Verdict :
AmHosting started out to be a decent hosting company several years ago. Recently, however, their reliability and service has been extremely poor. Because of the projected lost sales we suffered from the site being repeatedly down, we have changed hosting companies. I would not recommend this company to host a site, particularly one that includes ecommerce. There are many other more liable hosts. Don't use this one! Your ecommerce will suffer if you do.
This host was a relatively decent company with relatively decent support when we chose to use them 6 years ago. Since then, the original techs are no longer there. Now, the reliability and support is poor at best. We are stuck with them until we can find another host, which I have begun to do today. Do NOT use this hosting company.
I signed up with AMHosting about 6 years ago...and for the most part, they were fabulous. Their Helpdesk/customer service staff were amazing (in particular, a gentleman named Ryan Flowers helped me with a number of issues over the years and had unbelievably fast response times and perfect customer service skills).
Then, last year, the amount of down time my site experienced kept increasing (by no fault of my own, since each time I emailed the company, they advised that they had had some server or database issues), and then while they were porting my site from one server to another - they WIPED IT CLEAN.
When I asked them to restore it, they advised that their backup was corrupt.
That was it. Further emails to the company to help me out were ignored by the helpdesk staff, communication to the rest of the company was met with sheer ignorance and not a single person in the company actually apologized for what had happened. Not a single one of them.
Their only response was that it was my fault that the site went down because I didn't have my own backup.
After all this, I immediately switched to a different host even though I had a few months of paid hosting left...and once that expired, they had the nerve to invoice me to renew my 12 month contract with them.
I would advise that ANYONE even contemplating getting hosting with this company immediately reconsider and find a different company to host with - it is blatantly obvious that this company no longer gives a hoot about its customers and fails to take responsibility for their own mistakes, instead doing whatever they can to shift their errors onto the customer who reported them.
Out of the 10 or so web hosting companies I have had over the past 10 years, AM Hosting is the one I'm currently with, the one I've kept the longest and the one I've been happiest with. Their support is quick and professional. Their reliability is excellent. Pricing is very competitive. Recommended highly.
I have a virtual site account and 4 dedicated servers with amhosting.com. Their service and prices are excellent. I knew absolutely nothing about managing my own web server before we moved from managed accounts with other hosting companies. There was a lot of hand-holding in the beginning and panicked phone calls. But they helped me keep my site up, in spite of me. I really appreciate all the help from these guys. Nice to know, when there is an issue, you can get a response be email quickly or have a live human pick up the phone.
If you're looking for a better host or wanting to find a company to start a relationship with, the guys at amhosting.com will take care of you.
I have used Amhosting for personal and business sites for over 5 years. I appreciate being able to email people I know year in and year out and get prompt responses. They are also very good at working with you on issues like hosting email on your corporate server and your website remotely on their servers. They are great for new users and experienced users alike. I knew nothing when I started and they worked with me diligently. Now I rarely need them, but whenever something comes up, they are there with a quick answer.
Amhosting is very reliable, and as Matt said, they have great customer support. They've recently revised their hosting plans as well, so you get more space, bandwidth, and options for less than before. You still pay a good $100+ a year, but their support and reliability (they are rarely, if ever, down) are definitely worth it. I recommend them whole heartedly!
I would suggest this site to any new person seeking to have a website. They provide great customer support; they tend to respond within thirty minutes to any email. They are based in Reno, Nevada and are not resellers.
