all. Frequently, your control panel keeps logging us out as soon as we log in. Frequently, .NET applications crash and do not respond for hours. Please do something, or at least respond to this distress call.

Hope you're doing well. We opened an account with you about a month ago and have been deluged with problems ever since:
1. Everything on your service is an add-on that requires extra money. MS SQL is there but reporting services cost $60 a year. Once you pay for Reporting Services, they are there but you need to pay $10 for an extra user ID so that we don't have to give our master account credentials to our Reporting Services users. Multiple domains are there, but getting a separate folder for each domain costs $15/yr. We started with a $9.95/month plan but have already paid about $240 for the year (twice what we bargained for) and yet don't have what we need. All this sounds like nightmarish fiction, but it's all true. If we had known before signing up that we would be subjected to this, we would have done better.
2. Your control panel is tedious and prone to crashing - it frequently gives the "session expired" error within one minute of logging in. We are used to HELM and that thing is fast, reliable, and super-good-looking.
3. Your service is extremely slow. We have mirror sites on another host and everything runs 10 times faster there. Only reason we came to you is that our other host does not yet support MS SQL 2005 (they have only 2000).
4. Your support personnel respond in poor written English, sometimes impossible to understand what they mean.
I could go on, but this is enough for a start. I hope you have some good answers. Thank you.

We cancelled the service within 45 days, but they only refunded $150 out of the $240 or so they had charged for a full year. Their excuse was that some of the add-on charges were non-refundable. Readers can make their own conclusions based on these facts, and yet I feel compelled to add: Please don't ever sign up with this company. If you are already a customer, please find another host before you suffer beyond grief.
I've used these guys since one of my first development attempts in ASP, in 1999. I've run about ten different sites through them, most of them in development and preproduction. Over this time I have seen them get progressively worse in terms of their support of these sites and the performance. Finally last year I pulled some stats and I found that the server for one of my sites was dropping every third packet... no wonder the pages were hardly ever loading. Sure, they answer their support questions fast - but half the time it is complete and utter garbage. Everything is fine if you agree with them, but the minute you start questioning something they just keep repeating the same thing again and again... its like they argue with you by illogical conclusions.
Example: I requested a website restore for my forums as we had a problem with an upgrade of IPB, they kept asking for my credit card through their unsecure help area, I didn't want to and they didn't reply to any of my responses in the next 24 hours. Finally in desperation I restored the entire thing myself, and they had the cheek to charge me for the restoration (which never occured) without my permission. So I did a chargeback :)
If you are learning ASP and want somewhere to play around, then these guys give you that opportunity. But do NOT host anything here that you don't giving you awful performance. Also realise that most of what they tell you and have on their site is complete and utter rubbish, such as their uptime guarantee, their money back guarantee, and pretty much anything else you see.
Overall, despite the fact I have used these guys for eight years, I would not recommend them to anyone at all. Even if you have to pay a few more dollars, its nothing compared to the hidden costs you get charged.
Webhost4life is very deceptive. They seem to have a great price, but once you become a customer you soon realize that you are being nickel and dimed to death. Things that seem free and unlimited on the main page, you actually must pay for.
It seems like nothing is actually up and running on your account until you try to use it and submit a ticket, then it suddenly works and they claim nothing was wrong.
The customer support is actually very good no complaints there.
The thing that killed me was upon my 1 year renewal. They actually wanted to charge me a renewal fee of $10. That was it I was tired of paying extra for everything. There was no way I was paying a renewal fee. If anything they should be giving me a $10 discount for continuing my service.
They aren't bad, but there are far better hosts out there. Webhost4life is very deceptive. Beware of this one.
I have hosted numerous ASP.net websites here, with multiple SQL databases, it is a powerful user interface to manage your website and sql databases, it is cheap and reliable. The email service is also great and webmail interface is user friendly, anti-spam is pretty effective. No problems with these guys, they are great and I dont work for them! I am on another continent!
